Abstract

Hypertension, a leading cause of early death worldwide, affects 1.94% of the population in Gorontalo Regency, according to the local Health Department. However, limited studies have examined the relationship between hypertension prevalence and dietary patterns among mountain and coastal communities in this region. The purpose of this study was to explore differences in blood pressure and consumption patterns between people living in mountain areas and coastal areas in Gorontalo District. This research employed an analytic observational design with a cross-sectional approach. The study included 126 participants living in mountain and coastal areas of Gorontalo District, selected using a cluster random sampling technique. Data were collected using a 24-hour food recall questionnaire and a tension meter. The data were analyzed using the chi-square test. The findings revealed no significant differences in systolic blood pressure (p = 0.359, p > 0.05), diastolic blood pressure (p = 0.160, p > 0.05), or sodium consumption patterns (p = 0.324, p > 0.05) between residents of mountainous and coastal areas. However, significant differences were found in fat consumption patterns (p = 0.000, p < 0.05) and carbohydrate consumption patterns (p = 0.004, p < 0.05) between the two groups. It is recommended that residents regularly monitor their blood pressure to detect potential increases and reduce excessive salt consumption.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low reading comprehension ability of students at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Al-Muhajirien Jakapermai, which is caused by less effective conventional learning methods. The purpose of this study is to improve the reading comprehension ability of grade V students through the application of the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) model. The method used in this study is classroom action research (PTK) which is carried out in three cycles, where each cycle consists of planning, action, observation, and reflection. Data was collected through observation, student worksheets (LKS), and reading comprehension tests. The results show that the application of the CIRC model significantly improves students' reading comprehension skills. In the first cycle, the average score of students' reading comprehension was 67.27, with 70% of students achieving a score above the Minimum Completeness Criteria (KKM). In the second cycle, the average score increased to 77.76, with 80% of students achieving scores above the KKM. In the third cycle, the average score reached 83.2, and 90% of students successfully met the KKM. In addition, observations showed increased student engagement and motivation during the learning process, where students were more active in participating in group discussions and reading activities, as well as showing higher self-confidence. The conclusion of this study is that the CIRC model has proven to be effective in improving students' reading comprehension skills. The application of this model not only improves learning outcomes, but also encourages activeness, collaboration, and communication between students. Students show a greater interest in reading and are better able to understand the reading material. Therefore, it is recommended that teachers apply the CIRC model as an alternative in learning to read in the classroom, in order to improve the quality of education and overall student learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the representation of gender equality and justice in the narrative of the Covid-19 pandemic that is developing on social media. Many narratives have developed on social media related to gender that represent various things of gender equality and justice. The data in this study is in the form of narratives that develop and spread on various social media. The social media that is the focus of this study is WhatsApp and Facebook. Data analysis used a qualitative approach, utilizing representation, gender, and linguistic theories. Based on the analysis that has been carried out, it is concluded that in the narrative about COVID-19, female greetings such as mbak (sister), nyonya (madam), and tante (aunt) are often used. However, in some narratives, the greetings mas (brother) and pakdhe are also used. In addition, it was also found that the use of interjection showed annoyance and sarcasm, such as the Corona and the virus. The diversity of greeting choices does not fully reflect the gender of the post-writer. The use of greetings in the narrative also represents the existence of images that gender influences the choice of language and the direction of the narrative on positive and negative images. Based on the findings above, this study enriches our perspective on the pattern of narrative formation in discourse analysis studies. The findings also enrich the repertoire in representation theory related to the selection of diction that represents gender equality and justice.

Abstract

Background: Exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) faces significant barriers, particularly in the first 7 days postpartum, primarily due to a lack of knowledge and skills about lactation among mothers and their partners. Couple classes have been proposed as a potential solution, as they provide lactation education to both mothers and their partners from pregnancy onward. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of couple classes in enhancing breastfeeding rates and preventing breast milk stagnation during the early postpartum period. Methods: A quasi-experimental design with a posttest control group was used, targeting third-trimester pregnant women. The sample consisted of pregnant women who met the inclusion criteria, along with their husbands, who lived together and consented to participate. Exclusion criteria included husbands who worked out of town, those who did not attend all sessions, and those who experienced emergencies during pregnancy, childbirth, or postpartum. A total of 25 participants were assigned to each group through simple random sampling. The intervention group received couple class education, which was delivered online via WhatsApp Groups, along with direct assistance within the first 7 days postpartum. This support lasted for one month. The control group received standard care according to the PMB’s (Praktik Mandiri Bidan or Independent Midwife Practices) SOP (Standard operational procedure). Posttests were conducted on the seventh day postpartum. Breastfeeding rates and the occurrence of breast milk engorgement were assessed using a checklist. Statistical analysis was performed using the chi-square test to compare differences between the groups. Results: A significant difference in breastfeeding rates during the first 7 days was observed between the two groups (p = 0.034). Additionally, there was a significant difference in the prevention of breast milk engorgement (p = 0.017). Conclusions: Couple classes effectively increase breastfeeding rates and prevent breast engorgement, with online materials providing an efficient and impactful method of support.
