Abstract

One effective strategy for preventing sexually transmitted infection (STI) incidence and providing protection for female sex workers (FSWs) from their sexual partners is correct and consistent condom use behavior. This study examined the effect of condom use on STI among FSWs in Tulungagung District, East Java. This analytic and observational study using a cohort prospective design was conducted at Ngujang ex- prostitution area and Gunung Bolo prostitution area, Tulungagung District, from November to January 2017. The total sample selected was 90 FSWs. Data was collected through a set of questionnaires and tracking condom use in a diary. Data were analyzed by using Pearson’s chi-square, t-test and logistic regression models at a significance of 0.05. Bivariate analysis with chi-square test showed that STI was affected by period of condom use, ratio of number of condom used to number of times the FSW had sex, condom use, age, number of customers, skill in using condoms, tarifts for sexual services, and length of working as an FSW. Results of multivariate logistic regression showed an influence in ratio of condom use to having sex, number of condoms, and number of customers. In conclusion, the incidence of STI is influenced by the ratio of condom use to having sex, number of condoms used, and number of customers in Tulungagung District.

Abstract

Background: Oral health is a reflection of general health. Children with disabilities are more prone to problems such as dental caries and periodontal disease compared to children in general due to various factors. Indonesia has 3.3% of children with disabilities aged 5 to 17 years old. Families, especially mothers, play a crucial role in maintaining the dental health of children with disabilities because they are responsible for meeting basic needs and oral hygiene. The Health Belief Model theory can be used to understand parental behavior related to the health of children's oral cavity. This study aims to examine the influence of factors in HBM theory on the oral health of children with special needs. Subjects and Method: This study uses a cross-sectional method conducted at Sukoharjo and B-C YPPALB Langenharjo schools for special needs children, Central Java, Indonesia. A total of 200 parents or guardians of children with disabilities were obtained by random sampling. The bound variable was in the form of oral health behavior while the independent variable was in the form of vulnerability perception, severity perception, benefit perception, obstacle perception, stimulus to act, and self-efficacy. The results of the study were analyzed using multiple linear regression. Results: Oral Health Behavior increases with increased perception of vulnerability (b= 0.11; 95% CI= 0.11 to 0.21; p= 0.030), perception of severity (b= 0.16; 95% CI= 0.17 to 0.30; p= 0.028), perception of benefit (b= 0.12; 95% CI= 0.16 to 0.22; p= 0.024), stimulus to act (b= 0.18; 95% CI= 0.11 to 0.35; p= 0.037), and self-efficacy (b= 0.18; 95% CI= 0.11 to 0.26; p=0.000) and decreases with increasing perception of barriers (b= -0.15; 95% CI= -0.20 to - 0.11; p=<0.000). Conclusion: Perception of vulnerability, perception of severity, perception of benefit, stimulus to act and self-efficacy increase oral health behavior and perception of obstacles decreases oral health behavior.

Abstract

A child is considered stunted if it has delayed growth and development during the first thousand days of life (1000 HPK). This period begins with pregnancy and continues throughout the first two years of life. This condition causes chronic malnutrition. Some main causes of stunting is the lack of mother’s knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors regarding child health and nutrition. Providing educational media, such as video and booklet, containing clear and comprehensive information about nutrition for pregnant mothers can be implemented to improve the limitations in maternal knowledge and understanding. This study aimed to examine the influence of nutritional education media, through videos and booklets, on the knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors of pregnant women in preventing stunting. This study used Research and Development (R&D) method with ADDIE approach. The total population was 1,992 pregnant women in Subulussalam city. Subjects were 44 pregnant women according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria with non-nonprobability sampling technique with purposive sampling type.. The knowledge, attitudes, and behavior data of the pregnant mothers were gathered by conducting pre-test and post-test using questionnaire. The results showed there  was a significant effect of the video and booklet on the pregnant mothers’s knowledge in preventing stunting, with a p-value=0.009. There was also a significant effect on the attitudes with p-value=0.006. While the behaviors have p-value=0.017 and showed significant effect as well. It could be concluded that the educational video and booklet of nutrition for pregnant mothers are feasible and can be used as educational media for preventing stunting.

Abstract

Background: Patient safety is a critical priority in healthcare, aiming to prevent harm and ensure optimal care delivery. Despite the inherent risks in health services, the 'to err is human' paradigm suggests that errors often stem from systemic issues rather than individual failings. Effective patient safety relies heavily on improved system design and the education of healthcare professionals with a focus on safety readiness. Integrating patient safety education into interprofessional education (IPE) frameworks is essential for fostering effective communication and teamwork, which are crucial for reducing structural system errors and enhancing care quality.Aims: To map the research landscape on patient safety and IPE, examining trends, countries, and thematic relationships within the field specifically focusing on how IPE addresses structural system errors in patient safetyMethods: This study conducts a bibliometric analysis using VOS viewer software, the analysis covers publications from January 2000 to July 2024, focusing on data from SCOPUS.Results: Results reveal a growing body of research on patient safety with IPE, highlighting notable simulation-based training and interprofessional collaboration trends. The analysis demonstrates an evolution from individual-focused approaches to system-based interventions. However, there is a clear need for more systematic and culturally nuanced studies, particularly in Southeast Asia, where research is limited. Conclusion: The findings underscore the importance of incorporating patient safety principles within IPE curricula and highlight research gaps, especially in contexts such as Indonesia and other Southeast Asian countries. Future research should address these gaps, explore the impact of IPE on structural system errors across diverse settings, and foster international collaboration to standardize and enhance educational practices in healthcare.
