Abstract

Guidance and counseling (GC) services occupy a strategic role in supporting students’ academic development, personal–social growth, and career readiness; however, the effectiveness of their implementation in secondary schools still requires systematic evaluation to ensure they meet the demands of modern education. We directed this study to evaluate the GC service program at SMA Negeri 1 Sekadau using the Context, Input, Process, and Product (CIPP) model as a basis for continuous improvement. This research employs a qualitative evaluative approach, weaving together in-depth interviews, field observations, and document analysis to capture the authentic perspectives of school administrators, practitioners, and students. By situating our investigation within the real-world dynamics of the school ecosystem, we aimed to uncover the tensions between policy ideals and operational realities. Our investigation reveals a compelling narrative of a program caught between normative aspirations and operational constraints. We found that while the GC program is formally aligned with national educational policies and the Merdeka Curriculum, its context remains largely reactive, relying on incident reports rather than systematic diagnostic needs assessments. Furthermore, although the school benefits from professionally qualified personnel, they are significantly hindered by structural deficits, specifically a lack of validated service instruments and facility support. The implementation process follows a routine schedule yet is often characterized by administrative informality, lacking the rigorous documentation and collaborative mechanisms necessary for truly reflective practice. Finally, while the services produce initial positive personal-social impacts on students, these outcomes remain largely anecdotal, unmeasured, and unevenly distributed across the student body.

Abstract

Academic writing in higher education requires students to demonstrate critical and reflective thinking skills. However, writing instruction rarely provides a systematic model that integrates metacognitive reflection into the writing process. This gap causes students to experience difficulties in linking self-reflection with the development of academic argumentation. This study aims to develop and examine the effectiveness of a meta-reflective writing model that integrates self-assessment and inquiry-based learning to enhance students’ critical thinking skills. The study employed a research and development (R&D) approach encompassing a preliminary study, model design, expert validation, limited trials, and effectiveness testing. The participants consisted of two expert validators and 20 students enrolled in a language education program. Validation results indicated that the model was highly feasible, with a mean score of 4.47. Findings from the limited trials demonstrated improvements in the quality of students’ written argumentation. Effectiveness testing using a one-group pretest–posttest design revealed a statistically significant increase in critical thinking scores from 22.1 to 44.4 (p < 0.001).These findings confirm that the meta-reflective writing model is effective, practical, and relevant as a pedagogical approach for strengthening critical thinking in academic writing, although further refinement of indicators at the pre-writing stage is still required.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the principal’s coaching strategy in developing teachers’ pedagogical competence at SMA Negeri 3 Sanggau, to identify supporting and inhibiting factors, and to analyze its impact on teaching and learning. The research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. Informants involved included the principal, vice principal for curriculum, six teachers, and two students. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, and analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that the coaching strategy was implemented through the stages of pre-supervision, observation, and post-supervision, emphasizing reflection, collaborative dialogue, and constructive feedback. Supporting factors included the principal’s supportive leadership, an open school culture, and educational policy support. The main obstacles were teacher resistance, limited time, and lack of understanding of the coaching concept. The impact of coaching was evident in the improvement of teachers’ pedagogical competence, particularly in understanding learning concepts, designing interactive learning, and conducting reflective evaluation. This study highlights the importance of the principal’s role as a coach in academic supervision to create effective and sustainable learning.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of principal leadership and family–teacher synergy on the prosocial behavior of elementary school students at SD Negeri 05 Pontianak Selatan. A quantitative survey approach was employed, with data collected from 88 students in Grades IV, V, and VI using validated questionnaires. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential analysis, including percentage analysis to categorize variables and regression analysis to examine the relationships among variables. The results indicate that students’ prosocial behavior was generally at a positive level, with most students categorized as high, although variations were observed across dimensions. Helping and sharing showed the highest levels, while empathy and environmental care still require improvement. Principal leadership demonstrated strong effectiveness, particularly in community empowerment and instructional leadership. Similarly, family–teacher synergy showed high effectiveness, especially in learning support and character-building collaboration, although communication and value consistency remain areas for improvement. The findings suggest that concrete prosocial behaviors are more easily developed through habituation, whereas more complex behaviors require structured and continuous interventions. In conclusion, this study highlights the importance of strengthening transformational leadership and enhancing collaboration between schools and families to create a supportive educational ecosystem. It also underscores the need for differentiated character education programs and more intensive communication strategies to optimize students’ prosocial development.
