Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is an endemic disease. It has become a public health concern. Mosquito control activities are needed to control vectors and prevent DHF. Therefore, we conduct a literature review of mosquito control activities associated with DHF in Indonesia. This study applies the selected articles using PRISMA (Preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses), and they are sourced from Science Direct, Google Scholar, Scopus, ProQuest, Ebscohost, and Portal Garuda. The criteria for the selected articles are full-text articles, published in 2015-2020, and those which are published in national journals SINTA 2 or international journals. This study reviewed 683 articles, out of which were selected for further examination. The key variables, such as draining water containers, covering water containers, burying and recycling used containers, using mosquito repellent, using larvacide , keeping larva-eating fish, having mosquito repellent plants, installing wire mesh on ventilation, showed significant correlation with Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) incidence. Among the selected articles, 38.89% employed cross-sectional design, and the rest belonged to case-control studies. Most articles have variable draining water containers (55.56%), 50% covers water containers, 80% have a significant association between draining water containers and DHF incidence, and 66.67% have a significant association between covering water containers and DHF incidence. Most articles show that not implementing PSN (Pemberantasan sarang nyamuk) or PSN 3M (Pemberantasan sarang nyamuk, menguras, menutup, mengubur plus) is associated with the incidence of DHF and is a risk factor for the occurrence of DHF. On the other hand, the implementation of PSN or PSN 3M Plus will be a protective factor.

Abstract

Introduction: Children with disabilities require special attention due to various limitations, such as difficulty in maintaining oral hygiene, communication barriers, and behavioral challenges. This study aimed to investigate the impact of oral health on the quality of life of children with disabilities in Jember, using the Healthy-Dis software. Methods: This analytical observational study employed a cross-sectional design. The study population consisted of 180 students enrolled at SLB C TPA Jember and SLB N 1 Patrang Jember. Caries severity was assessed using the DMF-t/def-t index, oral hygiene using the OHI-S index, and oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) using the COHIP-SF 19 questionnaire. Dental care needs were evaluated using the Required Treatment Index (RTI). The COHIP-SF 19 and RTI instruments were modified and integrated into the Android-based Healthy-Dis application. Results: A significant correlation was found between gender, caries severity, oral hygiene status, and the quality of life of children with disabilities (p < 0.05). A strong positive correlation was observed between oral hygiene status and quality of life (r = 0.446), while caries severity and gender showed negative correlations. These findings highlight the importance of maintaining good oral hygiene to improve the overall well-being of children with disabilities. Conclusion: Oral health status—including caries severity and oral hygiene level—is significantly associated with the quality of life of children with disabilities. Efforts to promote better oral hygiene may enhance their daily functioning and overall well-being.

Abstract

Synthetic pesticide exposure remains a significant environmental health concern in Semarang Regency, particularly among farmers who rely heavily on chemical inputs. Although some farmers in Ketapang Village have begun adopting organic practices, their understanding of healthy farming and pesticide-related risks is still limited. This study aimed to strengthen the capacity of the Al Barokah Farmer Group through education and training on healthy farming practices, health risk mitigation related to chemical pesticides, and basic concepts of GMOs. The intervention included presentations, discussions, learning modules, and Focus Group Discussions to explore participants’ perspectives. Effectiveness was evaluated by comparing pre-test and post-test scores and analyzing changes across question components. Results showed an increase in average knowledge scores from 67.64 to 77.92. Eleven of Eightteen items (61.11%) demonstrated improved correct responses, particularly on pesticide use, local microorganisms (MOL), and liquid organic fertilizer (POC). Statistical testing yielded a p-value of 0.011, indicating a significant improvement in participants’ knowledge. These findings highlight the effectiveness of structured education in enhancing farmers’ understanding and support the adoption of safer and more sustainable agricultural practices. The results also identify key topics requiring further emphasis in future training programs.

Abstract

Introduction: The rising global production of municipal solid waste (MSW) poses significant ecological challenges. In developing countries, inadequate landfill management results in the uncontrolled release of hazardous gases and leachate, posing significant risks to human health. This systematic review investigated the association between environmental factors at these landfills and adverse human health outcomes. Methods: This review was conducted in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines. A comprehensive search was rapidly conducted across ScienceDirect, Scopus, PubMed, and EBSCOhost for articles published between 2020 and 2025. PECO criteria screening was conducted independently by two reviewers, resulting in the selection of 25 articles for critical synthesis. Results: Hazardous landfill pollutants—including heavy metals, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and particulate matter—are rapidly escalating severe health issues. Residents and landfill workers face acute respiratory and cardiovascular disorders, heightened cancer risk, reproductive issues, and neurological impairments. Leachate contamination of soil and groundwater compounds these urgent systemic risks. Conclusion:The ongoing failure to manage landfills effectively, particularly in developing countries, has triggered a pressing environmental and public health crisis. Immediate action to improve waste management and enforce stricter environmental policies is critical for preventing further harm.

Abstract

Anemia is a condition in which the level of hemoglobin (Hb) in the body is below normal, caused by a lack of intake of the iron and protein the body needs. Anemia in young women can reduce the immune system's ability and learning achievement. The World Health Organization (WHO) states that the prevalence of anemia among adolescent girls worldwide ranges from 40% to 88%, and the prevalence of anemia in developing countries reaches around 57.3%. Meanwhile, in Indonesia, according to the 2018 Indonesian Basic Health Research, the prevalence of anemia among adolescents is 32%. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of adding sorghum flour and soybean flour on levels of iron, protein and the acceptability of cookies as an alternative snack to prevent anemia in young women. This type of research is a quasi-experimental research design with a Posttest Only Control Group Design. Tests for iron and protein levels were carried out at the Food Analysis Laboratory of the Jember State Polytechnic while the power tests were carried out on 28 grade 8 students at SMPN 1 Kalisat Jember. This research was conducted from February to April The results showed that as the proportion of added soy flour increased and the proportion of sorghum flour decreased, the average iron and protein levels increased. The highest mean values for iron and protein were found in treatment X3 with iron levels of 4.79 mg and protein levels of 14.89 g. The most preferred taste acceptance is in treatment X1 and X2 by 50% with a very favorable rating (SS). In conclusion, the addition of sorghum flour and soybean flour to cookies had a significant effect on the levels of iron and protein in cookies but did not have a significant difference on the acceptance of taste, color and texture of cookies.
