Abstract

Catfish (Clarias gariepinus) is a type of fish that is widely cultivated in Indonesia. People in Lampung Province really like catfish with a consumption level of 17.10% of total household fish consumption. Catfish have a high water content so they are easily damaged. One way to preserve is smoking. The smoking process uses fuel to produce smoke and uses a drum type smoker. This research aims to determine the type of fumigation fuel that is effective for carrying out fumigation according to SNI quality. The parameters observed were water content, yield, amount of fuel used, and organoplastic tests (appearance, aroma, taste and texture). Then the data was analyzed using Microsoft Excel and continued with the BNT test. The results showed that A3 treatment with a mixture of charcoal and coconut fiber produced the best quality smoked catfish with a water content of 40.54%, with a sensory value of appearance of 8.3, smell of 8.7, taste of 8.7 and texture of 8.5. and the amount of fuel used was 6.03 kg. Keywords: Catfish, Coconut Fiber, Smoked, Wood Charcoal.

Abstract

The poultry industry in Indonesia is growing rapidly, but still relies heavily on the supply of seeds and feed raw materials from abroad. The abundant meat production leaves innards or chicken carcasses in large quantities.  The use of chicken innards into animal feed is one of the fulfillments of the supply of animal feed availability because it contains enough protein.  Because the period of decomposition of meat occurs quickly, so to overcome this, it is necessary to dry the dried innards in order to stay durable.  This study aims to determine the characteristic value and water content of the equilibrium drying of chicken innards thin-layer as well as observe the color changes of chicken innards.  The study was conducted by an experimental method with two treatments, namely drying temperature and innards type.  The analyses carried out are water content, equilibrium water content (Me), drying constant (k), protein, and color. From the results of the study, it was found that the type of innards (gizzard, liver, and intestine) affects the drying time, final water content, protein, and color but does not affect the equilibrium water content (Me), and the drying constant.  While the drying temperature used affects all observed parameters.  High temperatures (90°C) produce brighter colors because the drying process is shorter. Keywords: Chicken innards, Color, Layer Drying, Thin Protein.

Abstract

Sea turtles are one of the species essential for maintaining the balance of marine ecosystems, yet their populations have declined due to hunting, habitat destruction, and climate change. Sea turtle conservation is a crucial step in ensuring the sustainability of this species. This article discusses a community service activity involving the release of hatchlings as part of sea turtle conservation efforts at Maitara Village Tourism Beach, Tidore Islands City. The activity began with coordination among the village government, community leaders, and youth groups to plan and strategize implementation, involving all elements of the community. The release of hatchlings engaged students, tourists, and local residents, aiming to raise awareness and participation in sea turtle conservation. This activity not only provided hatchlings the opportunity to return to their natural habitat but also served as an educational platform to enhance public understanding of the importance of protecting sea turtles. Through a community-based approach, the program successfully strengthened collective commitment to coastal ecosystem conservation and opened opportunities for further development in support of natural resource conservation. The results of this activity demonstrate that collaboration among the community, academics, and government can have a significant positive impact on sea turtle conservation efforts.

Abstract

Wisaksono, M. A., Tamrin, T., Pratama, F. (2024). The utilization of fiber tissue as an electrolyte absorbent of Dye Sensitized Solar Cell. In: Herlinda S et al. (Eds.), Prosiding Seminar Nasional Lahan Suboptimal ke-12 Tahun 2024, Palembang 21 Oktober 2024. (pp. 634–648). Palembang: Penerbit & Percetakan Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI).Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells represent a set of photoelectrochemical solar cells capable of converting light energy into electrical energy by harnessing plant-derived dyes as light sensitizer. One of the factors influencing the performance of a DSSC is the electrolyte. The addition of a fiber tissue layer to DSSCs can reduce evaporation in the electrolyte solution. The fiber tissue layers used in this study were derived from facial tissue. The objective of this research is to study and understand the impact of varying thicknesses of fiber tissue layers as electrolyte absorption media on the performance of Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells. This research was conducted from September 2023 to December 2023 at the Energy and Electrification Laboratory, Department of Agricultural Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sriwijaya. The study comprised of three stages: DSSC structure preparation, assembly and arrangement of DSSC layers, and DSSC measurements. The thickness variations of the fiber tissue layers used were two layers (0,027 cm), three layers (0,041 cm), four layers (0,054 cm), five layers (0,068 cm), six layers (0,081 cm), and a control without fiber tissue layer applied to water hyacinth leaf dye and senduduk fruit dye. Parameters observed in this study included current and voltage characteristics, power calculations, fill factor, and DSSC efficiency. The results indicated that DSSCs with an additional fiber tissue layer exhibited relatively better performance compared to DSSCs without the additional fiber tissue layer, both in the senduduk fruit dye and water hyacinth dye.. The DSSC performance was most prominent in the senduduk fruit dye sample with a four-layer (0.054 cm) thickness of fiber tissue layer. The electrical characteristics produced by this sample were Isc:  0,016 mA, Voc:  0,682 mV, Imax:  0,011 mA, Vmax:  0,397 mV, Pmax:  0,00417 mW, FF:  0,37924, and an efficiency of 0,016%.
