Abstract

One alternative in reducing accidents at railroad crossings without guards is automatic pneumatic railroad crossings. This tool uses PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) as a processing system. Automatic crossing railroad crossing works by using two proximity sensors that are placed on the right and left crossings with a distance far from the crossing (approximately 1 KM). The system outputs are pneumatically actuated sirens, lights and door lintels. At most this door will move up and down closing and opening the crossing. The use of pneumatics in manufacturing because pneumatics saves more space around the crossing and is safe. In testing, detection is done in 2 opposite directions. The results show the tool has been working to close and open crossings with good performance.

Abstract

Augmented reality application-based learning is one form of education reforms that is used to improve various skills that are needed. One of them is creative thinking skills to face the challenges of the 21st century or the challenges of the industrial revolution 4.0 today. Therefore, the researcher conducts a study entitled the use of augmented reality application to improve the understanding of plant life cycle and creative thinking skills. This study aims to analyze the effects of the use of augmented reality application based on the improved understanding of students about the plant life cycle and creative thinking skills. This study uses the method of quasi-experimental design. The used study design is non-eqivalent control group pretest-postest design. The samples in this study are grade X students of SMA 2 Lembang consisting of 30 students determined by purposive sampling technique. The results of this study show that there are significant differences in the understanding of the concept and creative thinking skills of the students, although the creative thinking skills in both classes are still in the poor category., it is due to the application media of augmented reality application is only used as a medium of learning without including the making process of it so students are not accustomed when they are faced with questions in the form of problem. The test of two averages on the value of concept understanding shows the figure of (2-tailed t = 0 and 0,001) α (0.05) which means that augmented reality application-based learning has an influence on students 'mastery of concept concepts, but does not affect the ability of participants' creative thinking skills students.

Abstract

Most of the study on conceptual change was analysed using multiple-choice, true/false and true/false-reason type of questions. However, these questions are unable to reveal the variation in understanding of the university students. In this study, we developed a new conceptual change assessment based on essay questions. Here, student responses on DNA and intron term are presented as case studies in order to show the application of this assessment. The assessment is able to classify the various degree of understanding in university students such as construction, revision, complementation, static and disorientation. Our findings in university students studying DNA term showed that of 70 university students, 34% (construction), 36% (revision), 21% (complementation), 4% (static) and 5% (disorientation). On intron term finds construction (4%), revision (14%), static (44%) and disorientation (38%). Overall analysis using various categories of understanding reveals that DNA term is easier to understand by the university students than the intron term. This assessment is useful to evaluate the conceptual change level of university students in the class. Therefore, the assessment might also be useful to evaluate various teaching strategies and other topics. Keywords: conceptual change, essay, assessment, DNA, Intron
