Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of learning technology at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Muhammadiyah Karangwaru Plupuh Sragen, identify enabling and constraining factors, and interpret its impact on student engagement. A qualitative case study with a descriptive approach was employed. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with three key informants—Umi Khasanah (principal), Zuli Nurdayati (class teacher), and Sitisamlatun (class teacher)—supported by classroom observations and document review (lesson plans, digital media artifacts, and assessment evidence). Data analysis followed thematic coding, data reduction and display, and conclusion drawing with source and technique triangulation to enhance trustworthiness. The main findings indicate that technology was integrated in three domains: planning (using digital resources to design learning materials), implementation (audiovisual media, interactive quizzes, and learning communication through messaging applications), and assessment (simple platform-based formative tests and digital portfolio documentation). Most practices remain at substitution–augmentation levels, yet initial movement toward modification is evident when teachers redesign learning flows into collaborative and project-based micro-tasks. Enablers include the principal’s instructional leadership, peer-sharing culture, and parent partnership; major barriers involve limited devices, unstable internet connectivity, and varied teacher digital literacy.

Abstract

The gap between the rapid demands of digital transformation in education, which include the adoption of ICT-based learning, LMS, and the integration of Coding and Artificial Intelligence materials, and the reality of implementation challenges in the field. These crucial challenges include the availability and distribution of inadequate supporting facilities and infrastructure at all levels of education according to national standards, as well as the urgent need to improve teachers' digital competence and literacy so they can adapt and teach innovatively in the era of the Industrial Revolution 4.0. This study uses a qualitative approach as the basic methodological framework because this approach is considered the most relevant for understanding in-depth the phenomenon of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) implementation in the context of learning in schools. The data collection technique used is interviews, because this technique is considered the most effective for gathering in-depth information regarding teachers' experiences, views, and practices in implementing ICT in learning. The results of the study indicate that the systematic application of ICT and supported by continuous training can improve teachers' understanding, technical skills, and positive attitudes towards digital technology. This transformation also has an impact on the creation of a collaborative and adaptive learning culture in the classroom. This article recommends the importance of institutional policies that support the digital ecosystem so that teachers' digital literacy continues to develop in line with the demands of the technological era. The contribution of this research is expected to provide a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities of digital classroom transformation at the junior high school level, while also producing strategic recommendations based on empirical evidence for policymakers and education practitioners so that digital transformation can improve the quality of learning sustainably.

Abstract

Digital transformation in elementary education necessitates innovative pedagogical approaches that align with digital-native learners' characteristics, yet traditional instructional models persist despite demonstrating limited effectiveness in fostering student motivation and engagement. This study examined gamification implementation in elementary learning contexts to: (1) analyze implementation patterns, (2) evaluate effectiveness in improving learning outcomes, and (3) formulate adaptive sustainability strategies. Employing a qualitative case study design, data were collected from Muhammadiyah Plus Elementary School, Semarang, through semi-structured interviews with eleven participants (principal, six teachers, four students), systematic classroom observations across twelve sessions, and comprehensive document analysis. Data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman's interactive model with triangulation validation. Gamification integration significantly enhanced student engagement (87% active participation versus 52% in non-gamified contexts) and academic achievement, with particularly pronounced gains among lower-achieving students (+13.2%). Analysis revealed that point systems, badges, challenges, and immediate feedback satisfied psychological needs of competence, autonomy, and relatedness as theorized in Self-Determination Theory. Unexpectedly, competitive leaderboards fostered collaborative peer tutoring rather than individualistic behaviors. Sustainability mechanisms included ongoing professional development, adaptive implementation flexibility, Learning Management System integration, and continuous evaluation. Gamification constitutes an effective elementary education innovation when embedded within supportive institutional ecosystems, addressing pedagogical dissonance between traditional methods and digital-native learner characteristics while requiring comprehensive teacher preparation and context-responsive adaptation.

Abstract

This study develops a Google Classroom–based learning management system (LMS) for Relations and Functions in junior high school and examines its feasibility. The study used an R&D approach with the ADDIE model involving eighth-grade students and a mathematics teacher at SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Surakarta. Data were collected through observation, interviews, expert validation, and user-response questionnaires, and analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The results show high validity (material expert 93%; media expert 87%) and high feasibility (students 91%; teacher 97%). The novelty lies in a complete and structured LMS learning flow for Relations and Functions, integrating mapped topics, tiered activities, quizzes, discussions, and assignments supported by tools such as Quizizz, YouTube, GeoGebra, and Google Forms. Pedagogically, the LMS supports systematic concept learning, student engagement, and formative feedback in one coherent environment.

Abstract

This study aims to map trends in the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in higher education learning, examine its effectiveness, and identify key implementation challenges. A qualitative approach was employed using the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method. Literature was collected from academic databases and platforms, including Google Scholar, Sinta, and DOAJ, covering publications from 2020 to 2025. Relevant national and international journal articles were selected using keywords related to AI, higher education, learning, effectiveness, and challenges. The selected studies were systematically analyzed through an SLR table and synthesized as primary data for the results and discussion. The findings reveal a significant increase in AI adoption, particularly generative AI, in higher education learning. AI is commonly used as a learning assistant, discussion facilitator, and support tool for assessment and academic administration. Its effectiveness is reflected in enhanced student engagement, learning autonomy, and institutional efficiency. Nevertheless, challenges persist, including ethical issues, limited AI literacy, infrastructure constraints, and the lack of adaptive regulatory frameworks. These results indicate that AI integration can improve educational quality when supported by clear policies and ethical governance.

Abstract

The study aims to identify the forms of students’ learning difficulties and the factors underlying them. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method involving seven sixth-grade students at SDN Tegalharjo, Surakarta. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis, and then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The results indicate that most students have a good understanding of basic statistical concepts due to the contextual learning approach applied by the teacher; however, the main difficulties arise at the calculation stage, particularly in calculating the mean with decimal results and determining the median due to a lack of accuracy in ordering data. The factors contributing to these difficulties include limited arithmetic skills, low accuracy, and varying levels of learning support from families. Students’ learning motivation is relatively high, especially when the material is linked to real-life experiences and practical activities. These findings emphasize the need to strengthen basic numeracy skills, improve accuracy, and involve the learning environment to enhance elementary school students’ understanding of Statistics. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that improving elementary students’ understanding of Statistics should focus on reinforcing basic numeracy skills, accuracy in calculation processes, and synergy between contextual learning strategies and learning environment support.   Keyword: Mathematics, Elementary School, Statistics.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the application of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model in developing elementary school students' statistical literacy skills. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach involving 16 sixth-grade students from Sanggrahan Public Elementary School in Surakarta City. Data were obtained through observation, interviews, and document analysis, then analyzed using the Miles & Huberman model. The results showed that the application of PBL was able to improve students' data interpretation skills, critical thinking, and active involvement in statistics learning. Students admitted that it was easier to understand the material because the learning activities involved real experiences and group discussions, while teachers and the principal stated that PBL had a positive impact on the quality of learning even though it required more preparation and time. Factors supporting success included teachers' mastery of PBL, adequate facilities and infrastructure, and school support; while obstacles included time constraints and the need for intensive preparation. This study confirms that PBL is an effective approach to improve elementary school students' statistical literacy and is relevant for application in contextual mathematics learning.   Keyword: Problem-Based Learning, Statistical Literacy, Elementary School.

Abstract

Digital transformation in education demands teachers to master integrated competencies encompassing technology, pedagogy, and content. This study aims to analyze teachers' perceptions and digital competency readiness at SD Muhammadiyah 02 Bendan, Pekalongan City, using the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed with purposive sampling involving five participants. Data were collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews, classroom observations, and documentation studies, then analyzed using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana model. Results reveal an asymmetric digital competency profile: teachers demonstrate high self-efficacy in basic Technological Knowledge (TK) dimensions (software score 2.50; hardware 2.42), yet face significant barriers in Technological Pedagogical Knowledge (TPK), particularly in LMS adoption (score 1.75). A paradox emerges in TPACK integration, where strong pedagogical motivation is constrained by technical skill deficits in content production. Core barriers are predominantly psychological and cultural rather than technical. This study concludes that teacher training programs should be designed strength-based, leveraging existing pedagogical motivation as an entry point for contextually relevant technical competency development.
