Abstract

In urban and industrial regions, noise pollution is becoming a bigger environmental issue, particularly around airports. Excessive noise can have a number of detrimental effects on people's physical and mental well-being. The World Health Organization (WHO) states that extended exposure to noise can raise blood pressure, cause sleep disruptions, cause hearing loss, and increase the risk of cardiovascular disease. The fast expansion of air travel and heightened airport operations in Indonesia have made the noise issue worse. A lot of study has been done on how to lessen airport noise. More environmentally friendly natural solutions, such as the use of plants as noise barriers, have attracted attention as effective and sustainable alternatives. It is hoped that this research can provide practical and effective solutions that not only reduce noise but also support environmental sustainability. Thus, the results of this research will provide long-term benefits for the community around the airport and educational institutions such as the Indonesian Aviation Academy Banyuwangi. With an average noise reduction percentage of 46.79%, the study's results demonstrate the most notable decrease in noise levels. With a noise reduction of 29.54%, Tunas Merah comes in second. With a noise reduction of 23.94%, the TFan spruce comes in third. Noise is only decreased by 17.77% in the absence of barrier plants.

Abstract

This study investigated the effectiveness of three types of urban plants Pucuk Merah, Cemara Kifan, and Furing as noise barriers around airports. Using a 2-inch diameter sound tunnel along 6 meters with 3 mm PVC material, noise measurements were made at several points along the tunnel. The results showed that Furing plants had the most significant decrease in noise levels with an average noise reduction percentage of 46.79%. Pucuk Merah and Cemara TFan showed noise reductions of 29.54% and 23.94% respectively. Without the plant barrier, noise was only reduced by 17.77%. The characteristics of thick and dense leaves, as well as the complex structure of the plant, make Furing the most effective noise barrier. These results suggest that the use of plants, particularly furing, as a natural barrier around airports can significantly reduce the negative impact of noise and create a more comfortable environment.

Abstract

Abstract

Students may experience digital fatigue as a result of substantial increases in academic workload and heavy reliance on digital technologies for learning. This study aims to analyze the effects of academic workload and digital fatigue on students’ academic achievement. A quantitative approach using survey techniques was used for this study, involving 200 students from the secondary school level. A questionnaire was used to collect data, which was then analyzed using multiple linear regression. The results showed a negative relationship between students’ academic achievement and workload, indicating that students’ academic achievement decreased in relation to the number of tasks they were asked to complete; this means that the more academic tasks students had to complete, the lower their academic achievement. The main factor that plays a role in this relationship is digital fatigue, which arises from the excessive use of digital devices in the learning process. Digital fatigue results in mental and physical fatigue, thus exacerbating the impact of academic pressure on students’ achievement. Digital fatigue occurs when students are exposed to digital device screens for too long without sufficient breaks. Common symptoms include eye fatigue, difficulty concentrating, sleep disturbances, and increased levels of stress and anxiety. In the long term, this condition can lead to decreased motivation to learn and negatively impact students’ emotional and psychological well-being. Effective strategies to reduce digital fatigue, such as better time management, variety in learning methods, and adequate breaks in academic activities, are needed, and it is important to provide students with balanced academic tasks so that they are not overburdened. Implementing these steps will help students focus on their studies without negatively impacting their emotional or psychological well-being.

Abstract

This study discusses the implementation of multimodal transportation policies in Papua, as an effort to address the high cost of goods in the region with the aim of reducing logistics costs and accelerating economic growth. Shipping rates in Indonesia remain an unresolved issue, especially in the Papua region, classified as a 3T area (lagging, frontier, and outer), leading to high commodity prices. The research employs bibliometric analysis using the Scopus database as its data source. Out of a total of 5,930 articles found, a filtering process considering location, keywords, and a time range from 2009 to 2023 was conducted. As a result, 200 relevant articles were identified for analysis, and from this pool, 15 articles most aligned with relevant keywords were selected as the primary references for this study. The research findings indicate that the implementation of multimodal transportation policies in Papua has successfully reduced price disparities and improved accessibility to mountainous regions. However, challenges persist in the development of multimodal transportation in 3T areas, prompting recommendations for policies such as collaboration and logistics integration across modes, seaplane transportation, and mountain flying training to optimize logistics delivery in mountainous areas. Additionally, the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) for more efficient logistics delivery is suggested. Furthermore, future research should focus on various aspects of multimodal transportation, including ride-sharing, mobility as a service, railway transportation, traffic congestion, land use, climate change, greenhouse gas emissions, traffic control, transportation costs, safety, travel time, social welfare, and expenses. This study provides insights into the positive impact of multimodal transportation policies in Papua and offers guidance for future development to address the issue of high commodity prices in 3T regions.

Abstract

effectiveness of Apron Movement Control (AMC) supervision in developing a safety culture at the apron of a major airport in North Sumatra. It was motivated by a collision between a Lavatory Service Truck (LST) and a Boeing 737-800 aircraft on October 16, 2024, caused by personnel negligence, unserviceable equipment, and weak supervision. Methodology: A qualitative case study approach was applied. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed thematically using NVivo 15. The ORLIO model was employed to evaluate human error. Result: The study identified repeated violations—normalization of deviance among Ground Support Equipment (GSE) personnel, limited AMC supervision, and non-compliant equipment. ORLIO-based evaluation enhanced personnel reflection and safety awareness, while AMC supervision acted as external enforcement. The synergy between reflection and supervision contributed to a shift in apron safety culture from permissive toward a more mature and sustainable one. Conclusions: The apron accident shows that safety failures stem not only from individual errors but also from the interaction of human, equipment, and supervisory factors. Integrating ORLIO and AMC supervision effectively enhances safety awareness and procedural discipline. Limitations: The study is limited to one airport, with qualitative data that may involve subjectivity. It focuses on operational staff, excluding higher management, and does not assess long-term impacts quantitatively. Contribution: The study was limited to one airport, so findings may not represent all contexts. It contributes to aviation safety management by demonstrating how combining human error evaluation and AMC supervision strengthens apron safety culture, offering practical insights for airport authorities and regulators.

Abstract

The oxygen mask system on an aircraft is one of the important elements in maintaining the safety of passengers and crew in emergency situations, especially when there is a loss of cabin pressure. This study aims to examine the effectiveness and working mechanism of the oxygen mask system on classic Boeing aircraft, namely the Boeing 737-300, 737-400, and 737-500, during an emergency. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative, with data collection techniques through interviews, observations, and literature studies. The results of this oxygen mask system study involved various units on the aircraft, including the Passenger Service Unit (PSU), Restroom Service Unit (LSU), and Attendant Service Unit (ASU). Oxygen in the aircraft is supplied from a cylinder through a pressure regulator, and the oxygen mask is automatically released when the cabin pressure drops below a certain threshold. In addition, the oxygen system can also be activated manually by the flight crew. One of the challenges is passenger confusion regarding the correct use of oxygen masks. This study also examines applicable safety regulations as set by the FAA and ICAO, to ensure that the oxygen system functions optimally in an emergency. The study also provides recommendations to improve routine training for cabin crew in handling oxygen mask systems and other safety procedures.

Abstract

This article discusses the performance analysis of the CFM56-3-B1 turbofan engine used on the Boeing 737-300 aircraft under various operational conditions. This study was conducted to understand the engine performance under different flight conditions, such as minimum idle, approach idle, maximum continuous, and take off. This study was conducted using a qualitative method using a descriptive approach and literature study. The results of the analysis prove that the performance of the fan, booster, and high-pressure compressor (HPC) is higher than its ideal value due to compressor imbalance and leakage that causes an increase in compression temperature. Furthermore, it was found that during the take-off process the thermal efficiency became high with an actual efficiency of 37%, but still lower than the ideal efficiency of 47%, which was caused by material friction and environmental factors. While the maximum thrust was achieved thanks to the combination of hot and cold nozzle designs. The conclusion shows that engine efficiency is affected by material friction and environmental conditions, which have an impact on reducing thermal efficiency by 9.59%. Suggestions are given to improve thermal efficiency and thrust by optimizing airflow and engine cooling.
