Abstract

Background. This research is a continuation of previous studies conducted by other researchers. The reason for this is because many students tend to rely on their mother tongue while in class or in the learning process. This reliance greatly affects children's listening skills. Purpose The researcher's aim was to investigate the impact of mother tongue use on students' language skills, especially in Nias Islands, with a focus on communication during the teaching and learning process.   Method. This research used a descriptive approach within a qualitative methodological framework. The research used assessment tools to evaluate language selection, semantic appropriateness, and the use of affixes. The data was collected through classroom observations and interviews with Indonesian language teachers in related schools. Results. The results show that many students still use their mother tongue when communicating with teachers, although some have shown partial proficiency in Indonesian, but still mix it with mother tongue. Conclusion Observation was the method that influenced the findings of this study, as it allowed the researcher to directly observe the students' use of language during the learning process.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the limited use of digital teaching materials in teaching explanatory texts in grade IX of SMP Negeri 1 Hiliserangkai. Learning is still dominated by the use of printed books, resulting in less interactive presentation of materials and inability to facilitate students' independent learning. This condition indicates the need to develop digital teaching materials that are more interesting, easily accessible, and support active student involvement in the learning process. This study aims to develop a Flipbook-based e-module and determine its feasibility, practicality, and effectiveness. The study used the Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE model. The research subjects were 31 grade IX-A students of SMP Negeri 1 Hiliserangkai. Data were collected using expert validation sheets, student response questionnaires, and learning outcome tests, then analyzed descriptively quantitatively using percentages. The results showed that the Flipbook-based e-module experienced an increase in validation results from material experts (66% to 98%), language experts (92% to 100%), and design/media experts (66% to 91%). The practicality level reached 78% in the small group trial and increased to 95% in the large group trial, while the effectiveness level increased from 73% to 86%. Based on these results, the Flipbook-based e-module was declared highly valid, very practical, and very effective for use in teaching explanatory texts in grade IX of SMP Negeri 1 Hiliserangkai
