Abstract

This study aims to analyze the use of vasectomy as a permanent contraceptive method for men from the perspective of Hadith and Islamic law. Vasectomy is a medical procedure that involves cutting the sperm duct to prevent fertilization. Medically, this method is considered effective in controlling birth rates; however, it carries biological and psychological consequences that require careful consideration. The research employs a qualitative method with a library research approach, utilizing primary and secondary sources such as books, classical Islamic texts, academic journals, and online databases including Scopus, ScienceDirect, Sage Journal, Dimensions, and Google Scholar. The collected data were classified and analyzed descriptively, presented in narrative form, as well as through tables and graphs to enhance understanding. The findings indicate that, from the perspective of Hadith, there is no explicit prohibition against contraception; however, the practice of ‘azl (coitus interruptus) as exemplified by the Prophet suggests that birth control should be non-permanent and carried out with mutual consent between husband and wife. From the standpoint of Islamic law, permanent vasectomy is not permissible unless it is performed for legitimate medical reasons that threaten life or health. Such action contradicts the principles of maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah, particularly ḥifẓ al-nasl (protection of lineage). Therefore, this study emphasizes that decisions regarding vasectomy should integrate medical, social, and religious considerations to ensure alignment with the overarching goal of achieving maslahah (human welfare) in Islam.

Abstract

This community service activity aimed to enhance religious understanding, spiritual preparedness, and social solidarity among community members in welcoming the holy month of Ramadan. The program was conducted on Saturday evening, February 14, 2026, after the Isha prayer at Masjid Al-Hilal, targeting the residents of Tambiski Village. The main speaker was Azhar Nasution, M.Ag., accompanied by a team of lecturers from Sekolah Tinggi Agama Islam Negeri Mandailing Natal. The activity employed lecture-based, participatory, educational, and religio-cultural approaches, positioning the community as both the subject and the object of the program. The results indicated an increase in public understanding of the importance of physical and spiritual preparation before entering Ramadan. This was reflected in the participants’ enthusiasm throughout the activity, especially during the discussion and question-and-answer session, which focused on recommended sunnah practices, fasting etiquette, spiritual preparation, and ways to cultivate a worshipful atmosphere within the family. The attendance of participants from various social groups demonstrated strong community engagement and support for religious activities in the village. The program also generated positive social impacts, including greater motivation among younger generations to participate in religious activities, strengthened social relationships among residents, and the growth of a spirit of mutual cooperation. Overall, this community service activity successfully served as a medium of religious education, spiritual motivation, and reinforcement of socio-religious values in welcoming Ramadan

Abstract

Purpose: This community service activity aims to improve students' academic literacy through training in the use of reference managers and digital literature mapping applications. Methodology: The method used in this community service was the ABCD model, conducted online via the Zoom Meeting Cloud platform, with 100 students from various study programs at STAIN Mandailing Natal participating. The activity included preparation, implementation, evaluation, and follow-up. Results: The results of the activity showed that students gained increased understanding and skills in using reference manager applications, and were able to utilize Scispace and Vosviewer to enrich their research insights. Furthermore, participants stated that this training was very useful in preparing scientific papers that were of higher quality, systematic, and met academic standards. Conclusions: This community service training proved relevant and effective, improving academic understanding, practical skills, and students’ readiness for career development and further academic study optimally overall. Limitations: This community service activity has several limitations, including its online implementation, large participant numbers, limited internet access, and short-term evaluations that have not yet measured long-term impacts on students’ scientific work. Contributions: This community service activity strengthens students’ academic literacy and research skills, especially in using reference managers and digital literature mapping tools to produce systematic scientific work at STAIN Mandailing Natal. It enhances understanding of academic writing, ethics, information management, and improves citation accuracy, research efficiency, and institutional research quality overall.

Abstract

Ancient hadith manuscripts as an Islamic intellectual heritage in Indonesia reflect the dynamics of hadith transmission and adaptation in local contexts, but the increase in philological publications has not been accompanied by a comprehensive mapping of trends, methods, and scholarly contributions. This article answers the main question: how are publication trends, methodological approaches, and contributions to philological research on ancient hadith manuscripts in Indonesia developing, and what research gaps need to be addressed? The novelty of this research lies in a systematic literature review that integrates bibliometric analysis to uncover gaps such as the dominance of descriptive approaches and the lack of integration with classical hadith science. The methodology uses a qualitative literature review, a search of 30 articles via Google Scholar with the keyword "ancient manuscripts", data analysis using Dimensions AI, and classification in tables, graphs, and narratives to map journal affiliations, regions, and accreditation. The main results show an increasing publication trend since 2018 (peaking at 5 articles in 2019 and 2022), a dominance of Padjadjaran University and UIN Raden Fatah Palembang, a concentration in Java and Sumatra, and the majority of publications in non-SINTA journals. The discussion underlines the integration of philology-hadith as a complementary approach to textual criticism, sanad, matan, and heritage preservation, encouraging more integrative and contextual research.

Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji urgensi pendidikan Islam dalam perspektif hadis nabawi dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif melalui metode library research. Sumber data utama berasal dari literatur klasik dan kontemporer, termasuk buku, kumpulan hadis, artikel ilmiah, serta referensi relevan lainnya. Pengumpulan dan analisis data didukung oleh platform Dimensions untuk penelusuran publikasi terkait, serta aplikasi VOSviewer untuk pemetaan topik dan analisis bibliometrik. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pendidikan Islam memiliki posisi yang sangat strategis dalam kehidupan umat Muslim. Pertama, pendidikan merupakan kewajiban individu yang secara eksplisit ditekankan dalam berbagai hadis, di mana setiap Muslim, tanpa membedakan gender maupun status sosial, diwajibkan menuntut ilmu sebagai dasar pembentukan akhlak dan kepribadian. Kedua, pendidikan dipandang sebagai investasi jangka panjang yang memberikan manfaat berkelanjutan bagi individu, keluarga, dan masyarakat, sebagaimana tercermin dalam hadis tentang pahala ilmu yang tidak terputus. Ketiga, pendidikan menjadi pilar peradaban yang berperan penting dalam membangun masyarakat yang berilmu, berakhlak, dan berkeadilan, mengikuti teladan Nabi Muhammad SAW dalam membina masyarakat Madinah melalui pengajaran dan pembinaan moral. Temuan ini menegaskan peran integratif pendidikan dalam membentuk karakter pribadi sekaligus mendorong kemajuan peradaban.

Abstract

This study explores the concepts of targhib (motivation through promises and hope) and tarhib (motivation through warnings and threats) as reflected in Imam al-Mundhiri’s didactic work Al-Targhib wal-Tarhib, which compiles Prophetic hadiths on encouragement and deterrence. Using a qualitative descriptive approach through library research, this study analyzes selected hadiths thematically to identify their educational and psychological implications. The findings reveal that the targhib–tarhib framework represents a balanced motivational system in Islamic education, combining positive reinforcement with moral awareness and behavioral control. Imam al-Mundhiri’s work demonstrates how the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) utilized emotional and spiritual stimuli to nurture faith, discipline, and ethical conduct among learners. In the perspective of educational psychology, this method aligns with reinforcement and behavior modification theories but extends beyond them by integrating spiritual and moral dimensions. The implementation of targhib–tarhib principles in contemporary learning environments can serve as an effective strategy to enhance students’ intrinsic motivation, character formation, and emotional intelligence, contributing to the development of holistic and value-based education.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the infiltration of the ma’tsur sources, namely the hadiths about the virtues of the surahs of the Qur'an. Imam as-Suyūṭī in Tadrib ar-Rawi said that the hadiths concerning the virtues of the surahs of the Qur'an are mostly weak, only a few surahs are considered to be based on authentic hadiths, but in reality, other authentic or hasan hadiths were found in several other surahs, which he mentioned among others in the book al-Itqan fi 'Ulum Alqur’an. This study is a qualitative library research that is analyzed using content analysis techniques related to the infiltration of the hadiths about the virtues of the surahs of the Qur'an according to Imam as-Suyūṭī in his works al-Itqan fi 'Ulum Alqur’an and Tafsir ad-Dur al-Mantsur. While the secondary data sources of this study are books, articles, literature, journals and internet sites that are relevant to the research being conducted. The findings of this study are that some of the virtues of the surah mentioned have hadiths about its virtues with authentic and hasan hadiths, such as the virtues of Q.S. Hud, Q.S. al-'Ala, al-Bayyinah, as-Sajdah al-Mufashshal and others. However, there are also several hadiths of the virtues of surahs that are considered mawdhu and many are dha'if such as the virtues of surah al-Rahman, al-Isra' al-Musabbahat.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of a metacognitive approach in teaching Ulumul Qur’an and Ulumul Hadith at STAIN Mandailing Natal. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, and documentation involving lecturers and students. The findings indicate that metacognitive strategies such as reflective questioning, analytical discussion, learning journals, and self-assessment contributed to improving students’ conceptual understanding, analytical thinking, and reflective awareness in studying Qur’anic and hadith sciences. Students demonstrated stronger engagement in contextual interpretation, sanad analysis, and matn evaluation across the planning, monitoring, and evaluation stages. This study contributes to the development of a contextual metacognitive learning model for Islamic higher education.

Abstract

This article aims to examine the concept, methodology, and development of maudhu’i (thematic) hadith research in the context of contemporary Islamic studies in Indonesia. Maudhu’i hadith is a relevant strategic approach in responding to the social, legal, and moral dynamics of Muslims through a comprehensive thematic understanding of the hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. This research employs a qualitative method with a library research approach to explore the trends, patterns, and scientific contributions of published thematic hadith studies. Data was collected through two main platforms: Dimensions.ai to trace global and national trends in relevant scientific publications, and the Science and Technology Index (SINTA) to track accredited national journals containing articles in the field of Hadith Science and Islamic Studies. Data analysis was conducted using qualitative-descriptive techniques, classified based on themes, methodologies, institutional affiliations, and the growth in the number of publications year over year. The research findings indicate that maudhu’i hadith research has experienced significant development in Indonesia, supported by the increasing number of Hadith Studies programmes and the academic productivity of lecturers and researchers at various universities. This study also found that the integration of thematic approaches with digital technology has strengthened the effectiveness of Hadith research and made it more applicable. These findings confirm that thematic Hadith research plays a crucial role in the development of modern Islamic studies and enriches the body of Islamic knowledge in the digital age. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji konsep, metodologi, dan perkembangan riset hadis maudhu’i (tematik) dalam konteks studi Islam kontemporer di Indonesia. Hadis maudhu’i merupakan pendekatan strategis yang relevan dalam menjawab dinamika sosial, hukum, dan moral umat Islam melalui pemahaman tematik yang komprehensif terhadap hadis-hadis Nabi Muhammad. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi kepustakaan (library research) guna mengeksplorasi kecenderungan, pola, dan kontribusi ilmiah dari kajian hadis maudhu’i yang telah dipublikasikan. Data dikumpulkan melalui dua platform utama, yaitu Dimensions.ai untuk menelusuri tren global dan nasional publikasi ilmiah yang relevan, serta Science and Technology Index (SINTA) untuk melacak jurnal-jurnal nasional terakreditasi yang memuat artikel dalam bidang Ilmu Hadis dan Studi Islam. Teknik analisis data dilakukan secara kualitatif-deskriptif dengan klasifikasi berdasarkan tema, metodologi, afiliasi institusi, serta pertumbuhan jumlah publikasi dari tahun ke tahun. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa riset hadis maudhu’i mengalami perkembangan signifikan di Indonesia, didukung oleh meningkatnya jumlah program studi Ilmu Hadis dan produktivitas akademik para dosen serta peneliti di berbagai perguruan tinggi. Kajian ini juga menemukan bahwa integrasi antara pendekatan tematik dengan teknologi digital telah memperkuat efektivitas riset hadis dan menjadikannya lebih aplikatif. Temuan ini menegaskan bahwa riset hadis maudhu’i berperan penting dalam pengembangan studi Islam modern serta memperkaya khazanah keilmuan Islam di era digital.
