Abstract

Hair is an important aspect of a person's appearance. Hair in the elderly experiences a decline in quality which is often characterized by thinning, brittleness and loss. Vitamin D plays an important role in this condition because it affects the growth cycle of hair follicles. A deficiency can cause hair to become brittle and fall out easily. In this community service activity, education is provided to explain the importance of vitamin D and how to get it through a healthy diet and lifestyle. Screening using a hair analyzer shows problems with hair loss and low hair density as well as lots of dead skin cells. Effective education and nutritional interventions, including vitamin D supplementation, are essential to improve hair health and ultimately the quality of life of elderly. Treating vitamin D deficiency, including hair and scalp care, must be an integral part of the elderly's health program. Keywords: education, hair health, elderly, community service, vitamin D

Abstract

Skin hydration is critical to maintaining healthy skin, as the skin functions as a physical barrier against external environmental factors such as pathogen invasion, UV radiation, chemical exposure, and mechanical trauma. This activity highlights the importance of early detection of skin hydration levels to prevent conditions such as dry skin with a Plan-Do-Check-Action (PDCA) approach. Effective strategies such as regular use of moisturizer, a healthy diet, increased fluid intake, a gentle skin cleansing routine, and regular monitoring using a skin analyzer are important to maintain healthy skin. Community education and screening demonstrated a positive impact on skin hydration awareness and practice, emphasizing the importance of hydration in improving skin barrier function and overall quality of life.

Abstract

Hemoglobin and hematocrit are important parameters in assessing anemia and other blood diseases. Hemoglobin transports oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body, while hematocrit reflects the density of red blood cells in the blood. This community service activity was carried out at Kalam Kudus II High School, Duri Kosambi Village, Jakarta, involving 68 men and women of productive age. Screening activities are carried out by measuring hemoglobin and hematocrit levels using the For-A brand Point Of Care Testing (POCT) tool. The majority of respondents had normal hemoglobin levels (68.9%), while a small percentage experienced mild anemia (21.6%) and moderate anemia (9.5%). The average hemoglobin level was 13.28 g/dL and hematocrit 38.66%. The 18-35 year age group has the highest hemoglobin and hematocrit levels, while the 51-64 year age group has the lowest. Lifestyle factors, nutrition, genetics, and chronic medical conditions influence hemoglobin and hematocrit levels. Regular monitoring is important in detecting and managing anemia and improving public health.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) occurs when blood sugar (glucose) levels are very high for a long period of time. If the glucose level is less than 126 mg/dL during fasting or less than 200 mg/dL two hours after eating, we diagnose diabetes. In low- and middle-income countries, DM affects as many as 422 million people and is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Uncontrolled diabetes can cause severe complications such as cardiovascular disease, kidney damage, nerve damage, and vision problems. To prevent this complication, early detection through blood glucose checks is critical. This activity uses the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) method for diabetes screening in adults at PT. Narindo, North Jakarta. The results of blood sugar checks showed that 5 people (3.97%) had blood sugar levels above normal. Increasing public awareness and knowledge about the risks of diabetes and healthy living is very important to reduce the incidence of diabetes so that it can improve overall health outcomes.

Abstract

Temporary blood sugar is the level of glucose in the blood that measured without considering the time of the last meal, and often used to detect diabetes mellitus or impaired glucose tolerance. This community service activity aims to describe the distribution of blood sugar levels in 68 men and women of productive age at  Kalam Kudus II High School, Jakarta. This community service activity is carried out using the Plan-Do-Check-Action method. The results showed that the majority of respondents had normal fasting blood sugar levels (97.1%), with an average of 113.26 mg/dL and a median of 104 mg/dL. Lifestyle factors, nutrition, genetics, and chronic medical conditions can affect blood sugar levels at any time. Regular monitoring of blood sugar levels is essential for early detection and management of diabetes mellitus, which can prevent serious complications such as cardiovascular disease and nephropathy. Prevention strategies include a healthy diet, physical activity, patient education, and appropriate medical interventions. Comprehensive public health programs are needed to increase awareness and management of diabetes, as well as improve the quality of life of individuals affected by this disease.

Abstract

Body composition refers to the distribution of fat, muscle, bone, and other tissues in the human body, which is often expressed as a percentage of total body weight consisting of fat mass and lean body mass. Obesity, characterized by excess fat in adipose tissue, poses a significant health risk and is increasing in countries with low and medium mortality rates, especially in metropolitan areas. Factors contributing to this include genetics, a lack of physical activity, socioeconomic status, unhealthy eating patterns, psychosocial factors, smoking, and alcohol consumption. Excess body fat significantly contributes to morbidity and mortality. Although optimal body fat levels vary, excess fat increases the risk of health issues such as joint problems and cardiovascular disease. People widely use bioimpedance analysis (BIA), an efficient, non-invasive method, to assess nutritional status and body composition. This activity uses the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Action) method, which is carried out at PT. Narindo, North Jakarta, in the productive age population. The examination results showed that the average levels of total body fat, visceral fat, total subcutaneous fat, total muscle mass were 28.6%; 11%; 22.2%; 28.3%. Early detection of body composition is critical for assessing nutritional and health status as well as diagnosing disease, potentially reducing obesity-related morbidity and mortality.

Abstract

Nutritional status is an important determinant of overall health and well-being, having a major influence on growth, development, and overall health outcomes. The prevalence of stunting, wasting, and underweight among children in low- and middle-income countries around the world decreased by 29.1%, 6.3%, and 13.7% respectively between 2006 and 2018. For this investigation, PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Action Method) is used. A total of 165 people participated in a community outreach initiative conducted in March 2024 at an elementary school located in West Java, Indonesia. Early detection of nutritional status is carried out by taking anthropometric measurements. Nutrition during childhood and adolescence is critical for optimal development, growth, and long-term health. Rapid assessment of nutritional status will facilitate timely interventions aimed at preventing disease and reducing premature mortality
