Abstract

Kidney dysfunction often remains undetected in its early stages due to minimal clinical symptoms. Serum creatinine and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) examinations are the main parameters to assess kidney filtration function. Lifestyle factors such as a high-sodium diet play a role in accelerating the decline in kidney function. Creatinine and eGFR examinations were performed by taking venous blood from 104 adult participants. Samples were analyzed in the laboratory, while education was provided directly to all participants after blood sampling, focusing on reducing sodium consumption and improving diet. The examination showed that the average creatinine level was still within normal limits, but the eGFR value of some participants showed a decline in kidney function. The agreement between the two parameters reinforces the importance of laboratory examinations in detecting the risk of declining kidney function. Education successfully conveyed information about the effect of salt consumption on kidney health. eGFR and creatinine examinations are effective steps to detect the risk of kidney dysfunction in asymptomatic populations. Education about reducing sodium and improving diet plays an important role in preventing progressive kidney damage.

Abstract

Hyperuricemia is a condition characterized by elevated uric acid levels in the blood, which can increase the risk of chronic kidney failure due to the deposition of uric acid crystals in renal tissue. Education and screening for uric acid levels are crucial for the early detection and prevention of hyperuricemia, particularly in the adult population. This community service program utilized the Plan–Do–Check–Act (PDCA) approach, encompassing counseling on risk factors of hyperuricemia, uric acid level screening with Point Of Care Testing (POCT), and education on strategies to prevent chronic kidney disease. The activity involved 40 participants of productive age, with an average age of 43.97 years. The mean uric acid level was recorded at 5.74 mg/dL. Educational interventions successfully increased participants’ awareness of the importance of maintaining uric acid levels within normal limits. Routine screening enables early identification of at-risk individuals and facilitates timely implementation of preventive measures. This program highlights the importance of public education and early detection in reducing the risk of chronic kidney disease and underscores the role of preventive health efforts in improving overall quality of life. Abstract

Imbalance in skin surface water and oil levels serves as an early indicator of skin barrier disruption, particularly in populations residing in tropical climates. Assessing these parameters can effectively raise public awareness regarding the importance of hydration in maintaining skin integrity. This community activity was conducted among adults at St. Francis of Assisi Church, South Jakarta. Skin hydration and oil levels were measured using a portable digital skin analyzer, followed by group education through visual posters emphasizing the role of adequate fluid intake in supporting skin health. A total of 65 participants were assessed. The mean water content was 44.45%, oil content 21%, and the average hydration index was 49.3. While most participants fell within the neutral range, over one-third exhibited low water or oil levels, indicating a potential risk for impaired skin moisture balance. Skin hydration and sebum levels reflect the homeostatic condition of the skin surface, which is closely linked to systemic fluid adequacy. Education based on individual examination results provides a tangible understanding of the role of hydration in preserving skin barrier function, and may support behavioral change toward better fluid management and skin care. Abstract

Abstract

The number of cases of kidney disorders continues to rise, often going unnoticed due to the absence of symptoms in the early stages. Examination of creatinine levels and estimation of glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) can identify impaired kidney function before permanent damage occurs. The habit of drinking enough water is one simple way to maintain kidney function. The activity was carried out using the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) approach. Officers took venous blood samples aseptically for analysis in the laboratory to assess creatinine levels and calculate eGFR. Participants received the results of the examination along with education about the role of hydration in supporting kidney excretion. The examination involved 62 participants aged 23 to 76 years. The median eGFR value was recorded as 97.0 mL/minute, and creatinine levels ranged from 0.60 to 3.77 mg/dL. Kidney function screening identified participants at risk of decreased excretory capacity. Education about the importance of drinking water regularly needs to be provided to prevent further kidney damage and maintain optimal filtration function.

Abstract

Obesity during productive age significantly increases the risk of various metabolic complications, including diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular diseases. Body composition assessment, particularly through Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA), plays a crucial role in early detection and provides accurate measurement of fat and muscle distribution. BIA enables the identification of body fat percentage and muscle mass, which are key indicators in evaluating health risks and planning appropriate lifestyle interventions. This community health activity employed the Plan–Do–Check–Act (PDCA) approach, focusing on health education and body composition screening using BIA for early obesity detection. A total of 40 participants of productive age groups were involved in this initiative. The average body fat percentage was 26.88%, and the average muscle mass was 25.44%, reflecting a notable risk of obesity in this population.  Health education combined with BIA-based screening has proven effective in raising awareness and promoting early identification of obesity-related risks. Through BIA, participants gained a better understanding of their body composition, which motivated positive lifestyle changes. Regular monitoring of body composition is recommended to help reduce obesity prevalence among productive age groups and to enhance community health and quality of life.

Abstract

Hydrated skin is an important indicator of overall skin health, as water content in the stratum corneum plays a vital role in maintaining the skin barrier function. Insufficient hydration can lead to dry skin, increase the risk of infections, and reduce quality of life. This activity aimed to assess skin water and oil levels among the elderly residents at Hana Nursing Home to prevent dry skin conditions. The PDCA (Plan–Do–Check–Act) approach was applied, which included planning the screening activities, measuring skin water and oil levels, evaluating the results, and providing skin care education for participants with abnormal findings. A total of 36 elderly individuals participated in this activity at Hana Nursing Home, South Tangerang. The results showed that 20 participants (55.56%) had low oil levels, while 24 participants (66.67%) had low water levels. These findings underscore the importance of maintaining skin hydration through adequate fluid intake, regular use of moisturizers, and adopting a healthy lifestyle. Early detection of skin hydration status, combined with targeted education, is effective in preventing dry skin and improving quality of life in the elderly population.

Abstract

Body mass index (BMI) and waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) are key indicators in evaluating metabolic risk. A high distribution of abdominal fat is closely associated with insulin resistance and various metabolic disorders. Mealtime-based interventions, such as time-restricted eating (TRE), are considered promising preventive strategies. This community education and anthropometric assessment were conducted at St. Francis of Assisi Church, South Jakarta, using the Plan–Do–Check–Act (PDCA) framework. Parameters evaluated included BMI and WHR, accompanied by visual educational materials on daily mealtime structuring. Among the 65 adult participants, the average BMI was 25.74 kg/m² and the average WHR was 0.9. A total of 56.92% were categorized as obese, and 83.08% exhibited a high WHR. These findings reflect a predominance of central adiposity, which is strongly associated with elevated metabolic risk. The high proportion of individuals with overweight and central fat accumulation highlights the urgency of preventive and promotive efforts. Educational interventions, particularly through poster-based delivery of information on time-restricted eating, present a feasible approach to raising public awareness on the importance of structured mealtimes as a preventive measure against metabolic disorders.

Abstract

Hyperuricemia contributes to various metabolic disorders, including gout and kidney disease. Detection of uric acid levels through simple screening is important for early risk identification. One non-pharmacological approach that can help reduce uric acid levels is maintaining adequate fluid intake. Uric acid level examination was performed by taking capillary blood from 104 adult participants. Results were obtained directly using the Point-of-Care Testing (POCT) instrument. Education was provided to all participants using a leaflet discussing the role of hydration in supporting uric acid excretion. The average uric acid level was recorded at 4.08 ± 1.00 mg/dL. A total of 103 participants (99.0%) were in the normal range, and 1 participant (1.0%) had high levels. Most participants have not experienced excessive urate accumulation, but still need education to maintain this status. Uric acid level screening is useful as an effort to detect the risk of metabolic disorders early. Education about the importance of fluid intake is the main strategy to maintain uric acid levels within normal limits and prevent complications due to hyperuricemia.
