Abstract

Abstract Teacher candidates play a strategic role in ensuring the quality of future educational systems, yet many continue to encounter significant challenges during their teaching practicum, particularly related to pedagogical competence. This study investigates the pedagogical obstacles faced by EFL teacher candidates during their teaching performance in the English Laboratory of Muhammadiyah University of Metro. Using a descriptive qualitative design, data were collected through observation, interviews, and document analysis involving 12 assistants and 5 key informants. The findings reveal that teacher candidates commonly struggle with selecting appropriate teaching methods, managing students’ diverse learning abilities, and utilizing instructional media effectively. Moreover, the mismatch between chosen teaching strategies and students’ learning conditions often leads to ineffective learning processes. This study highlights the importance of strengthening pedagogical competence, including mastery of teaching methods, classroom management, and instructional media integration, to improve the teaching readiness of future teachers. The implications emphasize the need for more comprehensive pedagogical training and ongoing mentorship during teaching practicum programs.

Abstract

The buas buas (Premna pubescens Blume) plant is from the Lamiaceae family. The use of ethanol extract of buas buas leaf (Premna pubescens Blume) as soap is because soap is one of the health products needed by many people to maintain a healthy body. It is used as an antibacterial because buas buas leaves contain secondary metabolites that can be used as antibacterial. The Buas buas leaf Simplicia (Premna pubescens Blume) was extracted using 96% ethanol by maceration and concentrated with a rotary evaporator to evaporate the solvent. The concentrated extract obtained was tested by phytochemical screening, formulated into liquid soap with concentrations of 5%, 10%, 15% and tested for pH, foam height, viscosity, specific gravity and irritation test, and antibacterial activity against staphylococcus aureus bacteria. The results of the phytochemical screening test of the ethanol extract of buas buas leaf (Premna pubescens Blume) contained secondary metabolites in the form of alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins and steroids/triterpenoids. Liquid soap made with concentrations of 5%, 10%, and 15% has a pH of 10-10.3; foam height 50-90 mm; viscosity 1210-1290 cP; specific gravity 1-1.08 and did not cause irritation to volunteers; and have inhibitory power of 14.2 mm, 15.0 mm, 16.0 mm, and 20.0 mm against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria, respectively.

Abstract

Ventriloquism-based instructional innovation introduces a performative dialogic medium that merges cognitive, affective, moral, and social dimensions of learning into a unified interactive experience. By positioning the puppet as a “dialogue partner,” the approach creates psychologically safe communication spaces, reduces speaking anxiety, and transforms abstract concepts into personified narratives. This qualitative field study examines the pedagogical role of ventriloquism-based instruction in strengthening classroom engagement and value internalization in secondary-level Islamic Education (PAI). Using classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis, the study explores how puppetry mediates teacher–student interaction and shapes students’ learning experiences. The findings reveal that ventriloquism enhances behavioral, emotional, and cognitive engagement by reducing affective barriers, fostering dialogic participation, and creating an emotionally safe learning environment. The puppet functions not merely as an entertaining medium but also as an instructional mediator that builds students’ confidence to speak, models polite and ethical questioning, and supports empathetic communication aligned with prophetic pedagogical values (adab al-hiwār). The results align with multidimensional engagement theory, social learning and self-efficacy development, sociocultural mediation within the Zone of Proximal Development, multimedia learning principles, and embodied cognition perspectives. This theoretical convergence positions ventriloquism as an integrated pedagogical strategy rather than a peripheral creative technique. The study contributes to the field by framing ventriloquism as a low-cost, teacher-driven instructional innovation that harmonizes creative performative media with Islamic educational values. Although limited to a single case study, the findings offer a foundation for future comparative, longitudinal, and mixed-method research on creative pedagogies in value-based education.

Abstract

The basic duty of the Republic of Indonesia's General Attorney in the Special Crime Division is to undertake a repressive function. A preventive strategy includes actions taken to prevent product/service corruption crime by the Civil and State Administration Division of Indonesia's Attorney General (DATUN). This study aims to analyse the construction of JPN authorisation based on Indonesia's Attorney General Law. The method used in this study was a juridical, normative one. The results show that given the textual meaning with a grammatical interpretation related to the attorney's duty and authority in civil and state administration based on Article 30, Clause (2) of Indonesia's Attorney General Law in terms of acting for and on behalf of the state or government, the prosecutor in the civil and state administration area should have special power. The clause emphasises the phrase "special power” but does not mention explicitly the State Attorney General. Nevertheless, the interpretation of special power as mentioned in Article 30, Clause (2) of the Attorney General Law to be State General Attorney is found in the Republic of Indonesia Attorney General's Regulation. However, in the concept of norm constructed, this authority should be preceded by a demand. The translation of JPN in the context of function provides a legal deliberation where, on the one hand, the absence of special power of attorney facilitates the role of JPN in attempting to prevent corruption crime, but on the other hand, causes an inconsistent application of the rule.

Abstract

Deep learning in elementary education has become increasingly relevant as 21st-century competencies emphasize conceptual understanding, transferability, and higher-order thinking skills from an early stage. This study aimed to synthesize deep learning strategies and their implementation methods in elementary education using a systematic literature review (SLR) approach based on PRISMA. The search process was conducted using keywords related to “deep learning” and “elementary education” across national and international academic databases, followed by screening based on inclusion–exclusion criteria and data extraction for thematic synthesis. Of the 30 documents identified, 20 studies met the criteria for analysis. The findings indicate that deep learning in elementary education is most commonly operationalized through project-based, problem-based, and inquiry-based strategies, strengthened by collaboration and reflection as cross-cutting elements. Recurring implementation patterns include contextual engagement, exploration, concept reinforcement, product or solution creation, presentation and feedback, and reflection, with authentic assessment (performance rubrics, portfolios, and self/peer assessment) ensuring learning depth. The most consistent impacts include improved conceptual understanding, enhanced critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and the development of communication and collaboration abilities. These findings highlight the importance of strengthening teachers’ capacity in designing tasks and authentic assessments, as well as providing institutional support to ensure sustainable implementation of deep learning in elementary education.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of management functions (planning, organizing, actuating, and controlling) in improving the performance of early childhood education institutions in the Early Childhood Islamic Education Study Program (PIAUD) at UIN Raden Fatah. A qualitative approach with a case study method was employed through data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and documentation involving program leaders, lecturers, and educational staff. The results indicate that the implementation of management functions has been carried out systematically: planning includes the formulation of vision and mission as well as structured work programs; organizing is conducted through a clear division of tasks; the implementation of academic and non-academic activities is relatively in accordance with the plan despite some technical constraints; and controlling is conducted through periodic evaluations. This effective implementation contributes to improving learning quality, educators’ professionalism, and institutional management effectiveness. Therefore, continuous optimization of management functions is the key to improving the quality of early childhood education.
