Abstract

Efforts to manage waste are being carried out at various levels, ranging from households to large-scale industries that generate waste on a daily basis. The imbalance between waste generation and proper management has turned waste into a serious environmental concern. Among the different types of waste, plastic is one of the most difficult to naturally decompose (non-biodegradable) and represents the largest portion compared to other waste materials. Statistical data show that in several cities across Indonesia, the amount of non-biodegradable waste disposed of at final disposal sites reaches 6,598.23 tons per day. This study was conducted with both general and specific objectives. The general aim was to utilize plastic waste as a composite material, while the specific objective was to analyze the tensile strength properties of composites produced from plastic waste reinforced with durian fibers. By exploring the potential of plastic waste in construction materials, this research seeks to provide a sustainable solution to the plastic waste problem while contributing to environmental preservation. Four different specimens were prepared for testing: Specimen A (80% plastic waste and 20% durian fiber), Specimen B (60% plastic waste and 40% durian fiber), Specimen C (40% plastic waste and 60% durian fiber), and Specimen D (20% plastic waste and 80% durian fiber). The results revealed that Specimen B exhibited the highest average tensile strength of 20.9 MPa, indicating significant potential for enhancing material performance. In contrast, Specimen D showed the lowest average tensile strength of only 1.2 MPa, highlighting the need for further composition optimization to improve mechanical properties. Overall, this study provides valuable insights into the development of recycled composite materials for use in construction and broader industrial applications.

Abstract

Global climate change, characterized by an increase in the average temperature of the Earth, is an important issue that affects human life. One of the phenomena that occurs is the Urban Heat Island (UHI) phenomenon. This phenomenon occurs due to the lack of green plants that function as absorbers of solar heat. However, the effectiveness of plants in absorbing solar heat can vary. Therefore, experimental scientific studies are needed to determine the extent to which hanging ornamental plants can absorb solar heat. This study tested five types of hanging ornamental plants to obtain heat absorption values, namely Epipremnum aureum, Chlorophytum comosum, Paperomia hopei, Discidia geri, and Tradescantia spatcheae. The results of the study found that Chlorophytum Comosum (spider plant) had the highest heat absorption value of 1 kJ. This study contributes to providing solutions for controlling environmental temperature.

Abstract

Central Sulawesi lies within a seismically active region, particularly along subduction zones and fault lines that extend across both marine and terrestrial domains. This area has experienced several major earthquakes, resulting in substantial physical destruction, human casualties, and profound socio-economic repercussions. Consequently, targeted educational initiatives are essential to enhance community resilience and preparedness. Among various approaches, simulation-based training stands out as an effective strategy, offering participants hands-on experience in managing emergency scenarios. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of simulation-based education on earthquake disaster preparedness among adolescents.Employing a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group approach, the research involved 45 participants in the intervention group and 45 in the control group. Data analysis utilized the Wilcoxon signed-rank test for within-group comparisons and the Mann-Whitney U test for between-group differences, with statistical significance set at p < 0.05. The Mann-Whitney U test on pre-intervention data yielded a p-value of 0.267 (p > 0.05), indicating no significant difference in baseline earthquake preparedness between the groups. In contrast, post-intervention analysis revealed a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), demonstrating a statistically significant divergence in preparedness levels between the intervention and control groups. These findings suggest that simulation-based education positively influences earthquake preparedness among adolescents at SMP Negeri 7 Palu. It is anticipated that such interventions will bolster students' knowledge, attitudes, and practical behaviors toward earthquake mitigation, thereby improving their capacity for self-rescue during seismic events.

Abstract

Poverty in Jember Regency remains a serious issue, with many people lacking access to resources and economic opportunities. Based on principles of justice and ethical financing, sharia economics offers a promising solution to address this challenge. This study aims to analyze the potential and challenges of sharia-based economic institutions in reducing poverty in Jember Regency. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, the research explored sharia economic models, such as Islamic microfinance institutions, sharia cooperatives, and productive zakat programs, through interviews with 18 informants, observations, and document analysis. The findings show that these institutions empower poor communities by providing microfinance, supporting small businesses, and promoting fair wealth distribution. However, low financial literacy, weak institutional systems, and limited government coordination hinder their effectiveness. The study concludes that strengthening sharia institutions, improving community education, and enhancing collaboration with local government can make sharia economics a sustainable tool for poverty alleviation. Islamic boarding schools, with their strong community ties, play a key role in this process but need better funding and digital tools to expand their impact.

Abstract

The relocation of Indonesia’s capital city from Jakarta to Nusantara (IKN) has become a topic that generates various public reactions. These opinions are largely expressed through the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), making it an important data source for analyzing public sentiment. This study aims to apply the Naïve Bayes Classifier method to analyze public sentiment toward the relocation of IKN and to evaluate its accuracy using a Confusion Matrix. The data were collected through a web crawling process on the X platform using the keyword "ikn", resulting in 1,002 relevant tweets. The data were then processed through preprocessing stages using Python, including lowercasing, punctuation removal, tokenizing, stopword removal, stemming, and TF-IDF value calculation to form features. After augmentation, the number of data increased to 1,324, which was divided into 75% training data and 25% testing data. Sentiment classification was performed using the Naïve Bayes Classifier algorithm, and testing was conducted using the black-box method to ensure system functionality according to the design. Model performance evaluation using a Confusion Matrix produced an accuracy of 92.47%, precision of 93.03%, recall of 92.47%, and F1-score of 92.45%. The web-based system developed in this study is expected to help the government understand public opinion and develop more effective communication strategies related to the IKN relocation policy.

Abstract

Abstract

This article examines the fifth fiqh maxim, al-‘adah muhakkamah (custom is authoritative), focusing on its operationalization as a legitimate basis for the application and determination of Islamic law. Through a socio-legal case study of the Kenyah indigenous community in Pampang Village, Samarinda, East Kalimantan, this research demonstrates how local adat, particularly in marriage and divorce  functions not only as cultural practice but as a valid legal source when aligned with Qur’an, Sunnah, and maqashid al-shariah. Employing empirical legal methodology, including field interviews with customary leaders and analysis of East Kalimantan Regional Regulation No. 1/2015, findings reveal that adat enriches Islamic jurisprudence by contextualizing its application, ensuring social harmony, and preserving cultural identity. This study affirms that adat, when fulfilling juristic conditions, is not merely tolerated but actively integrated into Islamic legal frameworks  proving Islam’s adaptability as a living, contextual, and universal legal system.   Keywords: custom, fiqh maxim, , Islamic law, legal determination, maqashid shariah, Kenyah adat, socio-legal integration

Abstract

School entrepreneurship has become a strategic indicator of vocational education performance in responding to global economic changes driven by digitalization, technological innovation, and the growth of the creative economy. Vocational High Schools (SMKs) are no longer expected merely to produce job-ready graduates, but also to develop institutional entrepreneurial capacity that is innovative, adaptive, and sustainable. A quantitative approach was employed using an explanatory research design. Data were collected through structured questionnaires and analyzed using Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The results of the literature review and conceptual synthesis indicate that teacher innovativeness plays a critical role in driving entrepreneurship-oriented learning, while community culture shapes the social ecosystem that supports the sustainability of school entrepreneurship. These effects become more substantial when mediated by digital intelligence, which enables the transformation of pedagogical innovation and cultural values into technology-based entrepreneurial practices. This article contributes theoretically by strengthening a digital mediation-based model of school entrepreneurship and provides practical implications for vocational school management and policy development within the perspective of Islamic Education Management.

Abstract

This study was conducted to assess the performance of the PNP Reservoir in managing water resources as well as reducing flood risk in the Batu Busuk Sub-watershed, which is located in the upstream part of the Kuranji watershed, Padang City. The uniqueness of this study lies in the comprehensive approach that combines IDF analysis with three methods (Talbot, Sherman, and Ishiguro), flood discharge estimation through the Rational and Nakayasu SUH methods, and modeling of reservoir inflows and outflows using the Muskingum flood routing method. Based on the results of the IDF analysis, the highest rain intensity during the two-hour duration was recorded at 27.22 mm/hour (Talbot), 24.67 mm/hour (Sherman), and 23.49 mm/hour (Ishiguro). Before the reservoir was constructed, the peak flood discharge reached 0.33 m³/sec at 0.35 hours. The simulation results showed that the reservoir was able to reduce the peak discharge by 0.57% and caused a delay in the peak flow of 0.6 minutes. This finding shows that the PNP reservoir contributes positively to flood control, although the efficiency of the reduction is still limited. Overall, the results of this study can serve as an important reference in the design of adaptive reservoirs in areas characterized by steep topography and high rainfall, and emphasize the role of reservoirs as part of sustainable flood mitigation infrastructure in tropical urban areas.
