Abstract

This study investigates the digital literacy attitudes of seventh-semester EFL pre-service teachers at one Muhammadiyah University in West Java, focusing on their experiences, challenges, and needs in utilizing digital tools for instructional purposes. While digital literacy is increasingly recognized as a crucial skill in modern education, many pre-service teachers face significant obstacles, including limited technical proficiency, difficulty in accessing credible online resources, and a lack of understanding of ethical considerations in digital content creation. Employing a qualitative approach through open-ended questionnaires and semi-structured interviews, this research explores participants’ perspectives on using digital tools such as Canva and Wordwall in developing learning media. The findings reveal that although pre-service teachers are enthusiastic about incorporating technology into their teaching practices, technical difficulties and ethical concerns often hinder their efforts. Participants emphasized the need for more practical training, hands-on workshops, and ethical guidelines to enhance their digital literacy competencies. The study highlights the importance of integrating structured digital literacy training into teacher education programs, ensuring that future educators are well-equipped to design engaging and pedagogically sound instructional media. Addressing these challenges will ultimately contribute to improving the quality of EFL teaching and fostering a more technology-integrated learning environment.

Abstract

The growing global demand for English proficiency has coincided with the increasing importance of technological literacy, accelerating the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in education. This study investigates the effectiveness of ELSA Speak, an AI-powered language learning application, in enhancing students’ speaking proficiency. A quasi-experimental mixed-method approach was employed, involving both an experimental and a control group. The research was conducted at Universitas Bina Sarana Informatika, where only two classes were available, prompting the use of convenience sampling to select participants based on availability and willingness. The sample included 35 students from class 33.1A.07 (experimental group) and 36 students from class 33.1B.07 (control group). Quantitative data were collected through oral pre-tests and post-tests and analyzed using t-tests in SPSS version 25. Qualitative data from in-depth interviews provided insights into how features such as structured levels and personalized feedback influenced students’ speaking development. Results showed that the control group’s scores increased from 58.78 to 65.81, while the experimental group’s scores rose from 61.43 to 75.03. Statistical analysis revealed a significance level (2-tailed) of <0.05, leading to the rejection of the null hypothesis and acceptance of the alternative. The findings indicate that ELSA Speak significantly enhanced students’ speaking proficiency in grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, fluency, and content. The study concludes that integrating AI-based tools like ELSA Speak into university curricula offers a practical solution for improving language skills, especially in institutions with limited resources and instructional time

Abstract

English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learning is heavily impacted by the development of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies—especially ChatGPT. Reviewing 15 papers acquired using the Publish or Perish application, this paper offers a literature review with an emphasis on EFL students' impressions and experiences utilising ChatGPT as a writing tool. The findings expose different student impressions of their experiences using ChatGPT to create writing projects. Generally speaking, students view ChatGPT as a useful and versatile tool in boosting writing quality, enriching vocabulary, strengthening sentence structure, and offering instantaneous feedback supporting autonomous learning. The difficulties that surface, though, are technological reliance, a loss in critical thinking ability, plagiarism worries, poor digital literacy, and ethical standards. This paper also underlines the instructor's need to manage the use of artificial intelligence to keep the learning process ethical and meaningful. The outcomes of this study should provide the basis for developing flexible language learning plans fit for technological developments.

Abstract

This article explores the ethical values within the Islamic tradition as a meaningful response to the contemporary global moral crisis, which permeates various dimensions of modern human life. Employing a qualitative-critical approach through library research, this study delves into classical and contemporary Islamic ethical texts, particularly the works of seminal thinkers such as Al-Ghazali, Ibn Miskawayh, and Al-Raghib Al-Isfahani. The findings reveal that Islamic ethics are not solely anchored in the normative framework of Shari'a, but also encompass profound spiritual dimensions and universal moral consciousness. Core values such as honesty (ṣidq), justice (ʿadl), trustworthiness, and compassion (raḥmah) are demonstrated to retain enduring relevance across diverse contemporary global contextsranging from politics and economics to intercultural relations. The article advocates for a dynamic reinterpretation of these transhistorical ethical principles to address pressing modern issues such as rampant individualism, systemic corruption, and the erosion of empathy. The study's implications extend beyond the field of Islamic studies, contributing to a broader, inclusive global ethical discourse grounded in religious moral traditions. Ultimately, the article calls for a revitalization of Islamic ethical values in education, public policy, and societal life to help shape a more just, compassionate, and spiritually enriched world.

Abstract

The integration of Information Technology (IT) into language instruction has transformed traditional teaching methodologies by providing learners with more interactive, personalized, and accessible learning experiences. This study examines the impact of IT tools, such as Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) and Mobile-Assisted Language Learning (MALL), on language acquisition, learner engagement, and motivation. A systematic review of 25 studies published between 2015 and 2025 was conducted to explore the use of these tools in language education. The findings suggest that IT-based tools significantly enhance learners' vocabulary acquisition, listening comprehension, and speaking proficiency. Mobile applications and online platforms foster greater learner engagement through gamification, immediate feedback, and self-paced learning opportunities. However, the study also highlights challenges such as technological limitations, the need for instructor training, and concerns about over-reliance on digital tools. While IT tools provide valuable support in language learning, a balanced approach that combines traditional methods with technology is recommended to optimize educational outcomes. These findings contribute to understanding the potential of IT in language instruction and suggest directions for future research on improving the integration of technology in educational contexts.
