Abstract

Healthy food knowledge among early childhood in Indonesia remains low, as children tend to reject vegetables and fruits while preferring snacks and sweetened drinks. This study aims to develop the traditional game Dampu Sehat Bergizi (SEGI) as an innovative learning medium to improve children’s understanding of healthy food. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model, limited to the development stage, and was tested on 15 children aged 5–6 years at TK Larasati, South Jakarta. Data were collected through observation, teacher interviews, expert validation (nutrition, early childhood education, and media experts), and a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design. Validation results indicated an average score of 90.2% categorized as “highly feasible.” Effectiveness testing showed a significant improvement, with the average knowledge score increasing from 86% (“adequate”) to 94% (“highly feasible”) after using the SEGI game. Children demonstrated high enthusiasm, active participation, and improved ability to identify healthy food categories. These findings confirm that the SEGI traditional game is effective in enhancing early childhood nutrition literacy through engaging, interactive, and culturally relevant learning experiences.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of the Inquiry Learning model in improving early childhood communication skills at PAUD YPJ Tembagapura, an institution with multilingual and multicultural characteristics. The research problem arises from the teachers’ challenge in fostering active interaction among children with diverse linguistic backgrounds. This research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and documentation involving teachers, principals, and parents. Thematic analysis was applied to identify communication strategies and patterns of language development among children. The findings reveal that Inquiry Learning plays a crucial role in fostering children’s active, critical, and collaborative communication. Stimulating questions and exploratory activities enhance children’s curiosity, while the use of concrete media and the natural environment strengthens verbal engagement. Teachers act as active facilitators who guide children to speak, listen, and respond to peers’ ideas confidently. Inclusive strategies also help quiet children participate actively in classroom discussions. Overall, the Inquiry Learning model effectively builds children’s confidence and communication skills, making it a relevant pedagogical approach for multicultural early childhood education settings in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study explores the role of parents in fostering children’s independence through toilet training in early childhood education programs. The research aims to analyze how parental involvement, collaboration with teachers, and environmental factors influence the success of toilet training among children aged 4–6 years. A qualitative descriptive method was used, involving in-depth interviews, classroom observations, and documentation at several PAUD institutions in Bekasi. Data were analyzed through thematic coding and triangulation to ensure validity. The findings reveal four major themes: (1) daily routines and consistency in toilet training help children develop self-control and autonomy; (2) collaboration between parents and teachers strengthens consistency of practices across home and school; (3) supportive physical environments and emotional encouragement significantly enhance children’s readiness; and (4) successful toilet training contributes to broader aspects of independence, confidence, and social interaction. The study also identifies inhibiting factors such as inadequate facilities, differing home–school routines, and limited teacher–child ratios. These findings align with Erikson’s psychosocial theory of autonomy versus shame and doubt and Bronfenbrenner’s ecological systems theory, which emphasize the role of consistent microsystem interactions in early development. The study concludes that successful toilet training is not merely a physical skill but a foundational process in building children’s autonomy and emotional regulation. The implications suggest that early childhood institutions should integrate toilet training into their independence curriculum, strengthen parent–teacher collaboration, and ensure child-friendly facilities.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a Model for Assessment, Intervention, and Monitoring of Language Development for Children with Speech Delay (MAP-ASD) in West Jakarta. The high prevalence of speech delay (23.3%) and the lack of context-appropriate assessment instruments (87.5% of PAUDs do not have specific instruments) are the basis for the urgency of this research. Using the 4D model development approach (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate), the study involved 15 children with speech delay and 15 PAUD teachers. Validation was carried out by three experts in the fields of child developmental psychology, learning assessment, and speech therapy. The results showed that the MAP-ASD has very good validity (CVI 0.97), high reliability (Kappa 0.77; ICC 0.81), and very good practicality (T-Score 67.7). Effectiveness testing demonstrated significant improvements in children's language skills following MAP-ASD-based intervention, with an average increase of 5 points (22.7%), highest in semantics (6 points) and lowest in syntax and pragmatics (4 points). Mild speech delay cases demonstrated the best response (26.9% improvement), while severe cases continued to show significant progress (20.0%). This model integrates a multilingual approach tailored to the West Jakarta context and links assessments with specific intervention recommendations. MAP-ASD significantly contributes to filling the gap in contextual assessment tools for speech delay in Indonesia, enabling early identification and appropriate interventions that improve the quality of inclusive education at the early childhood education (ECE) level
