Abstract

Early childhood numeracy literacy in Indonesia still faces significant challenges due to the dominance of conventional approaches, resulting in low student engagement. This study positions interactive video-based learning media as an innovative solution to enrich numeracy practices in early childhood education. The purpose of this research is to develop the interactive learning video “PIANGPO” (Smart Numbers and Patterns), assess its feasibility, and test its effectiveness in improving numeracy skills among young children. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model, limited to the development stage, involving 45 children in group B (ages 5–6) at TK Al Husna, South Jakarta. Data collection instruments. included observation sheets, expert validation questionnaires, and numeracy assessment sheets, analyzed descriptively using qualitative and quantitative approaches. The results showed that the “PIANGPO” video was highly feasible, with an average expert validation score of 4 on a 1–5 scale. Its effectiveness was demonstrated by a significant improvement in children’s numeracy scores, from 2.26 (Beginning to Develop) to 3.46 (Developing as Expected), and an increase in engagement levels from 74% to 92%. Therefore, “PIANGPO” is proven feasible and effective as an innovative medium to enhance early childhood numeracy literacy.

Abstract

Preschool education represents an essential foundation for the development of children’s mathematical literacy and problem-solving skills, which are critical for daily life and future learning. This study aims to analyze teachers’ perceptions of the use of Project-Based Learning in strengthening mathematical literacy and problem-solving skills among preschool children. A quantitative approach was employed by collecting data through a questionnaire distributed to early childhood educators via Google Forms. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS and presented in the form of tables and graphical visualizations to provide a systematic and measurable overview of teachers’ responses. The findings indicate that, based on teachers’ perceptions, Project-Based Learning is perceived to enhance children’s engagement, understanding of mathematical concepts, and enthusiasm for learning, which in turn supports the development of their problem-solving skills. These results suggest that Project-Based Learning is viewed by teachers as a relevant and effective pedagogical approach for early childhood education, provided that it is supported by appropriate teacher guidance, well-designed projects, and learning environments that are aligned with children’s developmental levels.

Abstract

The decline in positive character values among young children indicates a gap in the availability of engaging and culturally rooted learning media for character education. This study aims to develop a storybook based on Gurindam Dua Belas as an innovative medium to instill character values in early learners. The research employed a mixed-method approach with a Research and Development (RD) design following the 4D model (Define, Design, Development, Dissemination). The study involved 33 kindergarten level B students from three educational institutions in Tanjunguban, along with three teachers, one principal and four parents. Data were collected through structured interviews and observation sheets. Expert validation rated the product as “good” (media 80%, language 70%, material 80%). The storybook “Gurindam Cilik: Panca Indera Ajaibku” significantly improved children’s character scores, with the average increasing from 421.85 (pre-test) to 623.20 (post-test). A paired sample t-test confirmed the improvement as statistically significant (p = 0.037), representing a 47.7% increase. This study contributes an alternative learning medium that enables educators to instill positive character values from an early age through the integration of local cultural heritage enriched with moral lessons.

Abstract

Learning practices in early childhood education have not yet optimally integrated science, mathematics, art, religious values, and technology into a unified instructional model. This study aims to develop and examine the effectiveness of the SMART learning model (Science, Math, Art, Religion, and Technology) in early childhood education. Using a research and development (R&D) approach, the study integrated quantitative and qualitative data and involved early childhood learners as research participants. The model was developed through the ADDIE framework and validated by early childhood education experts, classroom teachers, and religious education specialists. The findings indicate that the SMART learning model is more effective than conventional lecture-based learning in enhancing children’s competencies across science, mathematics, art, religion, and technology. Overall, the study demonstrates that the SMART learning model provides an integrative, child-centered approach that supports holistic learning outcomes and aligns with early childhood developmental characteristics.

Abstract

In today's era of digital transformation and artificial intelligence, executive function skills and adaptive character are crucial competencies for students to face complex future challenges. Teaching that integrates interactive media based on smart technology with a spiritual values approach is seen as an effective and creative strategy to cultivate these skills from an early age. Although previous research has focused on basic digital literacy, evaluation of the impact of teaching that combines cognitive and spiritual aspects holistically is still limited. This study aims to develop and test the effectiveness of an instructional system based on the AEWake model through a smart puzzle barcode hijaiyah media designed to stimulate executive function while instilling an Islamic Growth Mindset. Using a Research and Development (R&D) method with an adapted development model, the study involved 90 early childhood children as test subjects. Data collection techniques were carried out through structured observations based on the AEWake instrument and digital documentation, which were then analyzed using inferential statistics to measure the media's effectiveness. The results showed that the use of this instructional media had a significant positive impact on improving children's directed attention, self-control, and cognitive flexibility. The findings revealed that digital scaffolding through interactive content was a key variable influencing learning success, while the use of recycled materials was shown to increase sensory comfort without reducing the effectiveness of the technology. It is concluded that the integration of AI-enabled technology and Islamic values is able to support sustainable cognitive and character development in the PAUD environment.
