Abstract

Films often represent masculinity as a social construction shaped and legitimized by state power. This study examines how the state produces and regulates various forms of masculinity in the film Seperti Dendam, Rindu Harus Dibayar Tuntas. Rather than portraying masculinity as a single and stable identity, the film challenges state-supported hegemonic masculinity by presenting masculine identities as diverse, fluid, and continuously negotiated within particular socio-political contexts. This research employs a multimodal discourse analysis approach to explore the relationship between state authority, gender ideology, and cinematic representation. The findings indicate that the state reinforces hegemonic masculinity through regulatory practices that reproduce patriarchal values and maintain social hierarchies. At the same time, the film opens spaces of resistance, especially for heterosexual men who do not fully conform to dominant masculine norms, enabling them to renegotiate their social position within the masculine order. Although the film was produced during the Reformasi era while narratively set in the Orde Baru period, it reflects a transitional moment in which masculinity is increasingly understood as contested and unstable. The boundaries of masculinity become more flexible, allowing the emergence of new forms of gender negotiation. This study demonstrates that cinema can critically interrogate state-constructed models of masculinity while offering alternative interpretations of masculine identity in post–Orde Baru Indonesian film.

Abstract

In EFL learning, collaborative writing is the joint production of a text in which two or more learners actively contribute to planning, drafting, and revising a shared written product. In multicultural settings such as Indonesia, integrating local cultural content is assumed to enhance engagement and collaboration; however, its effect on learners’ collaborative writing performance within the Sasak cultural context remains underexplored. This study examined the impact of embedding local cultural content into writing instruction on EFL students’ collaborative writing performance. Employing an explanatory sequential mixed-methods design, quantitative data were collected from 134 students in the Department of Computer Science at Bumigora University, and 20 students were purposively selected for semi-structured interviews to provide qualitative insights. Quantitative analyses indicated significant improvement in writing performance, with mean scores increasing from 66.62 to 72.01 (p < .05) and a strong positive correlation between pre- and post-test scores (r = .736, p < .05). The effect size, Cohen’s d = 0.84, confirmed a large improvement. Qualitative findings revealed that cultural familiarity strengthened group engagement, boosted identity-based confidence, and facilitated idea generation. Students reported that working with culturally familiar themes encouraged inclusive participation, reduced communication anxiety, and increased motivation. These findings suggest that integrating local cultural content enhances both language development and collaborative processes. Two key implications emerge: (1) Curriculum designers should incorporate localized cultural materials to increase contextual relevance, and (2) Teachers should design collaborative activities leveraging learners’ cultural knowledge to foster richer interaction, lower participation barriers, and improve overall learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the implementation of Project-Based Learning (PjBL) in improving students’ skills at SMK Negeri 1 Tangerang. This approach is considered relevant for vocational education as it seeks to produce graduates with strong practical skills, problem-solving abilities, and high workplace readiness. The study employs a qualitative descriptive method through observations, interviews, and document analysis. The findings indicate that the application of PjBL significantly fosters active student participation, enhances creativity, and strengthens collaboration in completing project-based tasks. Furthermore, PjBL supports students in mastering vocational competencies more effectively, as they are directly involved in the planning, execution, and evaluation of the project. However, several challenges were identified, including limited facilities, relatively short instructional time, and variations in students’ abilities that influence the overall effectiveness of the learning process. Overall, the implementation of PjBL proves to be an effective instructional strategy in enhancing students’ skills at SMK Negeri 1 Tangerang.

Abstract

The erosion of students’ moral values in the digital era has emerged as a critical challenge for Islamic secondary education, particularly in pesantren-based schools. Moral health, characterized by discipline, responsibility, honesty, and empathy, represents a crucial dimension of health behavior that supports a safe and conducive learning environment. Traditional supervision and religious habituation, while valuable, have proven insufficient to counter external negative influences without complementary approaches. This study aims to explore how the integration of pesantren-based religious values with Technology-assisted monitoring (IoT-Digital-Based Monitoring) can promote health behavior and strengthen moral health among students in Islamic schools. Using a qualitative case study design, research was conducted at Muhammadiyah Senior High School, Kasihan, Bantul, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and school document analysis, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model with triangulation techniques. Findings indicate that the IoT-Digital-Based Monitoring significantly enhances students’ health behavior through improved discipline, responsibility, honesty, and empathy. The integration fosters a safer and more supportive school environment, reinforces moral norms, and facilitates behavioral self-awareness. Teachers and students reported positive perceptions of this synergy, with technology complementing traditional religious instruction. The Technology-assisted monitoring model offers an innovative intervention strategy for promoting moral health as part of broader health promotion efforts in Islamic schools. By combining formal technological control with informal religious guidance, this approach aligns with health promotion frameworks while preserving Islamic educational values. Broader adoption of such integrative strategies is recommended to adapt character education to the demands of the digital era.

Abstract

The development of fashion trends in the modern era has caused considerable changes in people's clothing styles, including among students. Students in Islamic universities not only follow the development of popular fashion, but are also faced with the demand to maintain the principle of dressing in accordance with Islamic values. This research aims to analyze fashion trends on the dress patterns of female students of the Faculty of Islamic Religion, Ahmad Dahlan University and understand how female students interpret the concept of dressing according to shari'a in daily life in the campus environment. This study uses a qualitative approach with the research subject, namely a student of the Faculty of Islamic Religion, Ahmad Dahlan University. Data collection techniques are carried out through interviews, observations, and documentation, while data analysis is carried out through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawn. The results of the study show that fashion trends have a significant cause for the dress patterns of female students, especially through the role of social media which is a source of reference for clothing styles. However, most of the female students still try to adapt their style of dress to the principles of sharia dress in accordance with the values of modesty in Islam.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Berirama (Worship Diligently and Breakfast Together) habituation program at Kasongan State Elementary School, Bantul, Yogyakarta. This research employed a qualitative approach using a case study design. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving the principal, teachers, students, and parents. The findings indicate that the Berirama program is implemented systematically, in a structured and sustainable manner through congregational Dhuha prayers, dhikr, Qur’an recitation, and breakfast activities conducted before the learning process begins. The program has evolved beyond a school routine into a process of character building through religious habituation and healthy lifestyle practices. Muslim students participate in congregational worship activities, while non-Muslim students receive spiritual guidance according to their beliefs. The implementation is supported by school policies, teachers’ involvement, and active parental participation. This program contributes to establishing a disciplined school culture, improving students’ learning readiness, and shaping sustainable character development through an integrated model combining spiritual, social, and health dimensions.
