Abstract

Indonesia has witnessed a rise in radical ideologies that threaten unity, promote intolerance, and incite violence, as radicalism become more complex and adaptive. In response, the Ministry of Religious Affairs undertaken various counter-radicalization initiatives, notably through the Tafsir al-Quran Tematik publication. Among many themes addressed, the most notably ideas are jihad and statehood. This article explores the construction of counter-radical discourse by MoRA through this institutional tafsir, analyzing its function as a state instrument. Employing qualitative methods and Foucault’s power relations theory, the study integrates data from interviews with the tafsir’s authors, reader surveys, content analysis, and archival review. The findings reveal that Tafsir al-Quran Tematik defines jihad as a defensive act. It presents jihad as non-violent efforts like seeking knowledge and defending faith ethically. It emphasizes that jihad must follow moral guidelines rooted in the Prophet’s example. Additionally, the tafsir affirms that Islam does not mandate a specific government form, like caliphate, and supports the compatibility of the Indonesian state with Islamic principles. Drawing on Foucault’s theory, the state uses this tafsir to influence shaping religious discourse to legitimize national unity, promote moderate Islam, and delegitimize radical ideology. While promoting religious moderation, this state-endorsed tafsir centralizes interpretive authority under state auspices, potentially marginalizing individual Quranic interpreters. By positioning state-sponsored exegesis as the normative reference, the initiative risks undermining the pluralism and independence traditionally valued in Islamic scholarship. This study contributes to the discourse on state-religion dynamics, institutional authority, and the politics of religious interpretation in contemporary Indonesia.

Abstract

This article explores the ideological negotiations involved in the establishment process of the Al-Qur’an and Terjemahnyo: Bahaso Melayu Jambi (QTBMJ), a Qur’anic translation project supported by the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs. This study investigates how the process of vernacularizing the Qur’an into Jambi Malay reflects the interaction between state ideology, translator agency, and local cultural values. Utilizing Michel Foucault’s framework of power relations combined with a descriptive-analytical method, this study focuses on examining the archival documents, interview reports, and content analysis related to QTBMJ. It was found that the word choice of Qur’anic vocabulary in QTBMJ is not considered a neutral linguistic act but rather a result of negotiation process between religious, political, and social ideologies. Another concern is due to translation choices concerning gender-sensitive terms (e.g., qawwamun, al-nisā’, nafs wahidah) and how these reflect the broader shifts in religious and gender discourse in Indonesia. This article argues that the translation of the Qur’an into a local language is a complex process that involved dynamic interaction between state authority, translator subjectivity, and moral tradition of the local community. This study will contribute to the growing literature on Vernacular Islam, Qur’anic Translation, and The Language of Political Religious in Southeast Asia.

Abstract

Poor road infrastructure conditions have a significant impact on transportation efficiency, user safety, and logistics costs, especially in areas with tropical climates and heavy vehicle traffic such as in West Java. This study aims to evaluate the condition of road pavement on the Jangga–Cikamurang Road section in Indramayu Regency using the Pavement Condition Index (PCI) method. The survey was conducted visually along 1 kilometer of road, which was divided into 10 segments of 100 meters each. Observations included identification of the type of damage, severity, and extent of damage in each segment. The results of the study showed that the most dominant types of damage were alligator cracking (42.47%) and depression (33.63%) with high severity. The PCI values obtained varied between 6 and 78, with 60% of segments categorized as poor to failed, and only 10% in satisfactory condition. These findings indicate that most road sections are in unserviceable conditions and require structural handling. Based on the PCI value classification, reconstruction actions are recommended for segments with PCI < 55, overlay and structural maintenance for PCI 55–70, and preventive maintenance for PCI > 70. This study confirms the importance of implementing PCI as a technical decision-making tool in sustainable road maintenance planning.

Abstract

The banking world in terms of providing credit to customers is a regular activity that has a large effect. In its application, non-performing loans or bad loans are often created due to poor credit analysis in the credit granting process, or from bad customers. The purpose of this study is to compare the results of algorithm accuracy between K-Nearest Neighbor (K-NN), Decision Tree, and Naive Bayes which results in the best accuracy will be implemented to determine creditworthiness. The attributes used in this study consisted of 11 attributes, namely marital status, number of dependents, age, last education, occupation, monthly income, home ownership, collateral, loan amount, length of loan and information as result attributes. The methods used in this research are K-Nearest Neighbor, Decision Tree, and Naive Bayes. From the results of evaluation and validation using k-5 fold that has been carried out using RapidMiner tools, the highest accuracy results from a comparison of 3 algorithms is using a decision tree (C4.5) of 98% in the 3rd test.

Abstract

Abstract

The attitude of religious moderation is in the form of acknowledging the existence of other parties, being tolerant, respecting differences of opinion, and not imposing his will to use violence. This must be ingrained in the millennial generation of multicultural societies that share many traits. Diversity includes differences in culture, religion, race, language, ethnicity, tradition, etc. For example, in a multicultural society, tensions and conflicts between cultural groups often affect the harmony of life. This study explores religious moderation in the millennial generation from the perspective of Islamic education. This study uses the library research method in which the data comes from books, articles, and relevant scientific reports using the formulation of the problem. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive analysis techniques. This study shows that religious moderation is not religious moderation, but there must be moderation in attitudes toward diversity. From an Islamic education perspective, religious moderation is developed by starting from oneself, being instilled early, and setting an example for others. Of course, it is hoped that tasamuh, commitment, humanist, and wasatiyah education will become integrated, whole, and universal, all of which cannot be separated, mutually reinforcing, and mutually beneficial, as the best ummah and with broad scientific insight.
