Abstract

The primary objective of this study is to establish a fundamental framework for reflective thinking and practice in science education that can contribute to transformative learning worldwide. The study utilized the SPIDER inclusion criteria to select relevant articles from SCOPUS and WoS databases in March 2023, which included sample, phenomenon of interest, design, evaluation, and research type. The PRISMA framework was also used, which consisted of four steps: identification, screening, eligibility, and inclusion. In the end, the study analyzed 52 articles using Biblioshiny as a tool for analysis. The results indicated that Reflective Practice, International Journal of Science Education, and Education Sciences are the most commonly used sources for research on this topic. Turkey and the USA have shown the highest productivity in terms of research on reflective thinking. The frequency of the term "reflective thinking" has increased steadily over the years, indicating its growing significance in the field of education and research. Several teaching and assesment strategies can play a significant role in facilitating transformative learning by encouraging individuals to solve problems, communicate effectively, exhibit self-confidence, remain engaged, plan and collaborate with others.

Abstract

This research aims to implement questions through problem stimuli regarding hydro static pressure based on inquiry investigations. This research is limited to conducting experiments because the focus of the study is analyzing the cognitive abilities of the questions tested on 106 junior high school students. This study uses a quantitative exploratory method that aims to improve the understanding that students go through for their initial inquiry and perspective abilities during the science learning process. Data collection was carried out using a test instrument in the form of description questions whose inquiry indicators had been developed referring to the National Research Council (NRC) indicators, plus a questionnaire to identify students’ perceptions as a secondary data source. The results showed that all stages of inquiry activities had a low percentage of 50.0%. The involvement of students has yet to be able to ask investigative questions in formulating problems to be a significant start, as well as predicting in hypothesising. So it affects the activities of designing experiments and analysing data. This causes scientific reasoning to be challenging to communicate. In comparison, student interest in science learning is only around 51.2%. This proves that the inquiry process aspects are tied to one another, and the role of students must be maximally fully involved in every stage. Teacher and technology support needs to be harmonised to optimise further research.

Abstract

Prosedur umum program pelatihan guru terdiri dari Orientasi I, Refleksi I, Adaptasi, Perencanaan I, Pelaksanaan I, Evaluasi I, Refleksi II, Orientasi II, Perencanaan II, Pelaksanaan II, Aksi, Evaluasi II, dan Refleksi III.

Abstract

Abstract

There is increasing appreciation of the importance of using indigenous (traditional) knowledge for contextualizing school science instruction because it forms part of students’ prior experiences and source of information that they carry to school learning. The purpose of this study is to describe the physics teachers’ ability in planning and implementing cultural-based physics learning activities, and the relationship between the teachers’ ability in planning and implementing cultural-based physics learning. The research was a quantitative descriptive study that included 20 physics teachers in one of the regencies of Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) as the subject of the study. The instruments used for this study were the assessment rubrics for the physics lesson plan and peer teaching. The data were collected by doing observation and documentation of participatory education and training activities with cultural approach, analysed descriptively quantitatively, and presented in categories, percentages and diagrams. The average ability of physics teachers in designing the lesson plans of cultural-based physics in the following categories was quite good: 17 teachers (85%) were in the good category while 3 teachers (15%) were in very good category. The average presentation of the peer teaching appraisal results was in fairly good category, only 1 teacher (5%) was in the less good category, then 14 teachers (70%) were in good enough category, and then 4 teachers (25%) were in good categories. In general, the physics teachers had presented good performances, which mean the training activities had a positive effect on the physics teachers’ content and pedagogical knowledge. In education and training activities by integrating culture in physics learning activities responded very well, thus in every group discussion cycle, the teacher was able to identify the culture which was suitable to the content of existing material and implementing it in the peer teaching activities.

Abstract

Elementary school students do not yet have a scientific understanding of light. For example, they represent vision as the process of objects being hit by light and the eye being automatically able to see them. Their verbal and visual representations present irrelevance to scientific beliefs. Students need to understand science more comprehensively through multiple-representation learning. The relevant diagnostic tests are needed to find out student multiple-representation profiles. However, diagnostic tests identifying multiple-representation profiles of elementary school students are still rare. This paper aims to communicate the results of development, validity, and reliability, as well as trials of the five-tier diagnostic test (5TDT) in measuring multiple representations of elementary school students about light concepts. The 5TDT is a developed version of the four-tier where there are answer choices and reasons and the level of student confidence in answering both. A package of 15 questions was developed, tested for readability by elementary school teachers and students, and then piloted. Two hundred twenty-seven elementary school students who had studied the concept of light attempted this test. Internal validity was submitted to five experts and showed valid results with several improvement notes. Meanwhile, the results of statistical tests on external validity and reliability show that the five-tier diagnostic test is valid and reliable. The five-tier diagnostic test can measure the diversity of students' representation of their ideas regarding the light concept with more precision. It is shown that they are dominating the Lack of Representation (LOR) level of 39% and Misconception (MIS) level of 31%.

Abstract

The transition from analog television to digital is not the end of television evolution. People no longer consume traditional media as much as they did in the past, moreover audience members are more empowered than at any other time in media history. Audience members no longer just consume content—they can also make content in a multitude of ways, whether through blogging, podcasting, uploading videos, or social networking. The market became the determinant of the death of the media industry. This condition allows the industry to become “cannibal”. Media industry must be supported by strong capital for infrastructure, highly competitive human resources (professional for production and distribution) and professional management. The amount of advertising spend are affected. The growth of advertising spends in 2017 were positive but slowly, it decreased by 2%. Ad spending has a downward trend, in 2017 growth was only 8% compared to the previous year’s growth of 20%. The way Kompas discover this challenge by set a new strategy, known as economy media theory. Media economics referred to business operation and financial activities of companies that produce and sell their products to media industries.

Abstract

One of the exciting topics in the socio-scientific issue is cloning. This issue is seen as a debatable issue in religion and science. In the practice of science learning in class, Biology teachers are required to be able to present this topic proportionally. This research aims to study how the arguments of Biology teachers in Islamic organization-based senior high schools in Indonesia face the cloning issue of sacrificed animals. This research was conducted in three Islamic organization-based senior high schools. This research uses the qualitative method by observation process on the learning of cloning topic in the class, questionnaire, and an in-depth interview with Biology teachers of XII grade from the three different schools in Banten Province, Indonesia. Results of the research show that related to the cloning issue of sacrifice (Qurban) animals is not only related to the religious aspect; there is the existence of specific argumentation patterns in the mind of the teachers. The designs are presented in the frameworks of economic (Organization A), social humanity (Organization B), and knowledge (Organization C). These three frameworks of organization give the primary colors for each teacher's argumentation. Thus, further studies must explore the effects of Islamic organizations on the arguments and the practice of cloning topic teaching at Islamic organization-based senior high schools.

Abstract

One of the reasons why climate change is a contentious socioscientific topic is the swift advancement of research and technology. Based on sound judgment, controlling climate change becomes an urgent matter. This study intends to gain an overview of the factual circumstances of elementary school pupils' decision-making skills with reference to the subject of combating climate change. Descriptive quantitative research methodology is employed. The test is a multiple-choice test with 10 questions that were created using criteria for rational decision-making. 612 pupils at ten public elementary schools in the city of Bandung took the test offline. Descriptive statistics were used to assess the data and categorize it in accordance with the rationale for decision-making. The study's findings show that judgments about climate change are difficult for elementary school pupils to make. Most of their decisions are made using intuitive principles. This study has implications for the significance of discussing climate change with elementary school pupils and having them practice making critical decisions.
