Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of using a PhET-based virtual laboratory on students’ mastery of Newton’s Laws. The research is motivated by students’ low understanding of physics concepts, particularly the abstract nature of Newton’s Laws, which require effective experimental and visualization activities. Limited laboratory facilities at school hinder optimal learning; therefore, alternative instructional media such as PhET-based virtual laboratories are needed. This quantitative study employed a quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest control group design. The participants were two classes: an experimental class that used a PhET-based virtual laboratory and a control class that received conventional instruction. The instrument used was a concept mastery test on Newton’s Laws, administered before (pretest) and after instruction (posttest). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, hypothesis testing, and N-Gain calculations to measure improvement in students’ conceptual understanding. The results showed that students’ initial mastery of Newton’s Laws was in the low to moderate category. After instruction, both classes demonstrated improvement; however, the experimental class showed greater gains. The N-Gain score of the experimental class was 0.49 (moderate category), while the control class obtained 0.22 (low category). Hypothesis testing indicated a significant difference between the two groups. Thus, the use of a PhET-based virtual laboratory positively affects students’ mastery of Newton’s Laws at MAN 5 Batanghari.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the effect of the RADEC learning model (Read, Answer, Discuss, Explain, Create) on improving students’ critical thinking skills in static fluid material at SMAN 5 Sarolangun. A quasi-experimental method with a nonequivalent control group design was employed. The subjects consisted of an experimental class taught using the RADEC model and a control class taught using conventional learning. The instruments included an essay test of critical thinking skills based on Ennis’ indicators, observation sheets, and a student response questionnaire. Data were analyzed using the Mann–Whitney U test, N-Gain analysis, and effect size analysis. The results indicated that students in the experimental class achieved higher critical thinking skills than those in the control class. The N-Gain value of the experimental class was in the moderate category and higher than that of the control class, with an effect size of 0.82, indicating a large effect. In addition, students’ responses to the RADEC learning model were positive, with an average score of 73.96 in the good category. It can be concluded that the RADEC learning model has a positive and significant effect on improving students’ critical thinking skills in static fluid material at SMAN 5 Sarolangun.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the fact that the kinesthetic intelligence of elementary school students through dance extracurricular activities has not been developed optimally, as indicated by the students' difficulties in mastering dance movements. This study aims to (1) analyze the kinesthetic intelligence of students through dance extracurricular activities at Pondok 01 Public Elementary School and (2) describe the supporting and inhibiting factors in the implementation of these activities. This study uses a qualitative approach with research subjects being students in grades I to VI and dance instructors. Data collection was carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation. The data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that students' kinesthetic intelligence develops through indicators of body coordination, agility, strength, balance, and visual-motor coordination. Students are able to display more flexible, stable, and synchronous dance movements. Supporting factors include student enthusiasm, teacher and parental support, and opportunities to perform in school and community activities. Inhibiting factors include limited facilities and infrastructure, practice schedules that clash with academic activities, and differences in ability levels among students. Therefore, extracurricular dance activities play a strategic role in developing elementary school students' kinesthetic intelligence if managed optimally.

Abstract

The ability of pre-service English teachers to create high-quality, contextually appropriate instructional materials is a critical component of effective pedagogy. This study provides a quantitative and analytical assessment of their proficiency in instructional design. By evaluating 28 material packages developed by pre-service teachers, this study identifies their strengths and remaining challenges in implementing modern pedagogical principles. A panel of ten subject experts evaluated the materials using a validated rubric assessing curriculum alignment, relevance, higher-order thinking skills (HOTS), and 21st-century skills. The results revealed variation in design competencies, with pre-service teachers performing best in foundational areas such as curriculum alignment (mean score 7.875) and pedagogy (mean scores for Suitability and 21st-century skills were 7.679 and 7.357, respectively). However, the study also found challenges in applying advanced pedagogical concepts, such as HOTS, Industry 4.0, and Society 5.0, with mean scores of 7.000, 7.000, and 6.964, respectively. These findings suggest an area for further strengthening in teacher education programs, particularly in supporting the integration of complex, abstract concepts like HOTS and contemporary pedagogical frameworks. Without sufficient preparation in these areas, pre-service teachers may find it challenging to apply these concepts effectively in their instructional practice.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze tahfiz teachers' strategies for increasing students' interest in Qur'an memorization at the MTs level in Darul Haq Islamic Boarding School, Jambi. A descriptive qualitative approach with a field research design was employed. Data were collected through participatory observation, semi-structured in-depth interviews, and document analysis, then processed using Miles & Huberman's interactive model. Findings reveal that effective tahfiz teacher strategies synergistically combine three approaches: an affective approach through personal motivation and emotional reinforcement, a spiritual approach through internalization of worship values and teacher role modeling, and a technical-methodical approach through the application of talaqqi, tikrar, tasmi', and muraja'ah methods. A religious boarding school environment and peer group support serve as the main facilitating factors, while dense schedules, methodological monotony, limited facilities, and disproportionate teacher-student ratios are the primary barriers. Recommendations include optimizing time management, diversifying instructional methods, improving teacher training, and strengthening family involvement in students' memorization process.
