Abstract

This study aims to identify the need for teaching materials loaded with local wisdom in learning Arabic reading skills in universities, with a focus on the Arabic Language Education Department at IAIN Bone. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach, with data collected through analysis of student profiles and characteristics, student reading preferences, observation of teaching materials used, analysis of the vision and mission of the institution, and interviews with Arabic lecturers. The results of the study show that the teaching materials used today do not fully reflect local cultural values, even though they are in accordance with students' reading preferences. Bugis folklore and legends, such as Sijello To Mampu, Putri Tadampali, and La Mellong, have great potential to be integrated into teaching materials because they contain moral messages and character values that are relevant to educational needs. In addition, the vision and mission of IAIN Bone which emphasizes local wisdom supports the importance of developing contextual and culture-based teaching materials. This study emphasizes the need to develop teaching materials that are not only interesting and relevant academically but also loaded with local wisdom to support cultural preservation and the formation of student identity. The recommendations given include the preparation of learning modules based on Bugis folklore and the use of technology to document and disseminate teaching materials.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the characteristics, supporting factors, inhibitory factors and its implications in improving students' speaking competence at the Al Amien Prenduan Islamic Boarding.  The research is conducted using a qualitative approach through data collection methods that include interviews, observations, and discussion groups. The study subjects consist of active students who participate in debate activities and mentors or related teachers. Data were analyzed using NVivo software to perform coding and thematic analysis, which allows for the identification of main themes and sub-themes related to the implementation of the debate program. The research results show that the characteristics of the debate program include the use of Standard Arabic, the active role of mentors, and the structuring of ethically stimulating debate discussions. Supporting factors include teacher support, adequate facilities, and motivation from fellow students. On the other hand, inhibitory factors encompass limitations in preparation time, disturbances from the surrounding environment, and obstacles related to the complexity of the language. The analysis using NVivo reinforces the findings that active student involvement in debate not only enhances speaking skills but also strengthens confidence and ethical conduct during discussions. The implications of this program include the enhancement of communication, effective oral communication skills, and the formation of character-responsive students who engage in ethical speaking. Abstract

This study aims to reveal Hiwar learning with YouTube media and its implementation in a project-based learning model. Arabic language learning activities in higher education cannot separate from using various media, including social media. YouTube is one of the largest platforms in the world, which is present in learning. In improving Arabic speaking skills, YouTube is a learning medium by presenting audio and video from Arabic origins. Also, involving students in language projects leads them to acquire speaking skills. This study used a qualitative approach with an exploratory case study method. The researcher carried out data collection through observation, interviews and documentation. The sampling technique used is the purposive sampling technique. The study results show that teaching human life in higher education uses YouTube as a learning medium. From this media, it can be found that audio and video of Arabic identity influenced student conversation skills. Students also get a variety of new vocabulary related to their daily activities. Another finding in hiwar learning is that the lecturer uses a project- based learning model in the form of Arabic-language masrahiyah in class. Before presenting masrahiyah, students choose a theme and produce a narrative text for masrahiyah.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the contents of the tenth-grade Arabic textbook by Hasan Saefullah based on the 2008 Ministry of National Education standards and Ahmad Thu'aimah. The research method used is a literature study using qualitative method with descriptive content analysis techniques. The results of this study indicate that this book generally has complied with the principles of compiling the 2008 Ministry of National Education standard teaching materials. It is aligned with the principles of consistency, relevancy, and adequacy, which have been contained in competency standards and basic competencies in learning objectives. However, on the gradation principle, there is a discrepancy in the material contained in the teaching material preparation, such as the receptive and expressive language mastery section. The author places the mastery of reading skills after listening skills and grammatical mastery before speaking skills. It violates the order of language learning in general because the sequence of language learning starts from maharah istima', then maharah kalam, maharah qiroah, and finally maharah kitaba. Meanwhile, Thu'aimah standards, which includes the principles of validity, meaningfulness, and feasibility, have also been applied in the preparation of this textbook. The researchers expect that the authors of Arabic teaching materials pay more attention to several international and national standardization principles in writing Arabic teaching materials.

Abstract

Students face several challenges in learning Ilm Badi, including difficulty understanding learning objectives, a lack of comprehension regarding the classification in Ilm Badi materials, insufficient visual stimuli in teaching materials, and challenges in generating new sentences. These issues indicate a mismatch between theoretical understanding and practical language skills. Therefore, this study aims to design teaching materials for Ilm Badi with an innovative thinking approach to stimulate students' writing creativity. The research method employed is Research and Development (R&D), integrating the instructional material design procedure by Sa'ud with the ADDIE model. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and questionnaires. The results indicate that the innovative thinking approach is relevant in strengthening creative thinking processes in general and supports the teaching of Ilm Badi with a more progressive and contextual approach. The teaching materials produced through detailed design stages involve composing content in Arabic and Indonesian, utilizing additional visualizations, and designing exercises to encourage students' innovative thinking abilities. The teaching materials design process includes collaboration with relevant experts. It undergoes expert assessments, resulting in teaching materials that meet standards for use in Ilm Badi learning, emphasizing innovative thinking. Further studies are necessary to test the designed teaching materials' effectiveness empirically.

Abstract

Research on Arabic language teaching models remains largely focused on conventional approaches, while the application of innovative models such as Problem Based Learning (PBL) has received limited attention, particularly in enhancing maharah kalam (speaking skills). Yet, PBL has been proven effective in promoting active student engagement through contextual problem-solving. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the PBL model in improving the Arabic speaking skills of students in the Arabic Language Education Program at the University of Muhammadiyah Bima. The research employed a one-group pretest-posttest design, with data collected through observation, interviews, and speaking proficiency tests. Data analysis was conducted using a one-sample t-test. The results revealed a significant improvement in maharah kalam after the implementation of PBL, with the t-count (71.95) considerably exceeding the critical t-table value (2.144). These findings indicate that PBL is an effective approach to teaching Arabic speaking skills at the tertiary level. The study implies the need for the development of more communicative and problem-solving-based instructional designs in Arabic language education.

Abstract

This study endeavors to meticulously assess the efficacy of a straightforward intervention in Arabic for a person with Down Syndrome. The research focuses on a specific subject denoted as MS, representing children with Down Syndrome possessing an extremely low IQ. The subject is perceived as incapable of executing cognitive tasks, including acquiring linguistic capabilities. Through a qualitative approach, this research integrates methods such as observation, interviews, and expert assessments conducted by psychologists to oversee the intervention process. Data collection encompasses the researcher's observational records, interviews, and pertinent documentation. A descriptive analysis methodology is employed for data analysis and presentation. The study reveals discernible enhancements in MS's Arabic pronunciation following the phonetic articulation intervention. Initially, MS could only pronounce the letters Alif, Ta, Jim, Ha, Dal, Za, Sin, Shod, Tho, 'Ain, Fa, Kaf, Lam, Mim, Nun, Ya, Wawu, Hha, Hamzah, but later, MS can also articulate Ba, Tsa, Kho, Dzal, Ro, Syin, Dlod, Dzo, Ghin, Qof, Yak. Throughout the investigation, recurrent challenges manifested as MS encountered difficulties, such as experiencing headaches and multiple crossed eyes in articulating specific phonemes and words during the initial phases of Arabic language acquisition.
