Abstract

The increasing number of pharmacies in Kendari City has heightened competition in the pharmaceutical sector, positioning brand image and service quality as two key strategic factors that greatly affect consumer preferences when selecting a pharmacy. SF Pharmacy, a pharmacist-owned establishment that began operations in 2022, has implemented a branding strategy from its inception through the use of social media platforms, particularly Instagram and WhatsApp, to strengthen its brand positioning and enhance customer engagement. This study aims to examine the impact of brand image and service quality on customer loyalty at SF Pharmacy. Data were gathered through a Google Form-based questionnaire completed by 100 customers who had visited the pharmacy at least twice. The data were analyzed using the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) approach with SmartPLS software. The findings indicate that both brand image and service quality positively and significantly influence customer loyalty, with brand image (f² = 0.157) having a stronger effect than service quality (f² = 0.093). This indicates that a positive perception of the pharmacy’s identity and reputation plays a more dominant role in shaping loyalty than service experience alone. Together, these variables explain 63.1% of the variance in customer loyalty (R² = 0.631; Q² = 0.606), reflecting strong predictive power. Overall, the findings emphasize that strengthening brand image through consistent, professional, and responsive communication strategies is a key determinant in building and maintaining customer loyalty amid the increasingly competitive pharmacy industry.

Abstract

On the front lines of primary health care in Indonesia, especially in rural areas and geographical conditions that pose challenges (North Konawe). Growing public expectations require the ongoing monitoring of service quality to provide assurance that patients are satisfied with their care. This study aims to evaluate service quality and determine priority improvement strategies in inpatient health centers using an integrated SERVQUAL and Quality Function Deployment (QFD) approach. This study used a quantitative descriptive-analytical design conducted at the Hialu Inpatient Health Center, North Konawe Regency. The data was collected using a SERVQUAL-based structured questionnaire that assessed the patients' expectations and perceptions about five service quality dimensions: tangible, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy. The questionnaire included 24 statements items value evaluated by the five-step Likert scale. The research participants were outpatients and inpatients, patients or their guardians who received services based on purposive sampling techniques. There were 97 respondents in the sample. The SERVQUAL method was used to analyze the data, which calculated the difference between patients' perception and expectations. Subsequently, the attributes with negative gap values were considered as voice of customer that was to be arranged in a QFD analysis, whereby HOQ would exhibit the priorities for improvement of service quality. Eight service indicators possessed negative gap values in the dimensions of tangibles, reliability, responsiveness and assurance. There was no negative gap to the empathy dimension, suggesting that we met patient expectations around empathy. Based on a QFD analysis, the facility's structure enhancements, staff responsiveness improvement and service procedures optimization were found the key technical priorities. SERVQUAL and QFD together provide an effective tool in identifying service quality gaps as well as prioritizing improvements at the Inpatient Community Health Center. These technical priorities are expected to enhance services provision and patients satisfaction.

Abstract

The management of pharmaceutical supplies in hospitals involves nine interrelated cycles, ranging from planning to disposal. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate drug management practices at RSUD dr. H. L. M. Baharuddin in Muna Regency based on interviews with two key informants, namely the Head of the Pharmacy Installation and the Head of the Pharmacy Warehouse, and to assess compliance with Ministry of Health Regulation No. 72 of 2016. A descriptive design combined with the Hanlon method was employed, using criteria of problem magnitude, seriousness, effectiveness of intervention, and feasibility (PEARL factors). Result: The evaluation showed that most management cycles were adequately implemented; however, significant issues were identified in the storage stage. Key problems included the distance between multiple warehouses, complicating distribution and stock monitoring; the absence of CCTV; and inadequate physical security, such as lack of fencing. Hanlon analysis identified storage issues as the highest priority due to their impact on medication safety, security, and supply continuity. The frequency of incidents, risk of loss, and limited monitoring highlight the need for immediate intervention. Recommended improvements include optimizing storage layout, installing CCTV, strengthening access control, and enhancing physical security in line with national regulations. Although most cycles meet standards, storage management requires immediate improvement.

Abstract

Medication adherence is a critical factor in the successful management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM). Poor adherence may lead to uncontrolled blood glucose levels and increased risk of complications. This study aimed to analyze the level of medication adherence and its association with patient characteristics among T2DM patients at Lepo-Lepo Primary Health Center, Kendari City. This study used an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 81 respondents were selected using purposive sampling. Medication adherence was assessed using the Morisky Medication adherence was assessed using the Morisky Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS-8), a widely validated and reliable instrument. The MMAS-8 has demonstrated good psychometric properties, with reported Cronbach’s alpha values ranging from 0.61 to 0.83 across different populations, indicating acceptable internal consistency. In addition, previous validation studies have confirmed its construct validity and reliability in patients with chronic diseases, including Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, making it appropriate for measuring medication adherence in this study. Data were analyzed descriptively. The majority of respondents were aged 50–60 years and had a duration of diabetes of less than 5 years. Most patients demonstrated low medication adherence (MMAS-8 score <6), while a smaller proportion showed moderate adherence (score 6–7), and no respondents achieved high adherence (score = 8). Common non-adherence behaviors included forgetting to take medication, stopping medication when feeling better, and inconsistent medication intake. Medication adherence among T2DM patients at Lepo-Lepo Primary Health Center remains suboptimal, with the majority classified as having low adherence.

Abstract

Depression is a mood disorder characterized by feelings of sadness, loss of interest, and decreased activity, and is associated with neurotransmitter imbalance and oxidative stress. The use of conventional antidepressant drugs still has limitations so that alternatives from natural ingredients such as Etlingera calophrys are needed which are known to contain potential bioactive compounds. This study aims to determine the antidepressant potential of methanol extract of Etlingera calophrys rhizome in mice (Mus musculus) using the Tail Suspension Test (TST) and Forced Swim Test (FST) methods. This study used the Chronic Mild Stress (CMS) model in mice which were divided into several treatment groups, namely normal control, negative control, positive control (amitriptyline 25 mg/kgBW), and extracts with doses of 100, 200, and 300 mg/kgBW. The parameters observed were the duration of immobility in the TST and FST tests. Data were analyzed using One Way ANOVA followed by the Tukey HSD test. Phytochemical screening results showed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and terpenoids. In vivo tests showed that all doses of the extract were able to reduce the duration of immobility compared to the negative control, with a dose of 300 mg/kgBW providing the most significant effect and approaching the positive control (p < 0.05). The methanol extract of Etlingera calophrys rhizome has significant antidepressant activity, with a dose of 300 mg/kgBW being the most effective dose. These findings indicate that the methanolic extract of Etlingera calophrys rhizome exhibits significant antidepressant activity, which may be attributed to the synergistic effects of its bioactive compounds through modulation of monoaminergic neurotransmission and antioxidant mechanisms. In conclusion, Etlingera calophrys rhizome has promising potential as a natural antidepressant candidate, warranting further investigation at the molecular and clinical levels.

Abstract

Epression is a mental health disorder characterized by mood changes, loss of interest, and physiological disturbances, which are associated with dysfunction of the monoaminergic system in the brain. The limitations of conventional therapies have prompted the exploration of natural sources, including plants from the Zingiberaceae family, which are known to be rich in bioactive metabolites with neuropharmacological potential. Etlingera rubroloba is one of Indonesia’s endemic plants with potential as an antidepressant agent; however, scientific studies on it remain limited. This study aims to evaluate the antidepressant activity of Etlingera rubroloba rhizome extract and to identify its secondary metabolites that may play a role in this effect. Extraction was performed via maceration using methanol, followed by phytochemical screening using tube assays. Antidepressant activity was tested in vivo on mice induced with Chronic Mild Stress (CMS), using the Tail Suspension Test (TST) and Forced Swimming Test (FST). The observed parameter was immobility time. Data were analyzed using a One-Way ANOVA test with a significance level of p < 0.05. Results: Phytochemical screening results indicated the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and terpenoids in the extract. Antidepressant activity tests showed that E. rubroloba rhizome extract significantly reduced immobility time in the TST and FST (p < 0.05) compared to the negative control. This effect was dose-dependent, with a dose of 300 mg/kg body weight providing the most optimal activity and comparable to the positive control (amitriptyline). Etlingera rubroloba rhizome extract possesses significant antidepressant activity and has potential for development as a natural antidepressant agent. This effect is thought to involve multimodal mechanisms, including the modulation of monoamine neurotransmitters, increased neuroplasticity, as well as the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities of its secondary metabolites.
