Abstract

This study addresses the low level of students’ creativity in mathematics learning, particularly in geometry, caused by conventional teaching methods that limit exploration and active participation. The purpose of this research is to determine students’ creativity before and after the implementation of the Tangram game and to analyze its effect on students’ creativity in mathematics learning. This study employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method using a One Group Pretest-Posttest design. The population and sample consisted of 20 fourth-grade students of SD Negeri 050688 Sawit Seberang. Data were collected using creativity tests covering fluency, flexibility, and originality aspects. Data analysis techniques included the Wilcoxon test and N-Gain score. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ creativity after the implementation of the Tangram game, indicated by the Wilcoxon test results where the significance value was less than 0.05 (p < 0.05). Additionally, the average N-Gain score of 55.99% was categorized as moderate, indicating that the Tangram game was sufficiently effective in enhancing students’ creativity. Therefore, it can be concluded that the Tangram game has a significant effect on students’ creativity in mathematics learning.

Abstract

Reading comprehension is a fundamental component of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) instruction at the senior high school level. However, reading lessons in many classrooms remain predominantly teacher-centered, providing limited opportunities for collaborative meaning construction. This study aims to explore the implementation of the Make a Match technique in teaching reading comprehension and to examine students’ responses during the learning process. The study employed a qualitative case study design conducted in an eleventh-grade class at MA Darul Lughah Wal Karomah. Data were collected through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis. The data analysis followed the interactive model proposed by Matthew B. Miles and A. Michael Huberman, including data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The findings show that the implementation of the Make a Match technique occurred through several stages: lesson introduction, preparation of card-matching activities, cooperative interaction during the matching process, and confirmation or reflection. Students’ responses were observed in three forms of engagement: behavioral engagement, cognitive engagement, and affective involvement. The findings indicate that the technique organizes classroom interaction through structured cooperative activities that encourage students to engage with reading texts collaboratively. This study contributes a process-oriented understanding of how cooperative learning structures shape interaction and student engagement in EFL reading classrooms.

Abstract

This study examines the contribution of interactive web quizzes to student engagement in English language learning at Sekolah Indonesia Kuala Lumpur (SIKL). Using a descriptive qualitative case study design, data were collected through six classroom observations, interviews with one teacher and eight students, and documentation. The findings reveal three dimensions of engagement: behavioral (32 coded excerpts), emotional (28 excerpts), and cognitive (24 excerpts). Behavioral engagement emerged as the most dominant, indicated by increased participation and attentiveness during quiz-based activities. Emotional engagement was reflected in students’ motivation and enjoyment, while cognitive engagement was demonstrated through reflective thinking and attention to feedback. Overall, the results suggest that interactive web quizzes can support active and meaningful learning, although minor challenges such as time pressure and competitive elements were identified. These findings highlight the potential of digital quizzes as an inclusive and engaging instructional strategy in multicultural EFL classrooms.

Abstract

This article examines a comparative analysis of the metaphysical concepts of Imam al-Ghazālī and Seyyed Hossein Nasr by highlighting the fundamental similarities and differences in their thought. This study employs a qualitative method with a library research approach, drawing on major scholarly books and relevant academic journal articles. The findings indicate that both al-Ghazālī and Nasr position God as the Absolute Reality and reject materialistic views of reality. Al-Ghazālī developed his metaphysical framework within the context of classical Islamic thought to harmonize theology, philosophy, and Sufism while safeguarding doctrinal orthodoxy. Meanwhile, Nasr formulates metaphysics as a critique of modernity through the concepts of scientia sacra, the hierarchy of being, and the sacredness of nature. Differences in historical context lead to variations in intellectual orientation; however, both thinkers affirm that Islamic metaphysics carries significant epistemological, ethical, and spiritual implications. This article concludes that the metaphysical ideas of al-Ghazālī and Nasr are complementary in demonstrating the enduring relevance of Islamic metaphysics in addressing religious and human challenges across different eras

Abstract

Indonesia low performance in the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) raises serious questions about the effectiveness of the national education performance accountability system. This article analyzes the relationship between PISA outcomes and the crisis of educational accountability by using the UNESCO accountability framework as an analytical lens. A conceptual-analytical approach is employed to examine how monitoring systems, evaluation practices, data transparency, and continuous improvement mechanisms have not yet functioned optimally in Indonesia. The findings reveal policy fragmentation, weak data utilization, and a gap between national assessments and international competency standards. The UNESCO framework offers a holistic approach grounded in quality, equity, and collaboration that can strengthen education governance. This article recommends aligning national assessments with PISA competencies, strengthening data-driven accountability, improving the quality of teachers’ pedagogy, and ensuring long-term policy consistency as strategies to enhance Indonesia’s educational competitiveness.

Abstract

This study investigates the instructional framework applied to boost the Arabic speaking skills of students at Madrasah Diniyah Al-Khoirot, Malang. Employing a qualitative case study design, this exploration examines how the textbook Modern Arabic for Beginners: Conversation, Reading, and Writing is utilized pedagogically. The classroom activities comprise group reading, semantic explanations, direct translation, and practical conversational exercises based on the topics. Interestingly, teachers place greater emphasis on fluency and psychological assurance rather than grammatical precision, avoiding instant corrections of i'rab errors. Furthermore, vocabulary acquisition is supported by tasks involving writing and memorizing key mufradat, reinforced by systematic daily, weekly, and monthly murajaah (reviews). The outcomes reveal that despite students achieving good comprehension in reading and vocabulary retention, their understanding of i'rab rules is still restricted. On the other hand, a substantial growth in speaking self-confidence is observed, which translates into active communication during classes and everyday socializing within the Islamic boarding school community. Abstract

This study aims to analyze and compare the Islamic educational thoughts of KH. Hasyim Asy’ari and KH. Ahmad Dahlan, focusing on educational objectives, methods, curriculum, and their relevance to modern Islamic education. The research employs a qualitative method using a library research approach, supported by historical-philosophical and comparative approaches. Data were collected from primary sources, including the works of both figures, and secondary sources such as books, journals, and scholarly articles, which were analyzed through data reduction, data display, comparative analysis, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that KH. Hasyim Asy’ari emphasized education based on adab (ethics), morality, and spirituality through the pesantren tradition, while KH. Ahmad Dahlan developed a modern educational model integrating religious and general sciences with a focus on social reform. Both figures shared the view that education serves as a means of moral formation and community empowerment based on the Qur’an and Sunnah. Their differing perspectives complement one another and remain relevant as a foundation for developing a holistic, moderate, and adaptive model of Islamic education in response to contemporary challenges.

Abstract

The development of digital technology has changed the learning characteristics of Generation Z, who tend to be responsive to visual and interactive media. However, Islamic educational institutions based on Islamic boarding schools often face regulatory dilemmas in the form of restrictions on the use of personal devices, so that Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning tends to return to conventional one-way methods that trigger student boredom. This study aims to explore the problem of declining motivation to learn PAI in grade X students at SMA An-Nur Hidayatullah Turen and examine the effectiveness of implementing offline multimedia as an instructional middle ground that adapts to pesantren regulations. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive case study design. Data collection was carried out through direct observation, in-depth interviews with PAI teachers and grade X students, and documentation. Data analysis applies an interactive model that includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, with validity testing through triangulation of sources and techniques. The results show that the initial condition of PAI learning is dominated by the lecture method (teacher-centered) which triggers mental fatigue, drowsiness, and a decrease in students' intrinsic learning motivation due to overlapping material with pesantren studies. The implementation of offline multimedia in the form of visual presentations and videos of Islamic history using a laptop, LCD projector, and loudspeakers without internet access has been proven to increase student focus, enthusiasm, and active engagement in class.
