Abstract

This study aims to analyze the improvement of the quality of Islamic Religious Education in the digital era through the integration of curriculum transformation and adaptive school management. Employing a qualitative approach with a content analysis model, this study utilizes secondary data sources, including academic books, scientific journal articles, conference proceedings, and other relevant literature. Data were selected based on their relevance, credibility, and novelty, and were analyzed using descriptive-analytical techniques through processes of categorization, interpretation, and synthesis to identify patterns and significant conceptual relationships. The findings indicate that improving the quality of Islamic Religious Education in the digital era is closely linked to successful curriculum transformation toward the Digital Akhlak paradigm. This paradigm emphasizes the internalization of Islamic moral values in students’ behavior within digital spaces through the strengthening of critical digital literacy, media ethics, and the contextualization of Islamic teachings in contemporary realities. However, the effectiveness of this curriculum transformation is highly dependent on responsive and visionary school management, particularly in developing teachers’ digital competencies, providing high-quality digital learning infrastructure and content, and implementing academic supervision oriented toward professional development. Without strong managerial support, curriculum innovation risks remaining normative and inadequately implemented. This study highlights that reforming Islamic Religious Education in the digital era requires a holistic approach that integrates curriculum innovation and technology-based school management to foster a generation of Muslims who are faithful, virtuous, critical, and responsible in addressing the challenges of the digital world.

Abstract

This paper examines the international collaboration of Muhammadiyah in sending lecturers from Islamic Higher Education Institutions (PTKI) to Western universities as a strategy to improve the quality of Islamic education in Indonesia amidst globalization challenges. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, the study explores the historical context and rationale behind the policy, as well as the contributions of alumni to curriculum reform, research, global networks, and religious diplomacy. The findings suggest that the policy aims to integrate knowledge and faith in line with Islam Berkemajuan (Progressive Islam). The study concludes that sending PTKI lecturers abroad is not Westernization but a strategic effort to integrate knowledge and faith. Recommendations include strengthening co-funding policies, integrating interdisciplinary knowledge, and establishing collaborative research centers to prevent brain drain.

Abstract

Indonesian national education is the result of a continuous interaction between government policies and the contributions of civil society, including modern religious organizations such as Muhammadiyah, which has played a significant role in educational transformation since 1912. Amidst the demands of globalization and the need for an inclusive, adaptive, and character-based education system, it is important to understand Muhammadiyah’s influence in shaping the direction of national education policy. This study aims to identify the forms of this influence, including institutional contributions, advocacy roles, curriculum innovation, and strategic partnerships in supporting national education development. The Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method was used to systematically analyze 40 relevant accredited journal articles, resulting in a comprehensive thematic mapping. The results show that Muhammadiyah has a significant influence in four main aspects: expanding access to education through a broad and equitable network of institutions, contributing to policy advocacy involving Muhammadiyah figures and formal institutions, innovating in Islamic-based curriculum and pedagogy, and forming strategic partnerships with the government in equalizing and improving the quality of national education. Analysis of the distribution of articles shows that 35% focused on institutional contributions, 25% on policy advocacy, 20% on curriculum innovation, and 20% on forms of educational partnerships.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the implementation of assessment in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning at madrasah, focusing on planning, implementation, and the utilization of assessment results. Assessment in PAI learning has distinctive characteristics because it encompasses the evaluation of students’ cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains. This study employed a qualitative approach with a field research design. The research subjects consisted of Islamic Religious Education teachers, the head of the madrasah, and students. Data were collected through classroom observations, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, with data validity ensured through source and technique triangulation. The findings reveal that PAI learning assessment has been planned and implemented continuously; however, it is still predominantly focused on cognitive assessment. The assessment of affective and psychomotor aspects has not been carried out systematically due to limited instruments and teachers’ understanding. Moreover, the use of assessment results as a basis for improving instructional practices has not been optimal. This study recommends strengthening teachers’ competencies in authentic assessment and developing comprehensive assessment instruments to enhance the quality of PAI learning. Keywords: learning assessment; Islamic religious education; field research; madrasah

Abstract

This article examines the intellectual and organizational transformation of Muhammadiyah from Islamic puritanism toward Islamic cosmopolitanism within the framework of contemporary Islamic thought in Indonesia. Historically, Muhammadiyah emerged as a reformist movement (tajdid) emphasizing the purification of Islamic beliefs and practices through strict adherence to the Qur’an and Sunnah. However, in recent decades, Muhammadiyah has increasingly articulated a cosmopolitan orientation characterized by openness to religious and cultural pluralism, interfaith dialogue, and active engagement in global humanitarian issues. This study employs a descriptive-analytical literature review method, drawing on classical and contemporary scholarly works on Muhammadiyah, Islamic reformism, and Islamic cosmopolitanism. The findings indicate that the shift from puritanism to cosmopolitanism is driven by internal intellectual dynamics, the expansion of modern education and scientific discourse, as well as external factors such as globalization, democratic transformation, and societal pluralism. Empirical examples from the literature demonstrate how the concept of Islam Berkemajuan has been institutionalized through Muhammadiyah’s involvement in education, healthcare, disaster relief, and interfaith cooperation at national and international levels. This transformation does not signify the abandonment of purificatory principles but rather reflects a reorientation of Islamic reform toward inclusivity, ethical universalism, and civilizational engagement. The study concludes that Muhammadiyah’s evolving synthesis of puritanism and cosmopolitanism represents a distinctive model of progressive Islam capable of contributing to both national cohesion and global humanitarian discourse. Keywords: Muhammadiyah, Islamic puritanism, Islamic cosmopolitanism, Progressive Islam, Islam Berkemajuan

Abstract

Learning evaluation in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) is a crucial aspect to ensure the achievement of educational objectives, which are not only oriented towards the cognitive domain, but also the affective and psychomotor domains. However, practice in the field shows that many educators still equate tests, measurements, assessments, and evaluations, resulting in a less comprehensive assessment process and inability to fully reflect student development. This study employed a qualitative-descriptive method through a literature review of educational evaluation theory books and relevant national and international journals to deeply analyze the basic concepts of evaluation and their urgency in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning. The results show that tests only function as measuring tools; measurements provide quantitative values; assessments gather comprehensive information about the learning process and outcomes; while evaluation is a comprehensive assessment of learning effectiveness. The main findings emphasize that evaluation in PAI must be carried out authentically, continuously, and touch on three competency domains in order to encourage the formation of Islamic character, improve the quality of the learning process, and provide a basis for improving teaching strategies. This article provides a theoretical contribution by clarifying the conceptual distinctions between these terms and offers a more relevant evaluation framework for PAI educators. Keywords: learning evaluation, assessment, testing, measurement, Islamic Religious Education, authentic, Islamic character

Abstract

Social, cultural, religious, and ethnic diversity is an inseparable reality of Indonesian society. Within this context, education faces the challenge of not only producing learners who excel academically but also fostering individuals with tolerant, just, and civilized character. Multicultural education is regarded as a strategic and relevant approach to strengthening character education, as it positions respect for diversity as an integral component of the learning process. Nevertheless, comprehensive theoretical studies that systematically examine the conceptual, theoretical, and methodological relationships between multicultural education and character education remain limited and require further exploration. This study aims to examine and analyze the concepts, theoretical foundations, and approaches of multicultural education in relation to the strengthening of character education. This research employs a qualitative approach in the form of library research. Data were obtained from various scholarly sources, including textbooks, national and international journal articles, conference proceedings, and relevant educational policy documents. Data analysis was conducted using content analysis techniques through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, and was further strengthened through source triangulation to ensure data validity. The findings indicate that multicultural education plays a fundamental role in strengthening character education, particularly in cultivating values such as tolerance, empathy, justice, responsibility, and mutual respect. Theoretically, multicultural education and character education are complementary and cannot be separated from the social and cultural contexts in which learners live and interact. The implementation of multicultural education through inclusive, dialogical, and equitable learning approaches has been shown to create a conducive educational environment for character development. The integration of multicultural education and character education thus constitutes a strategic approach to developing a generation with strong character, social awareness, and the capacity to live harmoniously within a multicultural society.

Abstract

Many learning institutions and organizations are currently faced with the acute burden of trying to forecast the academic performance of their students. This paper reflects the application of machine learning tools to discuss the potential and performance of students in Islamic Studies. The framework suggested in this paper, will start with the acquisition of the historical data of the students in the input dataset. First, the forward selection wrapper method is used to select the most meaningful features thus eliminating the redundant qualities in the set of student data. Three types of classifiers are then used to create a classification model based on fuzzy support vector machines (SVM), K-nearest neighbors (K-NN), and Naive Bayes. In such a methodological approach, academic performance is predicted and results measured according to certain criteria. According to results of the experiment, it is noted that feature selection-fuzzy support vector machine (FS-fuzzy SVM) has an excellent accuracy of 99.9% with a sensitivity of 98.50% and a specificity of 98.50% and it is therefore seen to be more effective in predicting the academic performance of students in Islamic Studies.
