Abstract

The move from higher education into the labour market is a demanding passage, and fresh graduates often enter it carrying considerable worry about what lies ahead. Guided by the family stress model, this study asked whether future anxiety differs by parental income, an indicator of family socioeconomic status, among fresh graduates in Pekanbaru, Indonesia, a city where open unemployment among university graduates remains a live concern. A causal-comparative design was used. Forty-five fresh graduates, defined as having completed their degree within the preceding two years and residing in Pekanbaru, were recruited through purposive sampling against fixed inclusion criteria. Future anxiety was measured with a 21-item instrument adapted from the Indonesian Future Anxiety Scale (Ruddin & Nuryanti, 2026), itself a cross-cultural adaptation of Zaleski’s (1996) Future Anxiety Scale, rated from 0 to 6 (Cronbach’s α = .902). Parental income was grouped into low, middle, and high categories and compared using one-way ANOVA with η² and ω² effect sizes, a confirmatory Kruskal Wallis test, and Spearman correlations; a sensitivity power analysis accompanied the comparison. Future anxiety did not differ significantly across income groups, F(2, 42) = 1.894, p = .163, η² = .083 (95% CI [.005, .380]), ω² = .038; Kruskal–Wallis H(2) = 1.981, p = .371. With 45 participants the achieved power was only .40, and detecting an effect of the observed size at .80 power would require roughly 110 participants. The absence of a significant difference should therefore be read as absence of evidence rather than evidence of absence. The study offers early local evidence on graduate well-being and argues for career counselling that is inclusive across income strata and informed by theory rather than by economic assumptions alone.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technology has led to a dramatic surge in mobile device use among young people, particularly high school students, which risks causing addiction and affecting their motivation to learn. This study aims to uncover the impact of mobile device addiction on high school students’ learning motivation, evaluate the contribution of Islamic Guidance and Counseling (BKI) services in addressing this addiction, and outline implications for improving students’ learning motivation. This study employs a qualitative method through a systematic literature review (SLR) of 15 scientific articles published between 2020 and 2025, sourced from the Google Scholar database. Key findings indicate a negative correlation between smartphone addiction and student learning motivation, although some evidence suggests the potential benefits of smartphones when used appropriately. BKI service techniques, such as group counseling, self-control, and cognitive therapy grounded in Islamic values, have proven effective in reducing smartphone addiction. Structured BKI services supported by collaboration between schools and families have a positive impact on restoring students’ learning motivation. The BKI approach provides a foundation for holistic interventions to balance technological proficiency with the academic achievement of high school students.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Career maturity among high school students needs attention because students are at an important stage in determining further study plans and future career choices. Some students still experience difficulties in recognizing their interests, understanding educational opportunities, interpreting career information, and making responsible decisions. This article aims to examine career guidance service strategies to support high school students' career maturity. This study used a literature review method with a qualitative-descriptive approach. The reviewed literature consisted of national journal articles, academic books, and methodological references relevant to career guidance, career maturity, career planning, career exploration, digital media, self-concept, and guidance and counseling services. The findings show that career maturity can be supported through career information services, career exploration, classical guidance, group guidance, digital media utilization, self-concept strengthening, and collaboration between school counselors and the school environment. These strategies help students understand their potential, evaluate alternative choices, and develop more realistic career plans. This review emphasizes that career guidance should be designed systematically, contextually, and continuously.

Abstract

Academic pressure is one of the common challenges experienced by university students during their academic life. This condition may affect students’ psychological well-being and encourage the emergence of various coping behaviors, including doom spending. This study aimed to describe the levels of academic pressure and doom spending behavior among students of the Economic Education Study Program at Sultan Syarif Kasim State Islamic University of Riau. The study employed a quantitative approach with a descriptive method. The sample was selected using purposive sampling and consisted of active students of the Economic Education Study Program. Data were collected through questionnaires measuring academic pressure and doom spending behavior. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics by calculating mean scores to determine the category of each variable. The findings revealed that the level of academic pressure was in the moderate category with a mean score of 3.00. Meanwhile, doom spending behavior was also categorized as moderate with a mean score of 2.33. These results indicate that students experience a considerable level of academic demands and that some students tend to engage in impulsive spending as a response to certain emotional conditions. Therefore, strengthening guidance and counseling services, stress management programs, and financial literacy education is necessary to help students cope with academic pressure more adaptively and reduce excessive consumptive behavior.

Abstract

This study aims to explore and understand the experiences of drug rehabilitation clients in confronting social stigma in the city of Pekanbaru, Indonesia. Using a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design, the research involved 10 participants selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected via semi-structured in-depth interviews and analyzed thematically. Results identified five major themes: (1) external stigma manifested as labeling, discrimination, and social rejection; (2) self-stigma as the internalization of negative societal views; (3) active coping strategies including self-proving, spirituality, and cognitive reframing; (4) the dual impact of stigma on the recovery process; and (5) the protective role of social support. These findings affirm that the success of drug rehabilitation is not solely determined by clinical intervention, but also by the conditions of social acceptance and environmental support surrounding the individual.
