Abstract

Backgrounds: Pulp disease due to caries can be treated through endodontic treatment, which aims to eliminate bacteria in the root canal so microorganisms cannot multiply. Staphylococcus aureus is a resistant microorganism causing root canal treatment failure. Chlorhexidine as a gold standard cannot remove biofilm and other organic debris. Utilization of nature, chitosan of papuyu fish scales (Anabas testudineus) has antibacterial properties that can be an alternative root canal irrigation material. Purpose: Analyze the antibacterial activity of chitosan of papuyu fish scales against Staphylococcus aureus based on the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC). Methods: This research is a true experimental design with posttest only with control group design. The research groups were chitosan of Papuyu fish scales with concentrations of 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%, chlorhexidine gluconate 2% (positive control), and aquadest (negative control) with 6 repetitions. Results: The MIC value in the One-Way ANOVA test showed a significant difference (p<0.05). Data analysis followed by Post Hoc Games-Howell test showed all treatment groups had significant differences between each other (p<0.05). The MBC value in the Kruskal Wallis test shows that there is a significant difference (p<0.05). Data analysis followed by MannWhitney test showed significant differences between each other (p<0.05) except for the group of papuyu fish scale chitosan 25% concentration against papuyu fish scale chitosan 50% concentration, papuyu fish scale chitosan 100% concentration against chlorhexidine gluconate 2% (p>0.05). Conclusion: There is a difference in the antibacterial activity of chitosan of Papuyu fish scales concentrations of 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%, chlorhexidine gluconate 2% (positive control) and aquadest (negative control) against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria.

Abstract

Background: The weakness of Ca(OH)2 is its low compressive strength and mechanical properties which can affect the stability of the material to the liquid in the tooth root canal so that it can dissolve the root canal medicament material. Due to the various weaknesses of Ca(OH)2, the researchers are interested in combining Ca(OH)2 with natural ingredients extracted from Musa acuminata (Mauli Banana) stem. Musa acuminata stem extract  (MaSE) contains bioactive compounds such as tannins, saponins, alkaloids, flavonoids and lycopene which have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and anti-viral properties. One of the requirements for pulp capping material is to have sufficient compressive strength, therefore, it is necessary to conduct research to test the value of the compressive strength of the combination of Ca(OH)2 with Musa acuminata stem extract. Purpose: To analyze the compressive strength of the pulp capping material from the combination of calcium hydroxide and Musa acuminata stem extract, with a ratio of 1:1; 1:1.5 ; and 1.5:1. Method: This research is a pure experimental study with a posttest-only design with a control group design, consisting of 4 treatment groups, including: group 1 the combination of Ca(OH)2 with Musa acuminata stem extract at 1:1, group 2 1:1.5, group 3 1.5:1, and group 4 as a positive control. Results: One Way Anova test (p<0.05) which means there is a significant difference. Data analysis was continued with the LSD Post Hoc test (p<0.05) which showed that there were significant differences between groups, between each treatment group. Conclusion: The combination of Ca(OH)2 with 50% MaSE and PG ratio of 1.5 : 1 : 0.375, has the highest compressive strength (1.40 MPa), so it can be concluded that the more Musa acuminata stem extract in the combination, the lower the compressive strength. Keywords : Calcium hydroxide, Compressive strength, Musa acuminata stem extract

Abstract

Background: The face's vertical dimension or vertical height is the distance between two anatomical points, namely the points on the maxilla and mandible. In measuring the vertical dimension, vertical dimensions of rest (DVR) and vertical dimensions of occlusion (DVO) must be measured. The difference between the vertical dimension of rest (DVR) and the vertical dimension of occlusion (DVO) is called the freeway space (FWS) or interocclusal distance. Freeway space is a key requirement for optimal comfort and function of a partial or complete denture. Each individual's freeway space distance is the movement of muscle function, which can be measured by direct methods such as the Willis method using calipers and the digital photo analysis method using computer software. Two measurement methods can be used to measure freeway space distance direct and indirect. Purpose: To analyze the difference between freeway space distance measured by the Willis method and by digital photo analysis of Adobe Photoshop and Corel Draw graphic design software in the Banjar tribe (a review of students at the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Lambung Mangkurat Banjarmasin). Methods: This study is a quantitative study with an analytic observational method and a cross-sectional approach. This study was conducted by collecting data simultaneously at one time by comparing three different methods on the same sample without being given any treatment. Results: One Way ANOVA test is 0.296 (P>0.05) which means there is no significant difference. Conclusion: There is no significant difference between the results of measuring freeway space distance using the Willis method with a digital caliper and digital photo analysis with Adobe Photoshop and Corel Draw software.

Abstract

This study employs visual discourse analysis to reveal the visual elements within the children's book "I AM KARTINI." Its primary objective is to assess how the book conveys the interplay between gender and the pursuit of gender equality, particularly concerning education. The analysis reveals a both the promotion of Gender Equality and the presence of Gender Inequality. "I AM KARTINI" strongly advocates for Gender Equality, emphasizing the critical importance of granting women equal access to education. The book communicates the idea that numerous women recognize education's pivotal role in their lives and society as a whole, championing women's inherent right to the same opportunities enjoyed by men. However, the analysis also uncovers instances of Gender Inequality depicted in the book, connecting patriarchal culture within the Indonesian educational system. The book portrays stereotypes that restrict women to domestic roles, primarily centered on family and household responsibilities. This research highlights the critical importance of examining how gender is represented in children's literature. "I AM KARTINI" serves as a powerful instrument in this endeavor, advocating for gender equality while also highlighting the ongoing challenges related to gender bias and inequality within the Indonesian educational landscape. These findings emphasise the urgent need to recognize and address these issues to foster an inclusive educational environment where every individual has an equal opportunity to thrive.

Abstract

The interest in metallic foam is increasing since their cellular structures have a unique combination of properties such as high stiffness, low density, lightweight, high specific strength, and thermal insulation. Commonly, the performance of metallic foam can be improved by the heat treatment process. However, the previous heat treatment methods still present the brittle crack path and the research on heat treatments of the metal foam properties is very limited. In this study, individual parameters in stress relieving treatment that contribute to Al-Foam properties were investigated. The stress-relieving process of the samples was performed using a vacuum furnace. The composition of aluminium foam was determined by X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF). The hardness test was conducted using a microhardness tester. Quasi-static compression test was conducted by a universal testing machine. From the SEM-EDX elemental images, it can be observed that traces of Ca, Fe, Ti, and Si have a homogeneous distribution in the Al-matrix. In the result obtained, the mechanical properties of aluminium alloy foam decrease when the heating temperature is enhanced. The mechanical properties of closed-cell aluminium alloy increase with the reduction of the holding temperature. This was due to the recovery and recrystallization process which depended on time and temperature during the heat treatment process. The mechanical properties of aluminium foam were raised after increasing the stabilization temperature. This finding was due to the vibrational atomic motion in the recovery process.
