Abstract

Management of household waste, especially organic waste and used cooking oil, is one of the environmental challenges faced by many villages in Indonesia. Organic waste that is not managed properly has the potential to pollute the environment, attract pests and contribute to greenhouse gas emissions. Apart from that, used cooking oil that is thrown away carelessly can pollute the air and soil. The article aims to discuss the implementation of organic waste management through biopores and training on processing used cooking oil into aromatherapy candles carried out by KKN students from Sebelas Maret University (UNS) in Bolon Village, Colomadu District, Karanganyar Regency. This program has the potential to reduce the volume of waste, increase environmental awareness, and provide added economic value for village communities.

Abstract

The implementation of the Banyu Panguripan Tradition still balances the values of Islamic teachings that live in the community of Pulosari Subdistrict. Although this tradition has potential as a cultural tourism destination, it still does not leave the essence of the sacredness of this tradition. The Banyu Panguripan tradition is a tradition related to springs and water sources, which is not only in Pulosari Subdistrict. But some areas also have the same tradition, such as in Kudus. The difference lies in the packaging and implementation of the event. The use of descriptive qualitative methods is considered appropriate in this research because the techniques used in data collection are observation and interviews so that the data obtained comes from interviews with informants who are relevant and credible to this research. The sacredness that exists in the implementation of the Banyu Panguripan Tradition still does not leave the Islamic corridor in the community.

Abstract

Panji masks are one of the mask arts that originated in Indonesia and come in a variety of styles. One of the existing Panji mask styles is the Yogyakarta style, made of Pule wood and used in dance or theater performances. While in Japan, masks used in dance or theater performances, known as Noh masks, are made of cypress wood. Panji masks and Noh masks are long-standing cultural heritage arts. This study aims to identify and analyze the similarities and differences between the elements of art and the principles of art preserved in the Panji and Noh masks. A comparative qualitative method was used for the study. Library research, observation, interviews, documentation, and focused group discussions (FGD) were used to collect the data. Data processing and preparation, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing were all completed in stages. The results revealed similarities and differences between the Panji and Noh masks. Several principles are shared by Panji and Noh masks, including point elements, line shape, the principle of unity, balance, rhythm, proportion, and the principle of harmony. The line, field/shape element, color element, texture element, and emphasis principle are all different. These similarities and differences are due to a variety of factors, including the two countries’ geographical proximity (both on the Asian continent), as well as their history, customs, and culture.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the meaning embedded in the Puariti font and explore the visual literacy and ideological content in the Puariti font and its relevance in social practice. This study is a textual analysis using a cultural study approach especially on ideological theory in examining the Puariti font due to the solid cultural characteristics of the font and its long process of cultural transformation. According to the results, the Puariti font represents Pua Kumbu in the form of metamorphic letters. This font is composed of Engkaramba and anthropomorphic motifs belonging to the upper-class motifs of the Iban society. Further, Puariti can serve as a symbol of Iban culture amid globalization. This font embeds an essential meaning that connects the Iban people with the eternal meaning of their life and cosmology, history, and their relationship to the physical environment. That, taking part in maintaining the boundaries and construction of the Iban identity can help distinguish the Ibans from others. The cultural identity and expression of Iban religiosity are represented through Puariti font. Despite changing from the sacred Pua Kumbu cloth to the digital version of the Puariti font, the condition shows the same physical and metaphysical reality as the embodiment of reality and an ideology. The existence of the Puari-ti font can function as a visual literacy medium in art education inheritance practice, assisting the younger generation as agents of cultural production to revive traditional and cultural values.

Abstract

Listening skills are an important part of developing children's knowledge, so it is necessary to choose the right learning media. Podcasts have advantages that are relevant to listening skills and instill environmental awareness in elementary school students. This study aims to explore the influence of using podcast media in building environmental awareness among elementary school students and its impact on their listening skills. The method used in this study is a descriptive qualitative approach, involving fourth grade students from several elementary schools as participants. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and analysis of podcast content used in learning. The results of the study showed that the use of podcasts as a learning medium was effective in increasing students' environmental awareness. Students involved in podcast listening activities showed a significant increase in listening skills, which was reflected in their ability to understand and discuss environmental issues raised in the podcast. In addition, students also showed a more caring attitude towards the environment, which was marked by active participation in environmental activities at school. This study concluded that podcast media not only functions as a tool to improve listening skills, but also as an effective means to build environmental awareness among elementary school students. These findings are expected to contribute to the development of more innovative and responsive learning methods to environmental issues.
