Abstract

In the era of globalization and technological advancement, films have become a popular medium accessible to all groups, serving not only as entertainment but also as carriers of social, cultural, psychological, and linguistic values. Figurative language in films plays a crucial role in enriching narratives and expressing abstract ideas through more concrete and imaginative forms. This study focuses on analyzing figurative sentences containing possessive meaning in the film The Golden Compass using a qualitative descriptive approach. The data, taken from character dialogues, were identified, classified, and analyzed to reveal the possessive meanings embedded in them. The findings show five figurative sentences with possessive meaning that significantly contribute to strengthening characterization, portraying emotional bonds, and representing power relations among the characters. These results indicate that figurative language functions not only as an aesthetic device but also as a means of psychological and social representation. Theoretically, this research broadens insights into linguistic studies, while practically it can be applied as learning material in language and literature education to foster appreciation of figurative language in real contexts. Thus, films can be regarded as both a medium of learning and a reflection of life values.

Abstract

This research aims to explore the use of digital learning platforms from educational influencers in improving English speaking skills among students in Indonesia. Qualitative methods with a case study design were used to collect data from seven students of second-semester of the English language education study program at University Muhammadiyah Luwuk. Sampling was carried out using purposive sampling, while the data collection instrument was a semi-structured interview. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis, which involves the steps of understanding the data, creating initial coding, finding themes, examining themes, mapping and naming themes, and preparing reports. The research findings highlight that platforms such as YouTube and TikTok are effective learning resources for students, by providing access to quality and structured learning content. Internal encouragement, students' willingness to learn, self-confidence, and flexible learning time are important in improving English speaking skills. This research contributes a deeper understanding of the role of digital technology in the context of English language learning in Indonesia and offers guidance for the development of more effective and relevant learning strategies.

Abstract

The ecological crisis has hit parts of the world due to the imbalance in the relationship between humans and nature, so it is very important and urgent to have a practical and scientific understanding of environmental education with ethical and conceptual reflections from philosophy. This research aims to answer the research question, "How can the intersection between environmental education and philosophy foster deeper environmental awareness in society?" This study uses a systematic literature review (SLR) methodology, with the PRISMA technique to analyze various literature sources including books, journal articles, and reviews. Data were collected from publications in the Scopus database from April 2011 to May 2023, using keywords such as "Intersection", "Education", "Environmental", "Science", and "Philosophy". Bibliometric analysis using VOSviewer revealed several specific findings, including an increasing trend of research integrating environmental education and philosophy, as well as the identification of key concepts linking the two fields. These findings highlight the important role of combining environmental education and philosophy in fostering a society that is environmentally conscious, full of ethics, and respects sustainability. By integrating environmental philosophy into the education curriculum, we can grow generations who are more responsible, and wise in preserving the environment. This study provides valuable insights for policymakers, educators, and stakeholders committed to promoting sustainable environmental management and offers practical recommendations for its implementation in education.

Abstract

Community service activities carried out by the community service team for teachers aim to share knowledge and skills about developing a Higher Order Thinking Skill (HOTS)-based learning model. The direct benefit of this community service activity is to increase the knowledge, skills, and experience of school-mobilizing teachers in developing HOTS-based learning models. This community service activity is conducted as training by providing materials and practices for developing HOTS-based learning models. The target audience for this community service activity was 30 teachers in Grobogan Regency. The methods used in this activity were lectures, question-and-answer sessions, discussions, and practice, as well as a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach that involved teachers in problem identification and training planning, enabling them to actively contribute to their own development and improve the quality of education. The results showed significant improvements, including increased teacher participation in discussion forums, from 40% to 80%, and that 60% of teachers were able to apply new teaching methods after the training. The evaluation included aspects of knowledge, skills, activeness, and attendance, reflecting the positive impact of the training. The impact of this activity includes a significant increase in teachers' knowledge and skills in developing HOTS-based learning models, which, in turn, can support improvements in learning quality in schools and sustainably enhance teacher professionalism.

Abstract

This research investigated temporal patterns of land subsidence in DKI Jakarta by applying a Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) model to deformation measurements derived from Persistent Scatterer Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (PS-InSAR) observations acquired between 2017 and 2021. Because the original PS-InSAR time series was characterized by uneven acquisition intervals, the deformation records were first resampled into a uniform 11-day sequence to obtain a consistent temporal structure for modeling. Preprocessing steps, comprising outlier handling, temporal resampling, and feature normalization, were performed to ensure that the model could capture deformation behavior reliably. The LSTM architecture employed three stacked recurrent layers and was trained using the Adam optimizer with Smooth L1 Loss and an early-stopping strategy. Model evaluation demonstrated excellent agreement between predicted and observed deformation, yielding R² = 1.000, MSE = 0.104, RMSE = 0.322 mm, and KGE = 0.998. Compared with a previously developed Random Forest model (R² = 0.9995, RMSE = 0.3314 mm), the LSTM approach exhibited more stable temporal learning and was better suited for long-horizon deformation forecasting. Spatial analysis revealed that northern Jakarta, particularly Cengkareng, Tanjung Priok, and Pantai Indah Kapuk, continued to experience the greatest cumulative subsidence (> −30 mm), whereas areas in the south, such as Jagakarsa and Kebayoran Baru, showed minimal deformation (< −5 mm), aligning with known geological and anthropogenic conditions. Overall, integrating PS-InSAR time series with an LSTM framework provided a more coherent and temporally consistent method for characterizing subsidence behavior in Jakarta. The outcomes of this study offered a scientific basis for developing intelligent monitoring tools to support mitigation efforts and sustainable urban planning in regions affected by land subsidence.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the planning, development, and feasibility of interactive e-modules for writing short stories. The method used is the Research and Development (R&D) model of Borg and Gall which is simplified into seven stages. The research subjects included material experts, media experts, teachers, and grade XI students, with data collection through interviews, questionnaires, and observations that were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The results of the study showed that interactive e-modules based on prophetic literature were effective in overcoming students' obstacles in writing short stories and limited learning resources, and were declared very feasible based on the validation of material experts (95.45%), media experts (95%), practitioners (93.25%), and field tests (86.44%). This e-module contributes to improving writing skills while shaping students' character through the integration of humanization, liberation, and transcendence values, making it relevant as a source of innovative learning in the 21st century. AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan perencanaan, pengembangan, dan kelayakan e-modul interaktif menulis cerita pendek. Abstract

Social Studies (IPS) education plays a crucial role in understanding local wisdom as a cultural resource that supports sustainable development and is responsive to social contexts. This study explores the integration of local wisdom into elementary school curricula and learning practices using ethnographic qualitative methods, including in-depth interviews with teachers, classroom observations, and document analysis. The results indicate that local wisdom is embedded in local languages and dialects, in folklore, and in arts and crafts. However, challenges such as a lack of teacher training and limited resources were also identified. This study emphasizes the importance of well-planned pedagogical strategies to develop students' character and social attitudes.
