Abstract

Domestic liquid waste stemming from cooking and cleaning activities poses a significant environmental concern. Initial tests revealed a high Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) level of 376 mg/L, far exceeding the permissible limit of 30 mg/L, according to Ministry of Environment and Forestry Regulation No. 68 of 2016. Failure to treat this waste could have detrimental effects on the environment. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of varying flow rates in reducing BOD levels in canteen liquid waste, employing activated carbon derived from coconut shells. Employing an experimental design without control, the research encompassed three flow rate treatments: 1.2, 1.3, and 1.4 liters per minute, each repeated six times. Thirty-six samples, equivalent to 54 liters of waste, were analyzed, exhibiting a normal data distribution. Results indicated a notable reduction in BOD levels across all flow rate variations. Specifically, the average decrease was 109.68 mg/L, 107.57 mg/L, and 99.52 mg/L for flow rates of 1.2, 1.3, and 1.4 liters per minute, respectively. These findings underscore the effectiveness of varying flow rates in mitigating BOD in domestic liquid waste. Further research includes investigating activated carbon media's saturation point to optimize its adsorption capacity and determining reactivation timelines. Such endeavors are crucial for refining waste treatment processes and minimizing environmental impacts.

Abstract

The miniature transmission system is part of the electric power system that functions as a channeler of electrical power from the power generation system to the distribution system through substations. The electrical power is flowed by a copper conductor that has good conductivity. Transmission lines are installed in the air using towers as support for conducting cables. This miniature transmission system works on a small scale and serves to explain how the real transmission system works. The purpose of designing this tool is to test the magnitude of the voltage drop and power loss on each line. The line voltage drop can be obtained by calculating the voltage difference on the send and receive side of the transmission line. Meanwhile, to find the power loss on each line is to find the value of the conducting resistance and current on each of its lines.

Abstract

Microplastics (MPs) are pollutant agents that have been absorbed and detected in aquatic ecosystems at high concentrations. This study aimed to investigate the presence of MPs pollution in green mussel (Perna viridis) products sold at the Kedonganan fish market, Badung, Bali. A total of 150 mussels with an average weight of 3,2 ± 0,71 g/mussels from three traders each composed and followed by the pre-treatment stage using 5 M NaCl solution, extraction with wet oxidation peroxidation (WPO) + Fe(II) catalyst and filtered. The highest percentage for the form of MPs was successively obtained by the Line form in Trader A at 85,42% and the lowest in Trader C at 50,00%. The highest form of fragments was obtained in Trader C at 42,86%. Film and filament forms were only obtained in Trader A. The highest MPs color was black and the lowest was gray. The highest average MPs particle size was found in the form of a filament of 1944,37 ± 88,41 μm which was found in Trader A. Estimates of MPs intake per year/capita in Indonesia showed that exposure to MPs through consumption of green mussels in this study amounted to 498,330 MPs/year/capita items. Overall, the green mussel from Trader A had the highest percentage and size of MPs, with the shape of fragment MPs being dominated by Trader C and the color of the MPs being dominated by black. MPs exposure to green mussel consumption in Indonesia is very high, but no health impact category has yet been found for this estimate.
