Abstract

Islamic boarding schools are Islamic educational institutions that have a significant role in character formation and intellectual development of the young generation of Muslims in Indonesia. Today, Islamic boarding schools are divided into two main categories: Salaf (traditional) Islamic boarding schools and Khalaf (modern) Islamic boarding schools. This study aims to identify the curriculum and learning system at the Khalaf Islamic boarding school, which combines religious education with general education in order to prepare students to face the challenges of the globalization era. The results of the study show that Khalaf Islamic boarding schools not only maintain religious learning through traditional methods such as sorogan and bandongan, but also adopt modern learning systems, including formal classes and technology integration. The Khalaf Islamic boarding school curriculum consists of religious and general curriculums, which are designed in balance between religious knowledge and contemporary science. In conclusion, the Khalaf Islamic boarding schools offer an adaptive educational model in line with the demands of the era and needs of society in the digital era without losing the noble characters as the identity of Islam.

Abstract

Pesantren is the oldest Islamic educational institution in Indonesia, which has undergone various transformations throughout history. This study aims to examine the evolution of pesantren’s educational system from a historical perspective and analyze contemporary challenges faced in the era of globalization and the industrial revolution 4.0. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were obtained through case studies and literature reviews. The findings indicate that pesantren's educational system evolved from a traditional model focusing on kitab kuning teachings with sorogan and bandongan methods into a modern pesantren that incorporates general curriculum and digital technology. The main challenges faced by pesantren include technological integration, curriculum modernization, and strengthening its role in religious moderation to counter radicalism. Adaptation strategies implemented by pesantren include digitizing learning processes, developing santripreneurship programs, and integrating character education based on Islamic values. The study concludes that pesantren demonstrates remarkable flexibility in navigating changes without losing its traditional identity. Support from various stakeholders is essential to ensure the sustainability of pesantren’s transformation, allowing it to remain relevant and competitive in the future. Abstract

This paper is motivated by the moral decline of high school students which is a reflection of their religious attitude, which has an impact on poor relations with educators, lack of enthusiasm in learning and not yet visible self-awareness in carrying out daily worship. This happens because of the weak diversity of students. Therefore, this paper will describe how educators can shape students' religious attitudes through religious extracurricular activities. The stages of forming a religious attitude are implemented in an activity at the Saturday Sunday Islamic boarding school (PETUAH). The results of the study found that to form religious attitudes, students are not only equipped with cognitive knowledge about how they worship vertically and get along with fellow humans in horizontal relationships, but also must arrive at the affective realm and be implemented in real behavior.
