Abstract

Basic education confronts globalization and Industry 4.0 challenges demanding enhanced teacher professionalism, yet public elementary schools in Tunjung Teja District exhibit low teacher motivation, commitment, and satisfaction—evidenced by 30% tardiness, 87.5% lacking extra teaching initiative, and facility/benefit complaints. This study investigates transformational leadership (Bass & Avolio) effects on teacher performance (Permendiknas No. 16/2007) mediated by organizational commitment (Meyer & Allen) and job satisfaction (Herzberg). Employing a causal explanatory quantitative design via cross-sectional survey of 40 teachers (simple random sampling), self-reported Likert-scale questionnaires assessed all variables, showing strong validity (r=0.73-0.78) and reliability (α=0.83-0.86). Results revealed very high leadership (4.38), high commitment/satisfaction (4.07 each), and very high performance (4.12); significant regression (R²=0.68, F=18.45, p<0.001), strong leadership prediction (β=0.52, p<0.001), and mediation (Sobel p<0.05) supported all hypotheses. Transformational leadership effectively boosts performance via commitment and satisfaction; recommendations urge principal training and intrinsic satisfaction enhancements for education quality.

Abstract

This study examines the development and vitality of local languages in four major tourism destinations in Indonesia—Bali, Yogyakarta, West Java, and Banten by exploring how tourism-driven dynamics contribute to language shift and reshape cultural identity. The research is motivated by the growing dominance of Indonesian and English within tourism spaces, which progressively replaces the communicative functions of local languages and weakens intergenerational transmission, particularly among younger speakers. The primary aims of this study are to map the vitality levels of local languages, identify the key drivers of language shift, and analyze community-based preservation strategies that continue to operate in each region. Employing a qualitative multi-case study design, the research draws on direct observations and in-depth interviews with 32 informants, including local community members and tourism workers. Data were analyzed using thematic content analysis to identify patterns of language use, forms of tourism interaction, and community-led preservation efforts. The findings indicate a consistent pattern across all regions: local languages remain active in domestic and ritual contexts, shift into passive use among younger generations, and become endangered in high-intensity tourism zones such as Kuta–Seminyak, Malioboro, Lembang–Pangandaran, and Anyer–Tanjung Lesung. The shift is driven by tourism communication demands, youth linguistic preferences, industry service norms, and weakening intergenerational transmission. Despite these pressures, strong preservation strategies persist within customary communities, local educational initiatives, and cultural activities. The study highlights the need for a more integrated language preservation strategy involving government policy, the tourism sector, and local communities. The originality of this research lies in its cross-regional comparative analysis that explicitly links tourism activities to the vitality of local languages in Indonesia.

Abstract

Pembelajaran kimia sering kali dianggap abstrak dan sulit, yang berdampak pada rendahnya minat belajar (chemistry learning interest) dan penguasaan konsep (concept mastery) peserta didik. Artikel ini bertujuan menelaah efektivitas pendekatan pembelajaran variatif dalam meningkatkan kedua variabel tersebut. Tinjauan dilakukan secara naratif terhadap literatur terbitan 2019–2025 dari basis data terakreditasi. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa integrasi problem-based learning (PBL), project-based learning (PjBL), diskusi kolaboratif, dan simulasi virtual (PhET) secara signifikan meningkatkan keterlibatan aktif, berpikir kritis, serta pemahaman konseptual kimia. PBL dan PjBL efektif mengaitkan teori dengan konteks nyata, diskusi memperdalam pemahaman melalui interaksi sosial, sedangkan simulasi virtual menjembatani keterbatasan laboratorium fisik. Disimpulkan bahwa pendekatan pembelajaran variatif merupakan strategi pedagogis yang relevan untuk mengatasi persepsi negatif terhadap kimia sekaligus memperkuat fondasi akademik peserta didik. Implementasi sistematis pendekatan ini direkomendasikan untuk mendukung keberlanjutan pendidikan kimia di era digital.

Abstract

Abstract Critical thinking skills are essential competencies in 21st-century learning, particularly in science education. However, preliminary observations indicate that students’ critical thinking skills are still low due to teacher-centered learning, resulting in suboptimal achievement of critical thinking indicators. This study aims to determine the effect of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model on students’ critical thinking skills in the topic of food chains. This research employed a quasi-experimental method with a nonequivalent pretest-posttest control group design. The sample consisted of 50 students, including 25 students in the experimental class and 25 students in the control class. The instrument used was an essay test based on Facione’s critical thinking indicators. Data were analyzed using paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test. The results showed that the average posttest score of the experimental class (67.80) was higher than the control class (39.70). The independent sample t-test showed a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05, and the effect size was 2.54 (very large category). It can be concluded that the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model has a significant effect and is more effective than Inquiry-Based Learning (IBL) in improving students’ critical thinking skills. Keywords: Problem-Based Learning, Critical Thinking Skills, Science Learning, Elementary Education Abstrak Keterampilan berpikir kritis merupakan kompetensi abad ke-21 yang penting dikembangkan dalam pembelajaran IPAS. Namun, hasil observasi menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan siswa masih rendah karena pembelajaran cenderung berpusat pada guru sehingga capaian indikator keterampilan berpikir kritis belum optimal. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh model Problem-Based Learning (PBL) terhadap keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa pada materi rantai makanan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuasi eksperimen dengan desain nonequivalent pretest-posttest control group design. Sampel penelitian berjumlah 50 siswa yang terdiri atas 25 siswa kelas eksperimen dan 25 siswa kelas kontrol. Instrumen penelitian berupa tes uraian berbasis indikator keterampilan berpikir kritis. Teknik analisis data menggunakan uji paired sample t-test dan uji independent sample t-test. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata nilai posttest kelas eksperimen sebesar 67,80 lebih tinggi dibandingkan kelas kontrol sebesar 39,70. Hasil uji independent sample t-test menunjukkan nilai signifikansi sebesar 0,000 < 0,05 serta diperoleh nilai effect size sebesar 2,54 dengan kategori sangat besar. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa model Problem-Based Learning (PBL) berpengaruh signifikan dan lebih efektif dibandingkan model Inquiry-Based Learning (IBL) dalam meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the concept of human creation in Sūrat al-Dhāriyāt (Qurʾān 51:56) and  examine its implications for the philosophical foundation of Islamic education. The research employs a thematic Qurʾānic interpretation approach by analyzing classical and contemporary exegetical works, including - those of al-Ṭabarī and Ibn Kathīr, and relating them to contemporary discussions in Islamic educational thought. The findings indicate that the Qurʾānic concept of worship extends beyond ritual practices and encompasses a holistic orientation of human life toward devotion to God . From this perspective, the ultimate purpose of Islamic education is not merely intellectual development but the cultivation of individuals characterized by spiritual consciousness, intellectual competence, and ethical responsibility. This study proposes a teleological framework of Islamic education in which the purpose of education is derived from the existential purpose of human creation as servants of God. The framework highlights the integration of spiritual, intellectual, and moral dimensions within Islamic educational philosophy and offers a Qurʾānic foundation for contemporary discussions on the objectives of Islamic education.
