Abstract

Clean and healthy living behavior (PHBS) is essential for achieving optimal health. School-age children are in a crucial period for initiating PHBS, enabling them to become health promoters for their families, school environment, and society. Implementing PHBS in schools can raise public awareness, encouraging clean and healthy living. This research aims to identify factors related to PHBS among students. The study employs a quantitative, cross-sectional design. The population consists of 298 students, with a sample of 89 respondents selected based on inclusion criteria, specifically fifth and sixth graders registered at SD Negeri 066650 Medan, using the Lameshow formula. Conducted at SDN 066650 Medan from January to March 2024, the research utilizes a questionnaire distributed directly to students. Examined variables include knowledge, attitudes, infrastructure, and the role of teachers. Data analysis involves Univariate and Bivariate methods, processed with the chi-square test using SPSS version 20. Results indicate significant relationships between knowledge (p=0.033), attitudes (p=0.033), infrastructure (p=0.035), and teacher roles (p=0.019) with PHBS implementation in schools. The study concludes that low levels of knowledge, attitudes, infrastructure availability, and active teacher involvement contribute to inadequate student behavior in practicing PHBS effectively at school.

Abstract

ntroduction: Traditional postpartum care practices remain an integral aspect of maternal and child health in indigenous communities. Mararang tradition is a postpartum care tradition that continues to be widely practiced among Batak postpartum mothers, as it is believed to accelerate maternal and infant recovery through heat therapy. . This study aims to examine the historical evolution of the mararang tradition, its cultural significance, and its implications for maternal and infant health. Methods: A qualitative phenomenological approach was employed to explore the experiences of postpartum mothers practicing the mararang tradition. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with postpartum mothers, their husbands, traditional leaders, and healthcare providers in North Sumatra Province. Source triangulation, methodological triangulation, and data analysis were applied in this research. Thematic and content analyses were conducted to explore key dimensions of health beliefs, communication, and the transformation of the mararang tradition over time. Results: Participants ascribed thermal balance, comfort, and social support to mararang, while acknowledging potential risks from heat and smoke. Communication between families and midwives produced adaptive forms (e.g., moderated heat, improved ventilation, time?limited sessions), balancing cultural continuity with safety. We synthesise a conceptual model showing how explanatory beliefs, family authority, and professional guidance co?produce negotiated care. Conclusion: Mararang persists through culturally safe adaptations facilitated by respectful dialogue; practical safeguards (distance from heat source, ventilation, exclusion post?caesarean) can be embedded within routine postpartum care. Programmes should integrate culturally anchored counselling and risk?mitigation protocols, enabling context?sensitive maternal and newborn care.

Abstract

Dali Ni Horbo, a traditional buffalo milk-based product from the Batak Toba community in North Sumatra, represents a culturally significant and nutritionally rich food. Despite its heritage value, its traditional form limits its appeal and market potential. This study aims to develop dali ni horbo into stick snacks, offering a modern variation that retains its cultural essence and health benefits while enhancing marketability. Conducted in Toba Regency from July to November 2024, this research involved 20 micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) engaged in culinary entrepreneurship. A mixed-method approach was utilized, encompassing interviews to gather perceptions of dali ni horbo organoleptic properties and innovation potential, alongside sensory evaluation to assess attributes including color, texture, and taste. The results indicate high acceptance of the new product, with texture (mean score: 4.15) and taste (3.95) identified as strengths. However, improvements are necessary in aroma freshness and saltiness to align with broader consumer preferences. The study highlights Dali Ni Horbo's potential as a nutritious snack, leveraging its high protein and calcium content to address nutritional deficiencies. Moreover, this innovation supports local economic empowerment by creating opportunities for MSMEs and fostering sustainable practices in buffalo milk processing. In conclusion, transforming dali ni horbo into stick snacks bridges traditional culinary heritage and modern innovation, offering economic, cultural, and nutritional benefits. Recommendations include optimizing flavor profiles, diversifying products, and enhancing market access through strategic partnerships with government and private sectors to scale production and expand distribution. Keywords: Buffalo Milk, Cultural Innovation, Dali Ni Horbo, Sensory Evaluation.
