The qualitative descriptive method is the method that researchers use in this study. This research produced several findings. There are 2 types of discrimination depicted in the "Passing" movie, namely direct discrimination and indirect discrimination. Including racial, gender, social, economic, cultural and other discrimination. From this type of discrimination, the researcher found the denotative meaning depicted in the "Passing" movie namely limited public facilities for black people, education that was mapped out specifically for white people, ridiculed as dirty or Negro. The connotative meaning contained in the movie “Passing” is that white people still look down on black people. Considers all black people the same so that there is no need to name them, only need to mention one word that is Negro, and still think black people are dirty just because of their dark skin. The myth contained in the "Passing" movie is in the mention of the word Negro for black people that has existed for 200 years, and is still used today. hating and not wanting to be close to black people just because they think black is dirty, the stereotype of black being dirty itself has existed since the late 18th century through advertisements for Pears soap and until now there are still people who think black people are dirty.

Abstract

Batik is a work of visual art in the form of traditional clothing, and intangible cultural heritage has become an inseparable part of the daily life of the Indonesian people. One of the motives is the famous Rifa'iyah batik with a pattern inspired by the teachings of Sheikh Ahmad Rifa'i which shows evidence of the beliefs, deeds, and identity of Sheikh Ahmad Rifa'i's followers. In this study, the author aims to discuss Batik Rifa'iyah as a document using conceptual analysis based on document theory such as the concept of meaningful, indexicality, and documents as a broader system to explore the meaning contained in Batik Rifa'iyah styles. This study provides an alternative understanding of batik cloth, especially batik rifa'iyah which is not limited to cloth and visual arts but also provides an in-depth analysis of how to treat colors, shapes, and patterns as documents that refer to the daily life of the Rifa'iyah people. This research also extends the use of document theory in analyzing various information objects in the neodocumentation movement tradition. The results show that batik rifa'iyah has enriched our view of documents, which are symbolic representations, not only expressed through words that have long been known, but lines, colors, and shapes are indeed essential things of a document.

Abstract

Interpersonal relationships in healthcare services, particularly in inpatient settings, are fundamental aspects that significantly influence patients’ perceptions and satisfaction levels. Among participants of the National Health Insurance (JKN) program, discrepancies are often observed between their expectations and the actual services received. These gaps commonly relate to communication, empathy, and the attentiveness of healthcare providers toward patients. This study aims to identify the differences between patient expectations and the services received, specifically regarding interpersonal aspects in the inpatient care unit of RSUD Haji Makassar. This research employed a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 98 respondents patients from class I, II, and III inpatient services were selected using quota sampling from a population of 41,663 patients. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire and analyzed using univariate methods and the Importance Performance Analysis (IPA) approach. The results showed that the average expectation score was 3.16, while the average score of received services was 3.06. The overall conformity level was 96.89%, indicating a noticeable gap that needs improvement. The highest satisfaction was found in the item "reception staff friendliness" (98.39%), while the lowest was "nurses' attention to patients’ physical and emotional conditions" (95.15%). These findings highlight the need to improve the quality of interpersonal communication in healthcare through communication training and continuous service quality evaluation.

Abstract

This study explores community empowerment and nutritional interventions to address stunting in Purangi Subdistrict, Sendana District, Palopo City, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. The primary objective is to enhance community capacity and improve the nutritional status of children under five years of age using the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach. This method leverages local assets, including community seed gardens and the transformation of land into nutrition gardens. Interventions included the provision of nutrition packages, caregiving, and the introduction of moringa leaf pudding as an innovative complementary food. Nutritional progress was monitored through the EPPBGM application provided by the local health center. Implemented from September to October 2024, the program yielded promising outcomes. Community assets were effectively mobilized through coordinated efforts with the local government and related agencies. As a result, one child successfully transitioned out of the stunting category. Nevertheless, further investigation is required to analyze the nutritional composition of the moringa pudding and evaluate its long-term effectiveness as a dietary intervention.

Abstract

In the development of modern learning, the use of digital media as a modern learning tool is increasingly important to encourage the effectiveness of the learning process. One of the teaching media innovations that can be used to attract students' interest in mastering the material is the Word Wall game. This study investigates the effect of the Word Wall game on students’ vocabulary mastery compared to conventional instruction, addressing the urgent need for engaging digital media to enhance English learning in secondary schools. Employing a quasi-experimental quantitative design with pretests and posttests, the research involved 40 eighth-grade students at MTs Muhammadiyah 1 Samarinda in the 2024/2025 academic year, selected through purposive sampling. The experimental group received vocabulary instruction using the Word Wall game, while the control group followed traditional methods. Results show substantial improvement in the experimental class (pretest 56.50; posttest 82.50) compared to the control group (pretest 58.00; posttest 68.50). The independent t-test yielded a significance value of 0.001, indicating a statistically significant effect of the Word Wall game. This study contributes evidence that digital game-based media can effectively support vocabulary acquisition. However, the limited sample suggests the need for broader and longitudinal research.

Abstract

Student-centered learning has become a prominent focus in modern education, encouraging approaches that promote learners’ active participation and emotional engagement. Mindful learning, which emphasizes awareness, reflection, and present-moment focus, has been shown to support these goals. However, few studies have explored how it is practically implemented in English Language Teaching (ELT) classrooms. This study aims to investigate the implementation of mindful learning strategies in English Language Teaching (ELT) and their impact on student motivation and engagement. Using a mixed-methods approach, the research involved one English teacher and 30 eighth-grade students at MTS Muslimin Indonesia Center Samarinda. Data were collected through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, and pre- and post-intervention student motivation and engagement questionnaires. The observation results revealed that teachers had begun to apply mindful learning principles such as focused attention and reflection, although not yet in a systematic manner. Major challenges faced by teachers included time constraints, lack of formal training, and initial resistance from students. Quantitative analysis showed a significant increase in student motivation and engagement scores following the implementation of mindful learning strategies. These findings support the application of mindful approaches in ELT and highlight their benefits for enhancing students’ learning experiences. The study also emphasizes the need for institutional support and structured teacher training to ensure more effective implementation of this approach.
