Abstract

The rapid growth of social media, particularly TikTok, has created a new space for the dissemination of religious messages. This phenomenon raises questions about how piety is represented and reinterpreted in the digital sphere by urban youth. This study aims to analyze the forms of piety representation in Islamic preaching content on TikTok and to explore the reception of urban audiences toward such messages. A qualitative descriptive method was employed, using digital ethnography to observe five videos from three popular creators—@kadamsidik00, @amazmii, and @risyad_bay—along with audience responses in the comment sections. The findings reveal that Islamic preaching content on TikTok represents piety through three main dimensions: moral, ritual, and symbolic. Audience responses show diverse patterns, ranging from appreciative, critical, and reflective to humorous, reflecting the plurality of ways in which young urban audiences interpret religious messages. These findings emphasize that social media functions as a new discursive space where urban communities construct and negotiate their religious identities. Significantly, this study contributes to academic discourse by applying Stuart Hall’s theory of representation to the context of digital da’wah, while also offering practical insights for content creators, educators, and Islamic institutions in designing communication strategies that resonate with the dynamics of the digital generation.

Abstract

Environmental crises, such as forest and land fires (karhutla) in Central Kalimantan, pose severe ecological, social, and economic threats, demanding immediate and context-sensitive ethical responses. This study asserts that religion, particularly Islamic ecotheology, plays a critical role in shaping environmental ethics and guiding sustainable practices among Muslim communities. Using a qualitative approach through literature review and media document analysis (2019–2025), the study explores how Islamic teachings can be applied to address these ecological challenges. The findings reveal three main points. First, Islamic environmental ethics highlight human responsibility as khalifah (stewards of the earth) to maintain mizan (balance) and pursue maṣlaḥah (public good), yet these values are not fully reflected in community practices, as land burning persists. Second, Islamic ecotheology has been promoted through fatwas, organizational movements, and eco-education programs, though its impact is limited without strong law enforcement and community participation. Third, integrating Islamic principles with Dayak local wisdom and collaborative governance enhances practical solutions for fire prevention and ecological stewardship. Overall, Islamic ecotheology offers both normative guidance and actionable frameworks, emphasizing the synergy of religion, culture, and policy in mitigating environmental crises in Central Kalimantan.

Abstract

In recent years, social media has become an important arena for expressing religious identity, including the emergence of digital Sufism among urban Muslims. This study examines how urban Sufism is represented in digital media that blends Sufi values with elements of popular culture, addressing the limited scholarly attention toward its role in shaping contemporary religious identity. This qualitative research employs content analysis and library study, drawing data from YouTube and Instagram. The analysis is guided by Stuart Hall’s theory of representation and Charles Taylor’s theory of identity. The findings show that digital representations of urban Sufism function not only as a medium of da‘wah but also as a dynamic space where pious identity is negotiated and socially validated through online engagement. These representations illustrate how Islamic spirituality adapts to urban lifestyles while interacting with global popular culture. However, the phenomenon also raises concerns such as spiritual simplification, authority fragmentation, and the commodification of religiosity. The study concludes that maintaining authenticity and spiritual depth is crucial for content creators and preachers in utilizing digital platforms for inclusive da‘wah.

Abstract

Anxiety disorders in Generation Z students have increased significantly due to academic pressure and the influence of social media, with Riskesdas 2023 data showing a high prevalence at the age of 15-24 years. This study aims to analyze the role of Islamic religious practices as a coping strategy in maintaining the mental health of Muslim students of Generation Z. The research uses a qualitative approach with a dual case study method on three students of UIN Palangka Raya through purposive sampling. Data were collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews, nonparticipant observations, and documentation, with validity guaranteed through triangulation and member examination. The results show that religious practices play an important role in bringing mental calm, reducing anxiety and overthinking, and strengthening resilience to academic stress. Prayer is the main coping mechanism, dhikr and Qur'an recitation function as a spiritual relaxation technique, strengthened by social support from families and campus communities. Religious practices are effective because they provide a framework of existential meaning that helps students reinterpret academic stressors in a broader spiritual perspective, while also activating physiological relaxation responses. These findings provide practical implications for the development of spiritualbased counseling programs and campus policies that integrate religious support in student mental health services.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of Religious Coping (RCOPE), particularly its positive form, in helping Generation Z university students deal with academic burnout in the post-pandemic era. Academic burnout among students has intensified, marked by emotional exhaustion, cynicism toward learning, and reduced academic achievement, influenced by academic, personal, social, and physical factors. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this study explores students’ in-depth experiences in responding to academic pressures. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with students experiencing burnout and analyzed using thematic analysis to identify key themes and patterns. The findings reveal that positive RCOPE such as prayer, worship, Qur’anic recitation, and spiritual meaningmaking serves as the most effective strategy, providing emotional calmness, enhancing self-regulation, and restoring learning motivation. Non-religious coping strategies offer only short-term relief, while negative RCOPE risks worsening psychological conditions. Overall, the study demonstrates that positive RCOPE functions as an adaptive mechanism and a resilience foundation that enables students to respond more constructively to academic stress. These results highlight the importance of integrating spiritual-based guidance into higher education support systems to strengthen students’ well-being and academic persistence.

Abstract

Abstract

This study investigates the integration of technology acceptance and pedagogical deep learning in Islamic Religious Education (IRE), where deep learning is conceptualized as a pedagogical approach that emphasizes meaningful understanding, reflective thinking, and enjoyable engagement, rather than artificial intelligence-based deep learning. Although previous studies have extensively examined technology acceptance and deep learning independently, empirical studies integrating the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) with pedagogical deep learning in the context of Islamic education are still limited. To address this gap, this study uses a quantitative survey design involving 321 teachers and students selected through simple random sampling from a population of 1,287 participants. Data were collected using a validated Likert scale questionnaire (Cronbach's Alpha = 0.874) and analyzed through descriptive statistics and simple linear regression using SPSS version 25. The results of the study indicate that acceptance of TAM-based learning media has a significant and positive effect on the implementation of pedagogical deep learning (R² = 0.542, t = 12.884, p <0.001), showing that 54.2% of the variance in deep learning practices is explained by technology acceptance. Descriptive analysis shows that Perceived Usefulness recorded the highest average score among TAM constructs (M = 4.26), while Meaningful Learning emerged as the most dominant dimension in pedagogical learning (M = 4.23). Theoretically, this study expands TAM by positioning technology acceptance as a driver of deep, reflective, and value-oriented pedagogical learning in Islamic education. Practically, these findings provide evidence-based guidance for educators and schools in designing technology-supported IRE that promotes meaningful, attentive, and enjoyable learning experiences.

Abstract

Religious education holds a strategic role in shaping young generations who are religious, ethical, and humanistic. However, the reality of Islamic Religious Education in Indonesia is still dominated by cognitive–doctrinal transmission, leading students to become passive recipients with limited opportunities for critical reflection, empathy, and lived moral experience. This condition demonstrates the need for a paradigmatic shift toward a more liberating, dialogical, and human-centered educational model. This article aims to describe the concept of humanistic religious education by positioning Paulo Freire’s Pedagogy of Love as its philosophical and methodological foundation, and to explain its relevance for curriculum development in Indonesian Islamic education. This research uses a literature review with thematic content analysis. The findings indicate that a Pedagogy of Love serves as a transformative framework that promotes dialogue, empathy, egalitarian teacher–student relations, and critical awareness. It shifts religious education beyond cognitive transfer toward affective–moral formation and social responsibility. Therefore, a Pedagogy of Love-based humanistic approach is essential for strengthening Islamic Religious Education in Indonesia. Future research is recommended to develop operational implementation models so this pedagogical concept can be applied concretely in classroom and madrasah settings.
