Abstract

Tafsir Tarbawi learning in higher education often experiences methodological obstacles so that the learning atmosphere becomes monotonous and less interesting, especially for millennials and Z generations who need interactive and fun learning methods. This study aims to examine the application of the Joyful Learning approach and its impact on student motivation and understanding. The research used a qualitative method with a case study approach to third semester students of the Islamic Education Study Program at UIN Palangka Raya. Data were collected through participatory observation during the learning process, semi-structured interviews with selected students, and document analysis in the form of teaching materials and student assignments. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis techniques to identify patterns and main themes related to the effectiveness of the Joyful Learning approach. Data validity was maintained through triangulation of data sources and methods, as well as member checking with research participants. The results showed that the application of Joyful Learning - through ice breaking activities, mind-mapping discussions, creative presentations, and interactive quizzes - succeeded in creating a lively and participatory classroom atmosphere. The positive impact can be seen from the increase in enthusiasm, contextual understanding of tarbawi verses, critical thinking skills, and students' emotional and intellectual engagement. This research contributes to the development of innovative and humanist Tafsir Tarbawi learning methods and opens up opportunities for further research with a wider scope and more comprehensive methods.

Abstract

Students' non academic skills, especially soft skills, have not received much attention in the evaluation of Islamic values based programs. In fact, activities such as Muhadharah have the potential to support the development of these aspects. This study aims to thoroughly evaluate the effectiveness of the Muhadharah program in developing students' soft skills using the CIPP (Context, Input, Process, Product) evaluation model. A mixed methods approach was used, with data collection through questionnaires, interviews, observation, and documentation. Quantitative data were analyzed using percentage and Respondent Achievement Rate (TCR) techniques, while qualitative data were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the Muhadharah program was in the “good” category in all four aspects of the evaluation. The program is relevant to students' needs, supported by adequate resources, implemented in a structured manner, and has a positive impact on improving speaking skills, self-confidence, cooperation, and other social skills. The study concluded that Muhadharah is an effective strategy in shaping soft skills through a religious approach. The implication of this study shows that the integration of religious activities and character strengthening is a relevant approach for modern Islamic education and can be replicated in other educational units with similar characteristics.

Abstract

This study discusses how Islamic spirituality contributes to improving the mental well-being of elderly people in Palangka Raya. Elderly people often experience declines in physical, mental, and social health, which can lead to depression, anxiety, and feelings of loneliness due to loss, health problems, and social isolation. Although awareness of mental health is growing, services aimed at the elderly in Palangka Raya are still very minimal. Using qualitative methods and conducting interviews with two elderly Muslims aged over 60 years, this study found that spirituality in the context of Islam provides inner peace through worship practices such as prayer, increases gratitude, strengthens social relationships, and provides meaning in life. In particular, prayer brings peace and helps the elderly to remain grateful, even in the midst of challenges. Spiritual activities also promote social support and close interpersonal relationships. Elderly people who have strong spirituality usually have a deep belief in life after death, which gives them purpose and meaning in life, and helps them cope with the difficulties that arise in old age. It is hoped that this study can be an important source of information for the community and contribute to the development of theories and practices of spirituality in elderly care.

Abstract

Student well-being has become an increasingly critical concern amid demanding curricula and intense academic competition, particularly in boarding schools. However, this aspect is often overlooked as schools tend to prioritize academic achievement over holistic development. This study aims to examine the level of student well-being at Hasanka Islamic Boarding School in Palangka Raya using a four-dimensional framework encompassing having, loving, being, and health. Employing a mixed-methods approach with an explanatory sequential design, the quantitative phase collected data from 123 students selected through proportionate stratified random sampling based on the Slovin formula. The qualitative phase involved interviews, observations, and documentation to validate and enrich the survey findings. Results revealed that most students reported a moderate level of school well-being. The having and being dimensions achieved the highest mean scores, underscoring the importance of adequate facilities and opportunities for self-fulfillment in fostering well-being. In contrast, the loving and health dimensions scored lowest, indicating that social connectedness and physical-mental health remain vulnerable aspects in boarding school environments characterized by dense and competitive curricula. The findings highlight the necessity for integrated school strategies that balance academic rigor with students’ physical health, mental resilience, and social support systems to promote holistic well-being within the school context at school level, especially in Indonesia.

Abstract

Radicalism and fundamentalism in contemporary Islam have become pressing global issues that significantly affect social, political, and cultural dynamics. This study adopts a qualitative approach through library research to analyze the relationship between radicalism, fundamentalism, and contemporary Islamic theology as an alternative framework. The findings indicate that radicalism is often rooted in literal and partial religious interpretations, socio-political dissatisfaction, and cultural resistance to modernization. Fundamentalism, meanwhile, provides the ideological foundation for exclusivism and intolerance, which in turn can escalate into radical practices. In response, contemporary Islamic theology emphasizes rational, critical, and contextual approaches that prioritize dialogue, pluralism, inclusivity, and humanism. By reconstructing religious thought, reinterpreting sacred texts, and applying these perspectives in education and social institutions, contemporary theology serves as a strategic instrument to counter radical ideologies. This article argues that revitalizing contemporary Islamic theology is essential to fostering moderate, tolerant, and humanistic religious practices that remain relevant to modern challenges while upholding universal values of peace and justice.

Abstract

The global environmental crisis, marked by climate change, deforestation, pollution, and the increasing frequency of natural disasters, requires stronger ecological awareness, particularly among younger generations. Generation Z, as digital natives, holds great potential to become agents of change in integrating religious values with ecological concern. This study aims to analyze Generation Z’s perception of ecotheology and environmental awareness in religious contexts. The method employed is a literature review with content analysis of eight scholarly articles discussing ecotheology, disaster theology, youth movements, Islamic education, and global spirituality perspectives. The findings reveal that Generation Z tends to adopt a more critical perspective on environmental issues compared to previous generations and is able to connect faith-based values with ecological practices through social movements, education, and digital platforms. The study concludes that Generation Z plays a crucial role in shaping ecotheological narratives that are both religious and adaptive to modern challenges, thereby fostering a Muslim generation that is religious, ecological, and prepared to face global environmental crises.

Abstract

The veil, often perceived as a simple piece of clothing, holds complex meanings within urban society, serving as both a social phenomenon and a potent religious symbol. This article delves into the intricate dynamics of the veil within the context of contemporary urban life. It explores the dual nature of the veil, where it is not merely a garment but also a profound symbol of religious identity, modesty, and devotion. By examining the urban context, this research provides insights into how the veil is embraced, interpreted, and experienced by diverse communities residing in cities. The article discusses the complex social, cultural, and religious dynamics surrounding the veil and highlights its role in shaping personal and collective identities. Furthermore, it explores the challenges and debates faced by urban communities in accommodating the diversity of veiling practices and their implications for social cohesion and integration. This study offers valuable insights into the broader discourse on religious expression and cultural diversity within urban environments, emphasizing the need for a deeper understanding of the significance of the veil in contemporary society.
