Abstract

Toxoplasma gondii is an obligate intracellular parasite that can cause toxoplasmosis infection. About 60% of the world's population has been infected. Toxoplasma cerebri is one of the most common opportunistic infections in the central nervous system of HIV patients. The disease is acute and chronic, with mild symptoms that are non-specific so it is difficult to distinguish from other diseases or is often asymptomatic. The incidence of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) occupies the highest place in Asia with high morbidity and mortality. Toxoplasma is ranked in the top 10 opportunistic diseases as a direct cause of morbidity and mortality, with variable symptoms and reactivation. The purpose of the study: to detect Toxoplasma gondii from blood samples of patients with HIV/Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS). In immunocompromised conditions, especially HIV/AIDS, symptoms of severe complications will arise, one of which is toxsoplasma encephalitis (TE). The high rate of morbidity and mortality of TE in HIV/AIDS patients, around 30-40%, makes an accurate diagnosis important. Research Methods: The study design used was cross sectional to determine the level of IgG Toxoplasma Gondii antibodies in HIV patients and serologically. The research subjects were 30 individual subjects who were positive for HIV infection, of which 30 patients would be screened for the levels of IgG Toxoplasma Gondii antibodies and then see the correlation with lifestyle and food consumed. The achievement target of this research is to find out whether HIV patients have levels of IgG Toxoplasma Gondii antibodies through serological tests, so that appropriate therapy and education can be given for the treatment of toxoplasmosis, so that these results can be published scientifically in national journals, and become paper material in scientific meetings.

Abstract

Tilapia Lake Virus (TiLV) is a New Emerging Disease that has been defined and included in the WOAH disease list (WOAH, 2022). This virus can infect both freshwater and marine fish, causing high mortality in Ttilapia up to 90%. Reverse transcyptase method - Semi Nested Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-snPCR) for detection of TiLV in Osphronemus goramy. TiLV was discovered for the first time in Thailand and was also found in Jogjakarta in 2021. Further research is needed to see the damage and genetic variation caused by TiLV in Osphronemus goramy. This study aims to study the genetic variability and homology of TiLV isolates in Osphronemus goramy as definitive hosts in East Java. The results showed clinical symptoms of lethargic fish, decreased appetite, abnormal behavior, reduced reflexes, sluggish movements, darker body color, congestion, thinning fins and exopthalmia. The PCR results showed that the Osphronemus goramy showing clinical symptoms of TiLV infection were all positive. The sequencing results were further identified using the BLAST program, showing the highest similarity of the genetic identity of the sample at 96.8% with TiLV from Israel (Genebank Accession Number NC 029927.1).

Abstract

Giant grouper is a highly sought-after cultivated fish in Indonesia due to its high market value. One of the challenges in grouper aquaculture is the infestation of the sea leech ektoparasite Zeylanicobdella arugamensis. The prevalence rate of ektoparasite infestation reaches up to 100%. An effective method to manage ektoparasite infestation is through molecular profiling, serving as preliminary literature in the development of molecular biology efforts to overcome cultivation challenges in giant grouper. This research aims to study the homology and relationship of Zeylanicobdella arugamensis on giant grouper in East Java, specifically in Lamongan, Mandangin, Situbondo, and Lombok. The method used is RT-PCR with mtDNA COI gene primers. Molecular sequence data were collected from samples and compared with data from NCBI GenBank, and analyzed using Neighbor-joining phylogenetic tree method and homology data analysis on BLAST. The research results indicate clinical symptoms in giant grouper including swelling, lesions/wounds, pale skin, decreased appetite, and fin erosion. Electrophoresis results from PCR products show a single band at 750bp for samples from Lamongan, Situbondo, Mandangin, and Lombok. DNA sequencing results on NCBI BLAST and homology analysis against the reference gene were conducted. Homology analysis results between samples from Situbondo and Lamongan show the highest similarity at 98.28%, whereas the lowest similarity is between samples from Mandangin and Situbondo at 88.51%. Based on phylogenetic tree analysis, samples from Lamongan and Situbondo waters show a close relationship with a genetic distance of 0.009272.

Abstract

This study aimed to provide the impact of acidifier supplementation on feed consumption, body weight gain (BWG), feed efficiency, and feed conversion ratio (FCR) in broiler chickens infected with Avian Pathogenic Escherichia coli (APEC). The use of acidifiers is proposed as a potential solution to improve gut health and nutrient absorption. This study employed a completely randomized design (CRD). Forty broiler chickens, ages 1 to 35, were utilized in this study, and the treatment started at 8 days of age. There were 5 treatments and 4 replications for each treatment, with 2 broiler chicks in each replication. The treatments consisted of negative control, without APEC infection (P0), positive control, with APEC infection (P1), infected with APEC with 0.1% of Antibiotic Growth Promoters in the diet (P2), and infected with APEC with additional feed acidifier 0.5% (P3). This study analyzed its effect on feed consumption, Body Weight Gain (BWG), Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR), and feed efficiency. Also, the business analysis was carried out by calculating the contribution margin (CM). Data was statistically analyzed using one way-analysis of variance (ANOVA), followed by Duncan's multiple range test to determine any statistical differences (p<0.05). The research results show that adding an acidifier to the diet does not reduce the feed consumption value but can increase BWG, reduce the FCR value (p<0.05), improve feed efficiency, and increase the contribution margin in broiler chicken farming. It concludes that adding 0.5% acidifier to the feed can improve broiler chickens infected with APEC production performance.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the administration of super booster, and immunobooster concentrates on production performance and farmers' income following an outbreak of foot and mouth disease (FMD) by proving the improvements in production performance, including feed consumption, weight gain, and revenue of crossbred Limousin cattle farmers. This study used 18 male Limousin crossbred cattle selected based on age (1.5-2 years) and having been infected with FMD virus that is divided into three treatments: T0 (control feed consisting of forage and local concentrate), T1 (control feed + 40 g of a super booster), and T2 (control feed + 600 g of immunobooster concentrate). Data collection and observation were conducted over 42 days. Statistical analysis was performed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) based on the completely randomized design (CRD), followed by Duncan’s multiple range test (DMRT). The results of the variance analysis showed a p-value of <0.05, indicating that the addition of super booster and immunobooster can improve feed consumption, body weight gain, and increase farmers income in crossbred Limousin cattle farming following an outbreak of FMD, so that it can be used as an alternative step in overcoming post-FMD losses and helping farmers maximize profits.
