Abstract

Learning in the era of the new university regulations experienced a revolution in students’ learning style and teachers’ teaching style because this situation caused many changes in the learning system. Different types of learning alternatives are carried out to achieve learning that meets these conditions. Integrative STEM was selected as one of the learning models in the new order era. However, inclusive STEM learning is difficult to do without support or learning tools, especially in distance learning. Based on these needs, this research was carried out to develop support devices for the integrative STEM model in university physics class students. This research is research and development (R&D). The development model used uses a 4D development model. The 4D model is synonymous with definition, design, development, and dissemination. In this study, an assistive device model was developed in an integrative MINT learning device. The analysis results show that the development of integrative learning tools based on STEM for students is rated as good, with an average of 80%.

Abstract

The western happiness scale measures those material aspects, so it will not be objective when applied in low-income countries. Furthermore, Countries with high happiness ratings, which may ignore the importance of spirituality, have significantly higher rates of depression and suicide. Islam is the highest source of spirituality for its adherents. They believe happiness cannot only be measured by the material aspect and ignore the spiritual part. This study aims to develop a happiness scale that measures Muslim spiritual-material aspects. We used a development research approach to design an instrument based on the thoughts of Abdullah bin Abbas, test its validity, and estimate its reliability. The authors found Seven sub-scales and thirty-one valid items for Muslim spiritual happiness. The current instrument of happiness can be used to measure the spiritual happiness of Muslims. The authors expected that these findings encourage other researchers to improve the current version and develop a better and more valid instrument.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze item parameters' characteristics and estimate prospective physics teachers' ability on the Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) Instrument using the Generalized Partial Credit Model (GPCM). The research subjects were 251 prospective physics teacher students in two universities concerned with producing prospective teacher graduates. Two-Tier Multiple Choice (TTMC) forms with a polytomous score of four categories make up the test instrument. Data analysis includes two stages: testing assumptions and the suitability of the Politomus IRT model. The results showed that the most suitable polytomous scoring IRT model was GPCM2PL. The item parameter analysis for the HOTS Instrument test shows the discriminating power parameter (a) value for all items included in the good category, namely the interval 0.00 to 2.00. The difficulty level analysis (b) also shows the percentage of 100% of items included in the medium category because the b value of all items is in the interval (-2) to (2).

The current curriculum focuses on three domains, one of which is cognitive. Cognitive abilities are very important for the development of individual competencies so that instruments to measure them must be carried out. High quality cognitive instruments are needed in the assessment. Assessment with High Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) orientation as an effort to implement 6c, namely communication, collaboration, critical thinking, creative thinking, also computational logic and concern by developing cognitive instruments in Sociology scientific assessment. The method used is Research and Development which is focused on development. Cognitive instruments were compiled and carried out content validity from 4 experts for Sociology, Education and Law which were then tested on 93 students through a questionnaire in the form of google form. Analysis of the data used is by using software iteman 4.3. The results of this study are cognitive instruments with 15 HOTS questions in the form of multiple choice using content validity with Aiken's count obtained a score of 0.75 to 0.9375 so it is included in the medium and high categories. The instrument has an Alpha score of 0.558 so it is included in the reliable category. For items that have a difficulty level of 0.637, it means that the difficulty of the questions is moderate and the positive discriminatory power with a number of 0.243 is in the medium category. Then the distractor on the answer choices in the question items can function well because most of them are 0.05.

Abstract

Mechanical waves conceptual survey (MWCS) is a measurement tool established by the physics education research (PER) community to evaluate conceptual physics understanding of mechanical waves. A validation study is still needed to figure out the factor structure of MWCS using two data reduction techniques, namely exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and principal component analysis (PCA). The MWCS dataset in this paper was gathered from physics students (n = 419) from nineteen Ugandan secondary schools. The findings of this research suggested the single factor of the MWCS construct that has emerged from the dataset explored in this study. Several issues involved in the calculation of inter-item correlation within the dataset are suspected as the leading cause of the missing component solution or stable loading in the data. Moreover, there might be other issues that leave open space for future exploration. The findings reported in this paper could be the subject of further discussion in evaluating the validity of the MWCS as a research-based assessment (RBA) to measure students' conceptual understanding of wave mechanics within PER studies.
