Abstract

Abstract

This study explores how language reflects and negotiates cultural identity, power, and social relations through an ethnographic analysis of communication in the 2018 film Green Book. The research is grounded in the need to understand how communication functions as a bridge across cultural and racial divisions, particularly in media representations set within historically segregated contexts. Employing a qualitative content analysis design, the study applies Dell Hymes’ S.P.E.A.K.I.N.G. model to analyze the main character’s communicative practices throughout the film. Focusing on three key components—setting, participants, and ends—the analysis reveals a significant transformation in the character’s speech, evolving from culturally insensitive and informal language toward more empathetic, respectful, and contextually appropriate communication. These changes reflect a broader process of identity negotiation and cultural awareness shaped by dynamic social interactions. The findings contribute to the field of sociolinguistics by illustrating how communicative competence is constructed and reshaped in intercultural contexts, and they also offer insights for media and cultural studies on how film can serve as a site for representing and critiquing social norms and values.

Abstract

This research examines the application of Lyotard's postmodernist perspective in Natural Sciences (IPA) learning to deconstruct big narratives and identify the potential of small narratives. The research method uses a qualitative descriptive approach by collecting data through interviews, classroom observations, curriculum document analysis, and case studies. The aim of the research is to describe Lyotard's postmodernist perspective in deconstructing big narratives, analyzing the impact of big narratives and identifying the potential of small narratives in science learning, analyzing the impact of big narratives in science learning. The research results show that grand narratives provide a broad conceptual framework that helps students understand global issues. However, these narratives are often abstract and therefore difficult to relate to students' daily lives. In contrast, small narratives involving students' local experiences can make learning more relevant and meaningful. Integrating large and small narratives creates more inclusive, relevant and dynamic learning. Grand narratives provide a global framework, while small narratives bridge abstract concepts with real experiences, increasing learner understanding, motivation, and engagement. This combination not only deepens scientific understanding but also builds students' critical thinking and social responsibility skills. Local project-based learning strategies, simple experiments, and exploration of local wisdom are suggested to optimize the integration of these two narratives.

Abstract

The development of student character has become a primary concern in the field of education, particularly in instilling the values of discipline from an early age. One relevant approach in this effort is the Moral Knowing approach, which emphasizes the importance of moral understanding and knowledge in shaping behavior. This study aims to describe the implementation of the Moral Knowing approach in shaping students' discipline character at SDN 02 Ngadiluwih. This approach is believed to foster students' moral awareness as a foundation for acting in accordance with prevailing values. This study employs a descriptive qualitative method. Data were collected through observation, interviews with teachers and students, and documentation of school activities. The research subjects consisted of classroom teachers, students, and the principal. Data were analyzed through the processes of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the Moral Knowing approach is implemented through various strategies, such as habituation of morning and afternoon routines, teacher role modeling, use of visual media like character value posters, and student involvement in extracurricular activities that emphasize discipline, such as Scouts. Through these activities, students not only learn the meaning of discipline but also understand the moral reasons behind it and demonstrate more orderly behavior in both academic and social activities. The conclusion of this study is that the Moral Knowing approach is effective in shaping students’ discipline character through the enhancement of moral awareness, the reinforcement of values, and consistent habituation within the school environment.

Abstract

The term Deep Learning has become the current issue in educational field all around the globe. Deep learning is true learning, in the sense, that it is enduring, as opposed to shallow or surface learning that tends to be momentary. This term was proposed by Fullan et al. to refer to the process of acquiring the global competencies known as the 6Cs: character, citizenship, collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking. These competencies are suitable to prepare students to be confident in encountering globalization challenges. Deep learning is designed based on a new pedagogical model, a learning partnership between and among students and teachers to master of content knowledge, create and use new knowledge in the real world. The focus of teaching is to develop students’ ability to manage their own learning and to do things with their learning. In Indonesian context, Deep Learning is implemented based on a framework consisting of four main components: learning framework, learning experience, learning principle, and graduate profile dimension framework. The learning experience framework includes three aspects: understanding, applying and reflecting. In practice, Deep learning is based on three main learning approaches mindful learning, meaningful learning, and joyful learning.

Abstract

The decline in morality and spirituality among adolescents has become a significant challenge in modern education. Junior high school (SMP) is a crucial phase for character formation, particularly in instilling religious values. This study aims to describe and analyze the development of students' religious character at SMP Birrul Walidain Muhammadiyah Plupuh through the lens of Plato’s philosophy of idealism. Using a qualitative case study approach, this research provides a rich, in-depth analysis supported by detailed observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that religious character development is conducted through daily religious habituation, teacher role modeling, and the integration of Islamic values into the learning process. Activities such as congregational prayers, daily Qur'an recitation, weekly Islamic studies, and teachers’ religious examples demonstrate the school’s efforts to guide students toward Plato’s ideals of truth, goodness, and beauty. This study confirms that religious character education goes beyond cognitive learning and serves as a spiritual and moral journey toward the ideal self.
