Abstract

Abstract

The development of the construction and construction sector between contractors in Indonesia is growing rapidly and the death rate is increasing compared to the previous year. In general, the mortality rate is caused by the factor of length of work and the age of the worker. The reason is that age is no longer young when faced with a long job in a day, of course, it will also burden the physical, it's just that the difference caused by age will be decisive. This study aims to determine the relationship between the length of work and the age of workers with the level of work fatigue in road construction workers exposed to sunlight in North Hulu Sungai Regency. This study is an analytical test, with a cross sectional design. The population in this study amounted to 30 road construction workers and the research sample was taken from all populations. Data analysis using the Chisquare test. The results of the Chi-square statistical test showed that there was a relationship between working length and work fatigue p = 0.023 < 0.05 and there was a relationship between working age and work fatigue p = 0.029 < 0.05. It is recommended to optimize their rest time and be able to stretch their muscles between jobs. For companies, there is a limit on working hours of a maximum of 8 hours/day and urges workers to exercise before work.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the water quality and phytoplankton abundance in Lake Toba to determine its trophic status. This research was conducted from January to March 2024 at four stations in Lake Toba. Water samples were taken using a UWITEC water sampler and a plankton net and brought to the laboratory for analysis. The study measured physical and chemical water quality and phytoplankton abundance. The results showed a brightness ranging between 5.8 and 6.3 meters, chlorophyll-a content <10 µg/L, total nitrogen <750 µg/L, and phosphorus ranging from 20 µg/L to 30 µg/L. Based on these parameters, the nutrient quality of Lake Toba was classified as mesotrophic. Phytoplankton abundance ranged from 22,514 to 33,475 individuals/L, with 33 genera identified across nine classes: Bacillariophyceae, Chlorophyceae, Cyanophyceae, Coscinodiscophyceae, Dinophyceae, Euglenida, Fragilariophyceae, Mediophyceae, and Zygnemophyceae. The diversity index (H') was 2.631 - 2.723, the uniformity index (E) was 0.828 - 0.872, and the percentage of blue-green algae was 14.75 - 20.85. Zygnemophyceae was the most dominant phytoplankton class, with Staurastrum sp. being the most prevalent species. In conclusion, Lake Toba's waters are categorized as mesotrophic based on the chemical parameters and as eutrophic based on phytoplankton abundance, indicating potential nutrient enrichment issues that warrant further investigation.

Abstract

Wastewater treatment for small-scale motorcycle washing businesses must be efficient, not require large areas of land, be easy to operate and be economical. Through this study, it is hoped that the community can apply it to the motorcycle washing business through wastewater treatment using a simple filtration method. The method chosen for this community service activity is the provision of material/counseling, discussion, and continued training in making motorbike washing waste processing equipment (APel CiTor). This activity is specifically aimed at car wash entrepreneurs whose waste has not been treated. The decrease in detergent levels is also caused by the filter media used, namely sand and banana stems. Sand whose nature is in the form of porous, degraded, and uniformity-free grains. With materials that are relatively easy to find, the community (motorcycle wash entrepreneurs) are already able to make ApeL CiTor (motorcycle washing waste processing equipment) at their respective business locations.

Abstract

Many commercial yogurt brands do not have a minimum total lactic acid bacteria count (107 CFU/g) due to long distribution with inappropriate storage condition. This leads local producers to produce yogurt. However, commercial yogurt maker machines commonly have a low capacity of 0.5 to 2 L. This study aims to design a yogurt maker machine with a capacity of 15 L with a temperature setting of 37 – 45 ℃. The design and flow system were conducted by arranging the electronic components consisting of 5V 4 channel relay, ESP32 module, DS18B20 temperature sensor, RTC, 12V fan (along with 12 VDC connecting components), 220V heater, 20×4 LCD and plugs (adapter) 220 VAC cable. The yogurt maker machine was evaluated for accuracy of temperature readings (DS18B20 sensor and thermometer), response to incubation time and plain yogurt making. The T-Test was used to compare the differences between the two types of sensors measuring instruments. The results showed that the accuracy of temperature readings using the DS18B20 sensor was better than a thermometer, with a distance scale of 0.35-0.75 ℃ (P-value ≤ 0.05). Temperature testing using milk can be carried out with a temperature range of 37-45 ℃ for 12 h. Keywords:  DS18B20, Temperature, Yogurt maker machine, Sensors

Abstract

Ground roasted coconut is used as a cooking spice, especially in Aceh, with distinctive aroma and fragrant taste. This study aimed to examine the effect of drying time and roasting time on the sensory and physicochemical characteristics of roasted coconut. This research was designed with two treatment factors in triplicate. First factor was the drying time (1, 3, and 5 h), and second factor was roasting time (5 and 10 min). The results showed that drying time has a significant effect on the aroma, color, taste, and air content. The longer the drying time, the higher the sensory characteristics: aroma, color, and taste of ground roasted coconut, but the percentage of water content of the roasted coconut produced is lower. The roasting time also affected the taste and aroma of ground roasted coconut. The longer the roasting process, the higher the sensory characteristics of the taste and aroma of ground roasted coconut. The interaction of drying time and roasting time only has an effect on the sensory taste of ground roasted coconut. Drying time and roasting time did not significantly affectted on fat content and free fatty acid content, both of these parameters are more influenced by other factors, such as drying temperature, harvest age and coconut quality.
