Abstract

Working capital management has an important role on firm profitability especially for retail firms operating in emerging countries. Previous studies have not really considered the influence of macroeconomic conditions on working capital management and firm profitability relation. This paper investigates the impact of working capital management on firm profitability among Indonesian retail firms listed on Indonesia Stock Exchange with the moderation of GDP growth (GDP) and working capital loan interest rate (IR). This study uses panel data regression covering the period of Q1 2016 – Q2 2021. The results show that days inventory outstanding (DIO) has negative impact on gross operating profit (GOP) and return on asset (RoA) while days payable outstanding (DPO) has positive impact on RoA and cash cycle (CCC) has positive impact on gross operating profit (GOP). The results also show that GDP moderates the relationship between CCC components and GOP, while IR moderates the relationship between DIO and both firm profitability indicators, DPO and RoA, CCC and GOP. The results suggest retail firm management to pay attention to its inventories, payables and cash cycle. The management also has to consider the GDP growth and interest rate in managing its working capital. Keywords: macroeconomy, working capital management, profitability, data panel regression, retail

Abstract

The development of Peer-to-Peer Lending (P2PL) fintech in Indonesia was growing fast. In the midst of this rapid growth, a volatile pattern shows the dynamics of the P2PL in terms of its performance. This study aims to map the performance of fintech P2PL. The data used are the total disbursement of loans and non-performing loans obtained from each company's website and aggregate data published by the Financial Services Authority (OJK). In this study, a website scraping from 102 fintech companies was obtained from each platform to obtain Non-Performing Loan (NPL) value and accumulated loan distribution. This study also uses the hierarchical clustering method to group each P2PL based on NPL and accumulated loan disbursement. Based on the hierarchical clustering analysis, three clusters distinguish the characteristics of grouping P2PL companies. In first cluster, there are 3 companies with high distribution and low NPL, while in the second cluster consists of 13 companies categorized as poor performance because they related to the low disbursement and high NPL value. In the third cluster there are 71 companies with moderate disbursement and NPL. Based on this mapping several things need to be improved, starting from developing a risk management and monitoring system, lending and operating supervision. Keywords: Fintech, peer to peer lending, clustering, hierarchical clustering, NPL

Abstract

Insurance literacy plays a crucial role in expanding farmers' access to insurance. Lack of understanding of insurance products and inability to process information prevent farmers from making the right decisions, which leads to low levels of insurance participation. This study aims to analyze the level of knowledge, attitudes, and behavior of farmers towards insurance and examine the factors that influence farmers' insurance literacy. Data were collected directly from 94 farmer households in four sub-districts in Aceh Besar Regency. This study measured farmers' insurance literacy using a questionnaire and then conducted a regression analysis using the ordinary least squares (OLS) method on variables suspected of influencing insurance literacy. The results of this study indicate that farmers' insurance literacy is sufficient literate. Variables such as gender, age, education level, and main occupation significantly affect farmers' understanding of insurance. The average scores of farmers' knowledge, attitudes, and practices towards insurance were 42.23, 71.36, and 46.28, respectively. Education has a significant impact on farmers' knowledge of insurance. This study suggests that the government and other stakeholders can carry out promotional activities, socialization and training periodically to increase insurance knowledge and awareness.

Abstract

The declining productivity of oil palm plantations exceeding the optimal productive age (>25 years) poses significant financial challenges for plantation companies. PT Agricinal experienced a drastic decrease in Fresh Fruit Bunch (FFB) productivity from 6.41 tons/ha/year in 2020 to 3.92 tons/ha/year in 2022—far below the ideal standard of 25–30 tons/ha/year. This condition triggered a replanting decision in 2022 but created a 3–4-year non-productive period (Tanaman Belum Menghasilkan/TBM) without operational revenue. This research aims to analyze the financial feasibility of Barangan banana intercropping on 1,000 ha of replanting land as a revenue optimization solution. The research methodology employs a mixed-methods approach that combines quantitative business feasibility analysis—using Net Present Value (NPV), Internal Rate of Return (IRR), Net Benefit-Cost Ratio (Net B/C), Payback Period (PP), sensitivity analysis, and SWOT analysis indicators—with qualitative insights. Research findings demonstrate that Barangan banana intercropping provides significant improvements in financial feasibility: NPV increased 66.8%, from IDR 58.63 billion to IDR 97.79 billion; IRR increased from 25% to 45%; Net B/C increased from 1.65 to 1.77; and Payback Period shortened from 6 years to 4 years. Sensitivity analysis proves the project's resilience to fluctuations in CPO prices, operational costs, and FFB productivity. The intercropping strategy effectively fills cash flow gaps during the TBM period, enhances land use efficiency, and strengthens plantation business competitiveness. This research concludes that implementing Barangan banana intercropping on oil palm replanting land is feasible and strategic for large-scale application as a sustainable agribusiness model.

Abstract

Abstract

Maintaining the stability of the Rupiah is a core objective of Bank Indonesia’s monetary policy, in which the BI reference rate serves as a primary instrument. In parallel, the Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS) sets the deposit guarantee rate, which influences banks’ funding strategies and deposit-taking behavior. The interaction between these two policy rates is crucial, as it directly shapes the interest rates offered by banks to the public, yet empirical studies on their combined impact in Indonesia remain limited. This study specifically investigates how changes in the BI reference rate and the LPS guarantee rate affect commercial banks’ lending and deposit rates. Using monthly secondary data from Bank Indonesia and LPS spanning January 2015 to December 2023, we apply descriptive statistical analysis and Granger causality testing to capture both correlation and directional influence. The results reveal that both the BI reference rate and the LPS guarantee rate have a statistically significant positive effect on banking interest rates, with the BI reference rate exerting a stronger and more immediate influence, while the LPS guarantee rate demonstrates a lagged effect. These findings provide practical insights for policymakers in synchronizing monetary and deposit insurance policies to enhance financial stability, and contribute to the academic literature by clarifying the dual role of policy rates in shaping banking sector pricing behavior.

Abstract

The high digital penetration in  Jakarta has not been matched by adequate media literacy, particularly among the younger generation. This study proposes an integrative model combining the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and K-Means Clustering to design a data-driven and behaviorally segmented media literacy strategy. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with 15 practitioners and experts, as well as a survey of 202 young respondents aged 15–24 from five regions of  Jakarta. The AHP approach was used to identify priority dimensions of media literacy, encompassing cognitive, technical, ethical, and participatory aspects. K-Means clustering was employed to group individuals based on their digital competency characteristics and to empirically map literacy segmentation patterns. The results reveal three main clusters with significant differences in media usage patterns, ethical awareness, and critical capacities. These findings confirm the importance of adaptive and evidence-based media literacy strategies, rather than merely normative interventions. This integrative model is expected to form the basis for policymaking and the design of media literacy programs in Indonesian urban areas.

Abstract

The low-wage workers play a vital role in supporting in Indonesia's economy but remain highly vulnerable and are often excluded from social protection policies. This study aims to profile low-wage workers and provide insights for policymakers to improve social protection measures. The research utilizes repeated cross-sectional microdata from the National Labor Force Survey (Survei Angkatan Kerja Nasional/Sakernas) between August 2018 and August 2023, a logistic regression model with marginal effects was applied to identify key characteristics of low-wage workers. The findings show that the primary characteristics of low-wage workers are low education levels and working fewer than 20 hours per week. This group is predominantly female, unmarried or divorced, and from younger generations (Gen Z). They are often employed in the informal sector, lacking specific skills, and are mostly working in agriculture. The COVID-19 pandemic worsened their vulnerabilities, amplifying economic risks that persist post-pandemic. The policy implications include expanding educational opportunities to enhance workers' employability, followed by implementing skill training and job placement programs. Additionally, extending minimum wage coverage to both formal and informal sectors, along with offering flexible work arrangements and subsidized childcare, particularly for women, can further support these workers. Furthermore, extending social protection to include social security and healthcare, with incentives for employer contributions, is essential. During crises, policies prioritizing healthcare access, income support, and job protection are crucial for ensuring the economic security of low-wage workers and reducing inequalities.
