Abstract

The 11th Global Food Security Index (2022) shows an increase in agriculture risk and a decline in the food environment for the third year which is feared to threaten global food security.  It is urgent to have more concern for food security in advanced and emerging economies, such as Developing Eight (D-8) economies.  This paper analyzes the determinants of agriculture credit supply in D-8’s banking and how they affect agriculture risk.  The study uses panel quarterly time series data from 2013Q01-2022Q04 and cross-section data from 7 countries as members of the Developing Eight (D8) Organization. This study employs the dynamic panel analysis, Panel Autoregressive Distributed Lag (PARDL) - Pooled Mean Group (PMG) approach. The result shows that agriculture credit supply and its explanatory variables have a significant relationship in the long run. Unfortunately, only previous credit supply and agriculture risk contribute to the agriculture credit supply in the short run. The result varies across countries in the short run.  Banking in Indonesia considers agricultural risk by decreasing the agricultural credit supply while banking in Malaysia and Turkey maintains a positive agricultural credit supply despite the increase in agricultural risk.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of financial performance on firm value with Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as a moderating variable. Financial performance is measured using financial indicators such as Return on Equity (ROE) and Net Profit Margin (NPM), while firm value is represented by Price to Book Value (PBV). The type of research used is quantitative research. The variables used in this study consist of independent variables, namely Financial Performance, dependent variables, namely company value and moderating variables, namely Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The population used in this research is 34 coal mining companies. The sampling technique used purposive sampling with a sample obtained of 19 companies. Data collection techniques using documentation by taking data on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX). Data analysis techniques used using Descriptive Statistical Analysis, regression analysis and Moderate Regression Analysis. The results showed that financial performance as measured by ROE has a positive and significant influence on company value. Meanwhile, NPM has no influence on company value. In addition, CSR is proven to moderate the ROE relationship positively, where companies with good CSR implementation show a higher increase in firm value than companies with low levels of CSR. However, CSR has not been able to moderate NPM on company value. The conclusion of this study is that Return On Equity affects the company's value. Net Profit Margin has no effect on company value, while CSR only moderates the effect of ROE on company value.

Abstract

In response to emerging financial technology (fintech) that might disrupt the banking industry, several financial institutions are undergoing digital transformation. Banks are increasingly integrating digital strategy into their business planning rather than adding it on. This research aims to identify the determinants that influence digital bank transformation. The research was conducted through a systematic literature review of 364 published papers using PRISMA and bibliometric approaches. This method is commonly used in various fields, including medicine, psychology, social sciences, and more, to provide a comprehensive and impartial summary of the current state of knowledge on a particular subject. The approach used in this systematic literature review method is the PRISMA approach. The results of the literature review show that there is an increasing trend of research related to digital banks from 2015 to 2023, which is in line with the trend of digitalization in the banking industry in both developed and developing countries. The analysis is deepened to see the important factors influencing digital bank transformation. The determinants in the digital bank transformation process include the level of digitalization, application user growth, IT investment, IT committee, cyber security, and ecosystem stocks. The results of this literature review will be a reference for further research related to digital banks, in line with the rapid digital transformation process in banking.

Abstract

Maintaining the stability of the Rupiah is a core objective of Bank Indonesia’s monetary policy, in which the BI reference rate serves as a primary instrument. In parallel, the Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS) sets the deposit guarantee rate, which influences banks’ funding strategies and deposit-taking behavior. The interaction between these two policy rates is crucial, as it directly shapes the interest rates offered by banks to the public, yet empirical studies on their combined impact in Indonesia remain limited. This study specifically investigates how changes in the BI reference rate and the LPS guarantee rate affect commercial banks’ lending and deposit rates. Using monthly secondary data from Bank Indonesia and LPS spanning January 2015 to December 2023, we apply descriptive statistical analysis and Granger causality testing to capture both correlation and directional influence. The results reveal that both the BI reference rate and the LPS guarantee rate have a statistically significant positive effect on banking interest rates, with the BI reference rate exerting a stronger and more immediate influence, while the LPS guarantee rate demonstrates a lagged effect. These findings provide practical insights for policymakers in synchronizing monetary and deposit insurance policies to enhance financial stability, and contribute to the academic literature by clarifying the dual role of policy rates in shaping banking sector pricing behavior.

Abstract

An increase in passengers does not always accompany the rise in Garuda Indonesia's customer satisfaction index (CSI). However, even though the number of passengers decreased, income on scheduled airline service showed an increasing trend. On the other hand, this condition has no implications for increasing the company's profitability. This phenomenon is important to study because it will likely decline if it refers to the projection of the number of aircraft passengers in the following year. This problem will, of course, impact the financial condition of the airline company, so it is necessary to do several alternative strategies to overcome it. This study aims to analyze trend of CSI on Garuda Indonesia’s, determine the effect of customer satisfaction (CSI) on Garuda Indonesia's financial performance and formulate an alternative approach to improve the company's financial performance in the future. The results show that customer satisfaction harms financial performance through return on assets (ROA). Firm size is negative to moderate the relationship between CSI and ROA. Meanwhile, sales growth cannot moderate the relationship between CSI and ROA. An alternative strategy that the company can take to improve its financial performance is making efficient operating expenses, including operational flight expenses, ticket expenses, sales, promotions, and passenger service expenses. In addition, the company can also maximize the company's loyalty program. Keywords: customer satisfaction, financial performance, return on assets, airline industry, Garuda Indonesia

Abstract

Working capital management has an important role on firm profitability especially for retail firms operating in emerging countries. Previous studies have not really considered the influence of macroeconomic conditions on working capital management and firm profitability relation. This paper investigates the impact of working capital management on firm profitability among Indonesian retail firms listed on Indonesia Stock Exchange with the moderation of GDP growth (GDP) and working capital loan interest rate (IR). This study uses panel data regression covering the period of Q1 2016 – Q2 2021. The results show that days inventory outstanding (DIO) has negative impact on gross operating profit (GOP) and return on asset (RoA) while days payable outstanding (DPO) has positive impact on RoA and cash cycle (CCC) has positive impact on gross operating profit (GOP). The results also show that GDP moderates the relationship between CCC components and GOP, while IR moderates the relationship between DIO and both firm profitability indicators, DPO and RoA, CCC and GOP. The results suggest retail firm management to pay attention to its inventories, payables and cash cycle. The management also has to consider the GDP growth and interest rate in managing its working capital. Keywords: macroeconomy, working capital management, profitability, data panel regression, retail

Abstract

The development of Peer-to-Peer Lending (P2PL) fintech in Indonesia was growing fast. In the midst of this rapid growth, a volatile pattern shows the dynamics of the P2PL in terms of its performance. This study aims to map the performance of fintech P2PL. The data used are the total disbursement of loans and non-performing loans obtained from each company's website and aggregate data published by the Financial Services Authority (OJK). In this study, a website scraping from 102 fintech companies was obtained from each platform to obtain Non-Performing Loan (NPL) value and accumulated loan distribution. This study also uses the hierarchical clustering method to group each P2PL based on NPL and accumulated loan disbursement. Based on the hierarchical clustering analysis, three clusters distinguish the characteristics of grouping P2PL companies. In first cluster, there are 3 companies with high distribution and low NPL, while in the second cluster consists of 13 companies categorized as poor performance because they related to the low disbursement and high NPL value. In the third cluster there are 71 companies with moderate disbursement and NPL. Based on this mapping several things need to be improved, starting from developing a risk management and monitoring system, lending and operating supervision. Keywords: Fintech, peer to peer lending, clustering, hierarchical clustering, NPL
