Abstract

Hemodialysis (HD) is part of the therapy for chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients to partially replace kidney function. However, the routine process of hemodialysis, which is performed two to three times a week, has an impact to patient’s quality of life. Spiritual-based interventions, such as listening to Quran recitation, are emerging as a complementary-therapies to address the symtomps experienced by patients undergoing hemodialysis. However, the potential use of listening to the quran in patients undergoing hemodialysis remains limited. Therefore, this study aims to explore and assess the effects of listening to Quran recitation in CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis. The scoping review was used in this study. The eligibility criteria of this study, include all full-text primary studies written in English and published between 2015 and 2024. The literature systematically searched using 3 databases, such as PubMed, Scopus, and EbscoHost with keywords "chronic kidney disease AND listening quran OR listening koran AND hemodialysis.” Additionally, search engine, Google Scholar, also used to identify additional literature. A total of 9 articles were included consisting of 3 RCTs and 6 quasi experimental studies. The effects of listening to Quran recitation were divided into two benefit cluster. 1) Psychological benefits, such as reduced anxiety, lower depression, and improved quality of life. 2) Physical benefits, such as improved physical condition and reduced fatigue, lower blood pressure, and reduced systemic inflammation. The findings suggest that Quran recitation can be a valuable, non-invasive adjunctive therapy to support holistic care models for CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis.

Abstract

Ischemic stroke is a cause of physical disability. These defects result in impaired biopsychosociospiritual adaptation in stroke patients. The inability to adapt will cause an anxiety reaction which triggers an increase in cortisol levels. The spiritual care model helps patients find meaning and purpose in life as well as an optimistic attitude so that they have better adaptability. This type of research is Quasy Experimental with a pretest-posttest control group design. The study population was ischemic stroke patients in the Outpatient Department of Dr. Regional General Hospital. Moewardi Surakarta. The total sample consisted of 60 respondents, divided into 30 control group respondents and 30 intervention group respondents, who received a spiritual care model intervention in the outpatient room of Dr RSUD. Moewardi Surakarta. The research results show the influence of the Spiritual Care Model Using Callista Roy's Adaptation Theory Approach on Cortisol Levels in Ischemic Stroke Sufferers with a significance value of 0.043 < 0.05. The Spiritual care model influences the amygdala, which stimulates the hypothalamus through the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, thereby inhibiting the excretion of corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF). The pituitary gland then stimulates adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), which reduces cortisol. This research has a contribution that spiritual care interventions can improve the adaptability of biopsychosocial rehabilitation of stroke patients. This research has a contribution that spiritual care interventions can improve the ability to adapt biopsychosocial rehabilitation of stroke patients.

Abstract

Currently, there are no suggested psychological interventions or outcomes in the diabetic management guidelines. This case report presents the management of a 66-year-old female patient, Mrs. R, with diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) who underwent exploratory laparotomy for retained stone exploration in the common bile duct (CBD). This Case report aimed to explore the implementation of mindfulness in patients post-operative. The patient experienced significant hyperglycemia, with blood glucose levels peaking at 436 mm Hg. Psychological assessment revealed a severe anxiety score of 31, which likely contributed to her unstable glycemic control. Throughout her unstable glycemic control. Throughout her severe condition, the patient was managed with total parenteral nutrition (TPN) due to fasting and green gastric contents, as part of the nursing intervention. Comprehensive nursing interventions, including regular blood glucose monitoring, insulin administration, and psychological support were employed. Mindfulness techniques such as guided meditation and breathing exercises have been introduced to alleviate hospital-induced distress and manage blood glucose levels. Following these interventions, her blood glucose level decreased to 167 mmHg, and the patient reported feeling calmer and more spiritually connected (Hamilton Rating Scale/ HARS 18). This case describes the management of post-surgical diabetic patients, highlighting the benefits of integrating psychological interventions to improve glycemic control and overall patient outcomes. Therefore, psychological interventions, particularly mindfulness, are needed for integration in diabetes management, especially in hospitals.

Abstract

Aims: This study evaluated palliative care services in Indonesia, focusing on proposing a community-based model to enhance cancer care. Method: A mixed-method approach was employed, involving quantitative analysis of 200 patients’ personal and treatment factors and qualitative insights from 21 stakeholders to FGDs and in-depth interviews. Results: The qualitative results highlight five themes: 1) illness as a subjective and culturally influenced concept, 2) family’s role in treatment decision-making, 3) perceptions of healing through multiple treatment modalities, 4) finding positive meaning in illness, and 5) hopes and aspirations for recovery. The quantitative results show that 55.5% of patients had inadequate knowledge, with 69.5% preferring modern therapy. A significant relationship was found between knowledge, perception, and treatment options, while no significant correlation was observed with self-confidence or diagnosis date. Conclusion: An integrated community-based palliative care model tailored to Indonesia’s healthcare system is proposed to improve the quality of life for cancer patients.

Abstract

The expansion and transformation of Mpox (MPX) disease alongside HIV and genital skin diseases has led to an increase in global morbidity and mortality in a relatively brief period. These diseases have a similar transmission pathway through sexual intercourse (mainly MSM/men-sex with males). This review aims to provide a concise, evidence-based overview of MPX, HIV, and genital skin disease coinfections, and to identify epidemiological threats and challenges. Our investigations revealed that from January 2022 to July 2023, there was a significant increase in the number of MPX cases, which reached a total of 88,600, resulting in 152 deaths across 113 countries. There have been case reports of triple-burden disease in six different areas of the world, with at least 52% of reported cases occurring in men who have had sexual activity with other men, 84.1% of whom do not use condoms and do not take pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). In addition, the highest number of deaths due to co-infection with MPX, HIV infection, and genital skin diseases occurred in vulnerable groups (LGBTQIA2S+), especially in men who had sex with men, up to 90.9%, and experienced an increase in the frequency of triple burden diseases to 104.9%. From an epidemiological standpoint, this condition generates several threats and challenges, including an increasing burden of infectious diseases, an increase in immunocompromised populations, an increase in overlapping risk factors, diagnostic difficulties, an increase in interactions and comorbidities, and relatively complex treatment challenges. To suppress these outbreaks and pandemics, comprehensive control and prevention should be proposed collaboratively, including collaboration with the education sector to conduct better research and investigation using one health in complex settings. Epidemiological modeling can be used in the future to accelerate the control of these diseases.

Abstract

Waste remains a complex environmental problem, particularly in rural areas that rely heavily on agricultural and livestock activities. This condition requires sustainable technology-based waste management alternatives to prevent deterioration in sanitation quality, contamination of water sources, and the decline of environmental carrying capacity for community life. Compreng Village, located in Subang Regency, is predominantly inhabited by farmers, making it vulnerable to environmental pollution due to inadequate waste management practices. This Community Service Program was implemented by introducing an alternative waste management approach, namely the utilization of a Biodigester prototype for household organic waste and agricultural residue processing. The program was carried out under the theme “Healthy and Productive Village,” in which community members were trained to convert organic waste into a renewable energy source as a complementary alternative to LPG gas, while the resulting bioslurry was processed into compost fertilizer. The implementation methods consisted of four main stages: program socialization, training on waste segregation and biodigester operation, mentoring for organic waste processing practice, and technology transfer through community-based biodigester prototype application. A pre- and post-program knowledge assessment was also conducted using a paired t-test. The evaluation results narratively indicated that community members were able to utilize the biodigester prototype to manage organic waste and use the produced bioslurry as fertilizer. Additionally, the paired t-test results showed a significant increase in knowledge regarding the use of biodigesters for organic waste management (p < .001). As a recommendation, ongoing evaluation and follow-up planning are necessary to ensure the sustainability of this program, so that it may be applied. Keywords: Biodigester, environment, healthy productive village, waste management.

Abstract

Nursing professional organizations in Indonesia have established standardized guidelines for nursing documentation. However, the formulation of nursing diagnoses is still carried out as a routine activity by nursing teams, resulting in cases where diagnoses are not established according to proper standards. This community service program aimed to improve nurses’ understanding of nursing diagnosis formulation in accordance with Indonesian standards. The activity was implemented using a mini-seminar method involving 30 participants from two hospitals in the Bandung area. It was part of an activity based on Kemmis and McTaggart’s theory. In the preliminary phase, evaluation was conducted using a knowledge scale measurement and documentation observation to assess the number of nursing diagnoses implemented. The results showed an improvement in nurses’ ability to formulate nursing diagnoses, marked by an increase in understanding from only 10% before the activity to 83.33% after, with a p-value <0.001. In addition, the average number of nursing diagnosis labels increased from two to five per nurse. These findings indicate that the mini-seminar method is effective in enhancing nurses’ ability to formulate nursing diagnoses in accordance with established standards. Keywords: Nursing diagnosis, partisipatory research.
