Abstract

The ability possessed by mentally retarded students in reading English is still in the low category compared to students in general. In their learning, mentally retarded students need help in the form of media to make it easier for students to understand the material explained by the teacher. One of the media that can be used in learning is a pictorial crossword puzzle. Besides being able to facilitate understanding, crossword puzzles can also make learning activities more fun. This study aims to determine the reading ability of mentally retarded students in learning English before and after the application of pictorial crossword puzzles. This study uses a research method in the form of a quantitative method using a Pre Experimental Design approach in the form of One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. For the data collection process using a test instrument in the form of questions. This research was conducted using the subject of students with mental retardation class VII SMPLB . The results showed that with the use of pictorial crossword puzzles, students' English reading skills increased based on the difference in scores obtained at the pretest and posttest. The value obtained during the posttest is greater than the value obtained at the pretest. The conclusion in this study is that the use of crossword puzzles has an influence in improving students' English reading skills. This can be seen through the results of the Wilcoxon test which shows that Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) < 0.05.

Abstract

Language disorders in deaf people include difficulties in phonological production, syntactic structure, and vocabulary mastery, which are rooted in auditory perception limitations. This study uses a literature review method to analyze various language learning approaches designed for deaf people. The results of the review indicate that deaf people often experience sound deviations such as insertion, omission, and substitution of vowels and consonants. In addition, they face difficulties in constructing simple and complex sentences due to limited exposure to spoken language patterns. Vocabulary mastery is also a major challenge due to minimal hearing experience, although visual-based learning media have proven effective in helping them understand and remember new words. The study also highlights the importance of pragmatic aspects in language, where deaf people often have difficulty adjusting language use to certain social contexts. Various learning methods, such as the use of visual media (BISINDO videos, magic trees), demonstration methods, and interactive learning models such as Make A Match, have been shown to improve the language skills of deaf people. In addition, family involvement and educator training are key elements in successful learning. In conclusion, effective learning interventions should include a holistic approach, which not only improves technical language skills, but also social skills. With innovative learning strategies and ongoing support from families, educators, and communities, deaf people have great potential to overcome their language barriers.

Abstract

Hypertension is one of the most common health problems found in the community and can lead to serious complications if not properly controlled. Low public knowledge regarding risk factors, symptoms, and prevention of hypertension can influence health behavior and compliance in monitoring blood pressure. This educational activity aimed to increase the knowledge of residents in RT 09 about hypertension and to identify their blood pressure status after measurements were taken. The study used a pre–post test design involving 21 participants. The results showed a significant improvement in knowledge, where before the education session, 52.4% of respondents were in the “fair” knowledge category and only 19% were in the “good” category. After the education, the percentage of respondents with “good” knowledge increased to 81%. In addition, blood pressure measurements indicated that 61.9% of residents were categorized as having hypertension, while 38.1% were not hypertensive. These findings suggest that health education is effective in improving community knowledge and that the prevalence of hypertension in the area is relatively high, indicating the need for continuous promotive and preventive efforts.

Abstract

Eco enzyme is a liquid organic fertilizer that is environmentally friendly and can be used as an alternative in the use of fertilizers to help the growth and yield of green mustard. Eco enzyme can increase the content of nutrients in the soil and help the process of breaking down nutrients so that they can be absorbed by plants. The use of eco enzyme alone is not enough to meet the needs of nutrients in mustard plants, so the addition of nutrients using NPK is needed. This study aims to determine the effect of green betel leaf eco enzyme with various doses on the growth and yield of green mustard. This research was conducted from May to July 2023 at the Research and Experimental Garden of the Faculty of Agriculture, Fisheries and Marine Affairs, University of Bangka Belitung. This study used a non-factorial group randomized design with 9 levels of treatment testing, namely: E0 (-) = Control (Without eco enzyme and NPK fertilizer), E0 (+) Control (NPK fertilizer), E1 = 2 ml/L eco enzime + NPK, E2 = 4 ml/L eco enzime + NPK, E3 = 6 ml/L eco enzime + NPK, E4 = 8 ml/L eco enzime + NPK, E5 = 10 ml/L eco enzime + NPK, and E6 = 12 ml/L eco enzime + NPK, E7 = 14 ml/L eco enzime + NPK. Each experimental unit was repeated as many as 4 replicates so that there were 36 experimental units. Data were analyzed using ANOVA followed by Duncan Multiple Test (DMRT) to determine differences in each treatment at a significant level of 5% and 1%. The provision of eco enzyme gave a significant effect on the parameters of plant height, leaf width, leaf length and had no effect on the parameters of the number of leaves, fresh weight of plants, and root length. There is no dose that gives the best results, but the E4 treatment on average gives the best results on the growth and yield of green mustard.

Abstract

Introduction : The implementation of the Covid 19 screening is very important to control the spread of the Corona Virus which is increasingly rampant. Screening is the first step that must be carried out on all suspected people including every hospital visitor. In principle, all visitors should be screened even if they are asymptomatic because some infected cases do not show any symptoms. The purpose of the study: to analyze the dominant factors that influence the implementation of Covid 19 screening at Tgk Chik Ditiro Sigli Hospital. The stages of this research are starting from the preparation, implementation, and analysis stages. The design used is a quantitative design with a causal association approach, which is to see a causal relationship. The method of data collection was done by distributing questionnaires and then analyzed using multiple linear regression statistical analysis. The next step is to present the data and draw conclusions. The results of this study were found that the factors of officers, patients, PPE, policies, and the environment affected the implementation of the Covid 19 screening with p-values of 0.001, 0.000, 0.002, 0.001, and 0.002, respectively. The most dominant factor influencing is the officer factor with the results of univariate analysis, namely Y = 19,877 + 0,091X1 + 0,045X2 + 0,080X3 + 0,043X4 + 0,072X5. This study concludes that the officer factor is the most dominant factor influencing the implementation of Covid 19 screening.

Abstract

The success of rice production is largely determined by the quality of the seeds and proper management during storage. The study aims to evaluate the influence of storage methods on the quality of local rice seeds in West Bangka, as well as the chemical content of 8-month storage seeds. The method used is an experiment with a Complete Random Design (CRD) design. The main treatment is the storage method of seedling tubs and panicles. Six local rice accessions in Bangka, namely Mukot, Jawa, Ungu, Pulut Hitam, Balok Merah, and Mayang Hutan, were used as research materials. The observed characteristics include germination power, maximum growth potential, germination rate, and proximate content in seeds. The results showed that the storage method in the nursery was able to maintain the characteristics of germination, moisture content, vigor index, growth synchronicity and dry weight of normal sprouts. The storage method of panicles is able to maintain the characteristics of the seeds, such as maximum growth potential, germination rate and growth speed. Jawa rice accession is the accession that is most able to maintain seed quality with germination power (72.33%) and has better characters in parameters such as maximum growth potential, growth synchronicity, and germination rate after storage. Chemical content analysis showed that seeds stored using the bean sprout method had a more stable and lower moisture content than storage in a nursery tub. The carbohydrate content of seeds stored by the malai method is higher, which supports the germination process that requires high metabolism.

Abstract

The success of rice production is partly determined by the quality of the seeds used. The main challenge in maintaining seed quality is proper management to ensure that seeds remain preserved during storage. This study aims to evaluate the effect of storage methods on the quality of local Bangka rice seeds, as well as the chemical composition of the seeds after being stored for 8 months. The research period is from February to December 2024, conducted at the Seed Laboratory and Plant Breeding of the Bangka Belitung University. The study uses an experimental design of a Completely Randomized Design in a split-plot pattern. The first factor consists of 6 accessions of local Bangka rice (Mukot, Jawa, Ungu, Pulut Hitam, Balok Merah, and Mayang Hutan). The second factor consists of 7 storage media (cans, 40-micron plastic, 120-micron plastic, plastic sacks, plastic jars, seed trays, and panicles). Each treatment was repeated 4 times. The results show that the Balok Merah accession exhibited the best performance, supported by the highest maximum growth potential, germination rate, vigor index, uniformity of growth, and normal seedling dry weight, along with more consistent moisture content. The panicle storage medium showed the best results in maintaining seed quality during storage, supported by the highest maximum growth potential and germination rate. The best treatment combination was the storage with panicles of the Jawa accession, supported by germination rate and the highest maximum growth potential. Proximate analysis indicated that the highest moisture content, ash content, and protein levels were found in Balok Merah. The highest fat content was in the Pulut Hitam accession, while the highest carbohydrate content was in the Mukot accession. There was a strong positive correlation between maximum growth potential and germination rate.
