Abstract

Intervertebral disk (IVD) degeneration (IDD) is a degenerative disease and often found in daily practice. The managements that were used so far are only symptomatic and have not been able to solve the diseasecompletely. The use of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) has been widely tested as a solution for theregeneration of IVD in IDD. Adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ASCs) are one of the sources ofMSCs which were widely studied as an alternative. One of the factors that can influence the efficiency andcapacity of ASCs in IDD cases is preconditioning. Generally, there were three pre-conditioning strategies ofASCs before being used as therapy, (1) modifying the environment, (2) using Growth Factors, Cytokines,Chemokines, Hormones, (3) using pharmacological and chemical agents. Preconditioning on ASCs canchange its function in various ways. We tried to link all these things together so that we could know the roleof pre-conditioning ASCs in the regeneration disk.

Abstract

Background: Leprosy is one of the neglected tropical disease caused by Mycobacterium leprae. Endemicareas are still found due to incapability of MDT regimen alone to eradicate leprosy. The good understandingof high-risk population characteristic to plan elimination strategy of leprosy is needed, especially invulnerable populations such as mothers and children population. This study aims to find association betweensocioeconomic factors and the incidence of leprosy in maternal and children leprosy in endemic areas. Methods: This is a case-control study in endemic areas in Tuban Regency, East Java Province, Indonesia. The obtained data was done using structured questionnaire and direct measurement. Chi-square, t-test/Mann-Whitney test was used to assess the association between socioeconomic factors and the incidence ofleprosy in maternal and children leprosy in endemic areas. Results: 22 pairs of cases and 57 pairs of controls were analyzed. This study found that education isassociated with the incidence of leprosy. Significant results were observed in father’s education (p value=0.023) with the incidence of maternal leprosy and mother’s education (p value= 0.003) education) andfather’s education (p value= 0.013) with the incidence of children leprosy. Family income also associatedwith the incidence of maternal (p value= 0.040) and children leprosy (p value= 0.036). Occupation is notassociated with the incidence of leprosy. Conclusion : The result of this study shows that education and family income are related with the incidenceof leprosy in both, mothers and children population.

Abstract

Data collection activities have a higher risk of missing data. Missing data may produce biased estimates and standard errors increased, so imputation method is needed. The purpose of this study was to investigate which imputation method is the most appropriate to use for handling missing data. The strategies evaluated include complete case analysis, Multivariate Imputation by Chained Equation (MICE), and Regression Imputation. This study was non-reactive study and used raw data RPJMN 2015 Survey from BKKBN East Java Province. There were three incomplete data sets were generated from a complete raw dataset with 5%, 10%, and 15% missing data. Incomplete data sets were made missing completely at random. Based on Friedman Test, both of imputation methods produced estimates which was no different with complete raw data set. Based on Mean Square Error analysis, MICE provided MSE values less and more stable than Regression Imputation in all scenarios. Conclusion: Multivariate Imputation by Chained Equation (MICE) was the most recommended method to use for handling missing data less than 15%. Keywords: Missing data, MICE, Regression imputation
