Abstract

Abstract

Background: There has been a steady rise in the number of teenagers who are reporting mental health issues. Empirical evidence confirms a significant increase in mental health services in Yogyakarta between 2018 and 2022. The efforts to prevent and control mental health issues are extensive and all-encompassing, with one approach being the early identification of mental health problems in teenagers. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to assess the mental health levels of teenagers during the COVID-19 epidemic. Methods: This study used a quantitative descriptive methodology, encompassing a sample of 64 adolescents residing in Warungboto Village, Yogyakarta City, aged between 15 and 24 years. The participants were chosen according to the prevalence of adolescents in the research area. The utilised instruments included the Depression Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21) and the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10), which were subjected to descriptive processing. Results: 56% of participants identified as male, while 61% fell within the age bracket of 19-24 years. Furthermore, a significant majority (97%) of respondents actively pursued education beyond the secondary level. The DASS-21 assessment revealed a highly pronounced level of anxiety (26.6%), a typical level of depression (35.9%), and a moderate degree of stress (18.8%). In addition, the PSS-10 findings indicated that 59% of adolescents encountered stress. Conclusion: Adolescents are a very susceptible demographic to mental health issues, particularly anxiety. Regular and timely screenings are necessary to prevent the progression of severity, especially in mild or moderate conditions.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) infection can cause changes in hematological parameters such as neutrophils, monocytes, and lymphocytes. The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio (MLR) are used as indicators of inflammation and immune response in infectious diseases, including TB. Diabetes mellitus (DM) as a comorbidity can exacerbate inflammation, potentially affecting NLR and MLR values in TB patients. This study aimed to determine the NLR and MLR values in patients with pulmonary TB and pulmonary TB with DM. This research used a quantitative observational design with a cross-sectional approach, involving 72 respondents from several primary health centers (Puskesmas) in Semarang City, divided into two groups of 36 individuals each. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. The results showed that the mean NLR value in pulmonary TB patients was 2.20, and in pulmonary TB with DM patients was 2.89, with a significant difference (p=0.002). Meanwhile, the mean MLR value in pulmonary TB patients was 0.34 and in pulmonary TB with DM patients was 0.33, with no significant difference (p=0.752). These findings indicate that NLR is more sensitive than MLR in reflecting the inflammatory status and DM complications in TB patients. NLR can be used as an additional marker in the clinical monitoring of TB patients, especially those with DM comorbidity.

Abstract

High total cholesterol levels cause various diseases, especially those related to the heart  and blood vessels. Total cholesterol test uses serum as a sample and must be analyzed within one hour after sampling. However, in the field sometimes there are inspection delays. Some studies have proven that serum stored for one week at a temperature of 4-8°C has different results in total cholesterol examination. For this reason, this study aims to determine the validity of total cholesterol examination using the CHOD-PAP method of serum samples stored for one week at a temperature of 4o-8oC. Validation test based on eight parameters, there are precision, accuracy, linearity, reportable range, limit detection, quantitation limit,  recovery, and interference. Only the recovery test was not accepted from eight parameters. Based on the Kruskal Wallis test, the sig value is 0.172 <0.05, it can be stated that there is no difference in serum storage time for one week at a temperature of 4-8℃ on total cholesterol levels using CHOD-PAP method.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is a disease caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis which mostly attacks the lungs. Based on several studies, it is stated that tuberculosis sufferers who take OAT for healing experience side effects in the form of lowering the platelet index due to reactions from drugs that lyse platelets. This research is a descriptive study with a cross sectional design. Research was conducted on 30 respondents who consumed OAT. The results of this study obtained results of more than 50% on one of the platelet indices, namely the PWD value, which was obtained with low results with a total of 19 patients (63.3%), while for other indices such as platelet counts there were 21 patients (70%) , MPV in 28 patients (93%) and PCT in 23 patients (77%) had normal results. The conclusion of this study is that platelet index examinations in TB patients tend to be low in MPV and PDW, while they show high results in PLT and PCT examinations.

Abstract

The use of new types of drugs in RO TB patients will cause disturbances in the body's electrolytes, especially potassium levels, as well as disturbances in urea levels caused by the excretion of urea that is retained in the body. Continuous increases in urea in the body result in the kidneys not being able to work optimally. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between potassium levels and urea levels on new types of drugs in RO TB patients. The research method used is analytical observational with a cross sectional approach. This research was conducted on 16 February – 16 March 2023 with research subjects being RO TB patients who received treatment with a new type of drug at the Lung Hospital dr. Ario Wirawan Salatiga as many as 21 respondents using a sampling technique that is the total population. Potassium levels were measured using the ISE (Ion Selective Electrode) method and urea levels used the enzymatic UV test method. The data was then processed using the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, then continued with prerequisite tests (crosstab test and homogeneity test) then continued with hypothesis testing, because my data scale was ratio and nominal, the alternative test used was the Chi-Square Test. The equipment test results obtained a homogeneity test with a P value of 0.698 and 0.610 (>0.05), meaning the data was homogeneous. The test results for the relationship between potassium and urea levels on new types of drugs for RO TB patients were Chi-Square hypothesis test results with a P value of 0.152 and 0.384 (> 0.05) means there is no relationship between potassium levels and urea levels on new types of drugs in RO TB patients. The results show that the TB drugs bedaquiline and delamanid do not cause kidney function disorders so that RO TB patients can consume these TB drugs regularly.

Abstract

Multi Drug Resistant Tuberculosis (MDR-TB) is a type of tuberculosis that is resistant to two first-line antituberculosis drugs (OAT), namely Isoniazid and Rifampicin. MDR-TB treatment involves a combination of first-line and second-line OAT, which is carried out over a long period of time. The prolonged use of these drugs can cause side effects that affect various organs of the body, especially the kidneys. One indication of impaired kidney function is an increase in blood levels of ureum, uric acid, creatinine and albumin. In addition, side effects of drugs such as Kanamycin, which is nephrotoxic, can cause accumulation in the proximal tubules of the kidneys, reduce the glomerular filtration rate, and impact creatinine levels. Another side effect that can arise during MDR-TB treatment is a decrease in appetite, which leads to decreased nutritional intake, reflected in low albumin levels. This study aims to describe the levels of ureum, uric acid, creatinine, and albumin in patients with MDR-TB undergoing treatment at Ario Wirawan Lung Hospital (RSPAW) Salatiga. This study is descriptive qualitative with a cross-sectional approach. Secondary data were collected from the medical record installation from January to December 2023. This study involved 28 respondents, of which 92.86% had normal ureum levels, 71.43% had normal uric acid levels, 96.43% had normal creatinine levels, and 78.57% had normal albumin levels. A small proportion of respondents had elevated ureum or uric acid levels, with some variation in the combination of abnormal creatinine and albumin levels. The conclusion of this study is that although there were patients with abnormal ureum, uric acid, creatinine, or albumin levels, MDR-TB treatment generally did not significantly affect ureum, uric acid, creatinine, and albumin levels in the majority of patients. However, regular monitoring of renal function and nutritional status is still required to detect and manage adverse effects that may arise during long-term treatment.
