Abstract

Gender inequality in domestic and emotional responsibilities remained strongly embedded in modern families. This study aimed to examine how domestic and emotional roles were represented and negotiated in dual-income families in Surabaya. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, involving five urban families selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected over three months through semi-structured interviews and participatory observation. The results indicated that domestic and emotional work was still dominated by women, with primary responsibilities largely assigned to them, while men’s involvement tended to be occasional and was socially perceived as voluntary. Subtle resistance strategies adopted by women, such as delaying housework or involving their sons, rarely led to sustained changes in the division of labor. The study concluded that efforts toward gender equality in the domestic sphere required gender-responsive policies, expanded paternity leave, and early gender equality education. These measures were essential to encourage men’s active participation in household labor and to foster more egalitarian family relationships.

Abstract

Abstract

Lanosterol is a phytosterol that is used by crustaceans to form animal steroid hormones that play a role in shrimp reproduction. This research aims to determine the response of ovary development in white shrimp parent after being given karamunting ethanol extract. This research was carried out in several stages: (1) injecting the white shrimp every 3 days at the base of the 5th leg for 15 days with variable control doses of 0 (C), 10 mg/kg BW (T1), 7.5 mg/kg BW (T2), 5 mg/kg BW (T3), 2 mg/kg BW (T4), and 1 mg/kg BW (T5); (2) isolation of white shrimp parent ovary; (3) measurement of progesterone levels in the ovary using the radioimmunoassay (RIA) method; (4) histological observation of white shrimp parent ovary; and (5) data analysis. The statistical results of progesterone level measurements showed that administration of karamunting ethanol extract at the end of maintenance resulted in a significant difference (P < 0.05). Histological observations of gonadal development in the control, T5, and T4 treatments showed that the cells developed into previtellogenic oocytes, whereas in treatments T1, T2, and T3, ovarian cells developed into endogenous vitellogenic oocytes, and only in T1 did ovarian cells develop into exogenous vitellogenic oocytes. Statistical results of oocyte size after administration of karamunting extract at the end of maintenance were significantly different (P < 0.05). The average oocyte size at the beginning of maintenance was 15.57 ± 3.15 μm, while in the control treatment it was 25.29 ± 2.69 μm, indicating that ovarian development occurred at the end of maintenance in both the control and treatment groups. Oocyte sizes in T1 (65.65 ± 2.64 μm), T2 (63.98 ± 3.06 μm), T3 (39.12 ± 6.01 μm), T4 (28.08 ± 0.84 μm), and T5 (27.65 ± 0.71 μm) were also greater than the oocyte size at the beginning of maintenance and in the control. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that the lanosterol content in karamunting plants can increase progesterone hormone levels, indicating an acceleration of gonadal maturity and enlargement of oocyte size in white shrimp broodstock.

Abstract

Women working as parking attendants represent an emerging gender dynamic within the informal employment sector. This study aims to explore the lived experiences of women working as parking attendants through a phenomenological approach. Drawing on Alfred Schutz’s phenomenological theory, particularly the concepts of because-motive and in-order-to motive, this study employs a qualitative research design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and literature review, while informants were selected using purposive sampling. The primary subject of this study was a female parking attendant working at Wonokromo Station, Surabaya. The findings indicate that women’s involvement in parking attendant work is driven by because-motives such as economic pressures within the household, limited educational background, the availability of informal job opportunities, and situational constraints. Meanwhile, their in-order-to motives reflect aspirations to leave this occupation and seek more secure and socially valued employment. Although this occupation provides a relatively sufficient income, the informants expressed a strong desire to transition to jobs that better align with their personal circumstances, long-term needs, and social expectations. This study contributes to discussions on gender, informal labor, and women’s agency by highlighting how economic necessity intersects with personal aspirations in shaping women’s participation in informal work.

Abstract

This research aims to develop an early detection system for heart rate anomalies in autistic children based on Heart Rate Variability (HRV) to prevent tantrum behavior that can endanger the child's physical and psychological health. Based on previous research, children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) show a significant increase in heart rate (HR), especially when experiencing stress or anxiety, with some cases reaching above 120 bpm. At the same time, control groups such as children with language disorders do not show a similar pattern. This leads to the hypothesis that physiological monitoring using non-invasive technologies, such as Photoplethysmography (PPG), can detect changes in HR before a tantrum occurs. The purpose of this study is to design a wearable device based on a pulse sensor and NodeMCU that can integrate HR in real-time, extract HRV features in the frequency domain (VLF, LF, HF, and LF/HF ratio), and classify normal and anomalous conditions using the Support Vector Machine (SVM) algorithm. The system is designed to notify parents or caregivers via a Telegram bot when HR exceeds 114 bpm. The research methodology was experimental, conducted on two subjects: a 7-year-old boy and a girl on the autism spectrum during learning, quiet, and tantrum activities. Results showed that HRV parameters increased significantly during the tantrum condition and even during learning, indicating activation of the sympathetic nervous system. The SVM classifier achieved 98.9% accuracy in the tantrum condition, 82% in the learning condition, but only 61.1% in the transition from quiet to tantrum. Overall, the system proved effective at detecting hyperactivity but still requires further development regarding data volume, subject variation, and improvements in accuracy during the transition phase for widespread implementation. Abstract

The quality of education, particularly in Islamic educational institutions in Indonesia, still faces challenges such as inefficient management and suboptimal integration of religious values. This study aims to analyze the implementation of Islamic-based performance management at MIS Cendekia Insani Al Washliyah, identifying its supporting and hindering factors. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach with a case study method, the research was conducted over six months. Data collection involved participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation with the principal, teachers, and educational staff. Data analysis followed the interactive model by Miles and Huberman. The findings reveal that the implementation of Islamic-based performance management has integrated values such as amanah (trustworthiness), ihsan (excellence), and tawakkal (reliance on God) into the daily work culture, driven by exemplary leadership, a religious organizational culture, and routine spiritual development programs. This contributes to improved educational quality, teacher discipline, and a conducive religious atmosphere. However, challenges include a lack of collective consistency in value internalization, a high administrative workload that can shift focus from quality, and the absence of explicit integration of spiritual values in formal evaluation and reward systems. The study suggests developing performance indicators based on Islamic values and a holistic reward system for optimal implementation.
