Abstract

The coal mining industry in South Kalimantan can cause heavy metal waste pollution in the aquatic environment if not managed wisely. Cobalt and mercury are heavy metals that can cause disruption of glucose homeostasis which can lead to diabetes mellitus. The toxicity of cobalt and mercury occurs as a result of interactions with proteins associated with diabetes mellitus, namely insulin receptors, PPARγ, protein kinase b and c-reactive protein. This study aims to determine the interaction of heavy metals cobalt and mercury on insulin receptors, PPARγ, protein kinase b and c-reactive protein with PDB ID: 2HR7, 1PRG, 3E87, 1GNH taken from the Protein Data Bank and using the molecular docking website MIB2: Metal Ion-Binding site prediction and modeling server. Docking results were visualized using the Chimera ver 1.16 application. Based on the docking results, it was found that the interaction between cobalt and mercury with insulin receptors, PPARγ, protein kinase b and c-reactive protein. Cobalt has the highest potential to bind to insulin receptors. While mercury has the highest potential to bind to protein kinase b. Mercury binds more strongly to insulin receptors, PPARγ, protein kinase b and c-reactive protein than cobalt. This interaction causes changes in protein conformation that have the potential to inactivate protein function.

Abstract

Background: Ironwood bark extract (Eusideroxylon zwageri) has antioxidant properties such as tannins, phenolics, flavonoids, saponins and alkonoids. Most compounds in the ironwood bark extract were phenolics (31.28 mg GAE/g), flavonoids (30.48 mg CE/g), and proanthocyanidins (183.30 mg PE/g). These can be used as alternative herbal medicines, but also has toxic effects, so a toxicity test is necessary. Toxicity tests can be seen through histopathological parameters based on glomerular hypertrophy and hydropic degeneration. Purpose: To determine the toxic effect of ironwood bark extract administration at doses of 1,250 mg/kg, 2,750 mg/kg, and 4,750 mg/kg orally on the kidneys of Wistar rats based on histopathological appearance of glomerular hypertrophy and hydropic degeneration. Methods: Pure experimental study with a posttest-only with control design, consisting of 4 groups with 3 treatment groups given ironwood bark extract at doses of 1,250 mg/kg, 2,750 mg/kg, and 4,750 mg/kg, and 1 control group was given distilled water 2x1 ml every 24 hours orally for 14 days. Results: In administration of ironwood bark extract at doses of 2,750 mg/kgBW and 4,750 mg/kgBW, glomerular diameter was found increased. The histopathological hydropic degeneration showed a score of 1 in all dose groups. The research data were analyzed using the One Way Anova and Kruskal Wallis tests. Both tests showed no significant differences between groups. Conclusion: There was no toxic effect of ironwood bark extract at doses of 1,250 mg/kg, 2,750 mg/kg, and 4,750 mg/kg on the kidneys of Wistar rats based on histopathological appearance of glomerular hypertrophy and hydropic degeneration.

Abstract

Prevention of Covid-19 is important for research in order to reduce positive cases that occur in Indonesia. One of the popular research is using analytical method. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between work activity behavior, government and community regulations and social distancing as a mediator in preventing an increase in Covid-19 cases in West Java. This research method uses path analysis model. Social distancing variables directly have a positive and significant impact on preventing positive cases of Covid-19, meaning that with social distancing the spread of the Covid-19 virus can be reduced. The effect of social distancing on the prevention of positive cases of Covid-19 is 87% and the remaining 13% is due to the influence of other factors. Based on the four variables used as predictors of the prevention of Covid-19 cases, the social distance variable is the strongest variable that affects the prevention of positive cases of Covid-19 compared to the other three variables. Social distancing is very important to reduce the spread of Covid-19 cases. The implication of this research shows that awareness of people's behavior by keeping a distance is very important to prevent the Covid-19 virus.

Abstract

The Ministry of Transportation’s Vocational Education Public Service Agency (BLU) has been underperforming in asset optimization, indicating inefficiencies in its asset management plan. This study critically examines existing asset management strategies and leadership effectiveness within the Ministry’s vocational education sector. Employing a phenomenological research approach, this investigation prioritizes a deep dove into asset management practices through semi-structured interviews and literature reviews. The findings highlight significant shortcomings in the BLU’s asset management and leadership, particularly in failing to meet its asset performance targets. These inadequacies are evaluated using ISO 55000 standards alongside human resources data, assessing five key areas: procurement and supply chain integration, innovative leadership, effective organizational structure, dynamic organizational culture, and human resource development. Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) analysis was used to prioritize issues under the Human Resources and Organization criteria. It identified asset management leadership as the most critical focus, with a weight of 0.40. This was followed by organizational culture at 0.23, competency management at 0.17, and both procurement and supply chain management and organizational structure at 0.10. The development of business units was highlighted as a priority over other strategies such as asset utilization and management collaboration. The regulatory framework guiding these strategies includes Minister of Finance Regulation 202/PMK.05/2022, which outlines four strategic asset utilization options. The analysis was proven to be consistent, with all priority weight matrices showing consistency ratios (CR) below 0.1, ensuring the reliability of the findings.

Abstract

Mangrove resource that people often visit, has characteristics that are quite vulnerable to environmental disturbance. Maroon Mangrove Edupark is a mangrove resource in Semarang, located close to Maroon beach and Ahmad Yani International Airport. The presence of mangroves in Maroon Mangrove Edupark, is expected to protect Maroon coastal area and the airport from the coastal disaster, as well as to make it as a new sustainable ecotourism site. This study assessed the benefits of mangrove resource in Maroon Mangrove Edupark according to visitor perception, and provide the economic valuation toward mangrove plantation in there. Economic valuation measurement employed was TCM (Travel Cost Method). The economic surplus value per individual per visit is Rp 173.010,00. The value indicates the benefits of environmental services greater than the cost incurred. Besides that, only 35,54% of mangrove forest has been utilized. For optimalizing the values, increasing the number of mangroves were planted along with maintenance should be done.
