Abstract

Background: As ACEIs are widely used and patients with cough often self-medicate at community pharmacies, pharmacists must be able to recognise ACEI-induced cough and refer patients appropriately. However, literature on pharmacists’ ability to manage ACEI-induced cough is limited. Objectives: This study aims to describe pharmacists' ability to recognise and manage a vignette case of ACEI-induced cough in self-medicating patients. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in community pharmacies across a metropolitan city in Indonesia. All pharmacies were visited and pharmacists who were available and willing to participate were interviewed by five trained data collectors. An open-ended questionnaire featuring a vignette of ACEI-induced cough was used. Pharmacists were asked to provide their recommendations for the case and explain their reasoning. Responses were analysed using content analysis, involving systematic coding and categorisation of the textual data to identify underlying patterns and themes. Results: Of 245 participating pharmacists, 189 (77%) could recognise that the cough was due to ACEI. However, only 101 of these 189 participants could provide an appropriate response (i.e., direct medical referral without recommending a product to treat the cough and/or changing or stopping the ACEI).  Conclusion: While many pharmacists may possess the necessary knowledge to recognise ACEI-induced cough in the case of a self-medicating patient, they may lack sufficient knowledge about the appropriate response of this problem. Educational intervention is needed to improve pharmacists’ knowledge and ability to manage an ACEI-induced cough case.

Abstract

Learning Mathematical communication is essential for early cognitive development, yet few studies have examined how multiple developmental factors influence this skill simultaneously. This study explores the extent to which conceptual understanding, motor skills, and learning enthusiasm affect mathematical communication in early childhood. A total of 159 children aged 4–6 years from six Early Childhood Education (ECE) institutions in Java and Bali participated in the study. An explanatory quantitative method was applied using a one-group pretest-posttest design. A Likert-scale questionnaire measured four latent variables: conceptual understanding, motor skills, learning enthusiasm, and mathematical communication. Data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with LISREL. Confirmatory Factor Analysis showed good model fit with all loading factors above 0.50 and construct reliability above 0.70. The results demonstrated that all three variables significantly influenced children's mathematical communication skills, with motor skills having the greatest impact. Additional qualitative data from teacher journals, observations, and interviews provided deeper insights into how movement, interaction, and motivation contribute to children’s ability to express mathematical ideas. This study underlines the importance of integrating cognitive, physical, and affective aspects in early math learning. The research is limited by its short duration and localized sample. Further studies should consider broader contexts and long-term implementation

Abstract

Background: Third-degree burns cause extensive tissue damage, prolonged inflammation, and delayed wound healing. Increased expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines, particularly interleukin-1β (IL-1β) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), may worsen tissue injury and impair repair. Modulating these mediators may improve healing outcomes in third-degree burns. Objective: To evaluate the effect of hypoxia-conditioned mesenchymal stem cell exosomes (HC-MSC-Exo) on IL-1β and TNF-α mRNA expression in a model of third-degree burns. Methods: An experimental post-test-only for control s study was conducted using thirty male Wistar rats (6–8 weeks; 200–250 g). Animals were randomly divided into five grups study: healthy control, burn + NaCl, burn + silver sulfadiazine, burn + HC-MSC-Exo 100 μg/mL, and burn + HC-MSC-Exo 200 μg/mL. Third-degree burns were induced using a 2 × 2 cm2 heated copper plate. The HC-MSC-Exo was administered subcutaneously around the wound. Wound evaluation was performed on days 0, 3, and 7. On day 7, burn tissue was collected for analysis of IL-1β and TNF-α mRNA expression. Results: Untreated burn wounds showed higher IL-1β and TNF-α mRNA expression than healthy controls. HC-MSC-Exo administration reduces the expression of both inflammatory markers, with the 200 μg/mL group showing the lowest levels. Macroscopic wound healing also improves in the HC-MSC-Exo, particularly in the 200 μg/mL , as indicated by smaller wound area and less visible necrotic tissue. Conclusion: HC-MSC-Exo reduces IL-1β and TNF-α mRNA expression and improves macroscopic wound healing in a model of third-degree burns, suggesting that HC-MSC-Exo may be a promising therapeutic approach for burn injury.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Integrated Islamic School (SIT) curriculum in fostering students’ Islamic character at SMAIT Al Uswah Tuban. It employs a qualitative approach using a case study design. Data were collected through observations, interviews with the principal, teachers, and students, as well as analysis of curriculum documents and instructional guidelines. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, verification, and triangulation to ensure the validity of the findings. The results indicate that curriculum planning is grounded in the principle of tawhid and the characteristics of the SIT curriculum, involving the participation of multiple stakeholders. The curriculum is implemented through the integration of the national curriculum, SIT graduate competency standards, and the pesantren curriculum, and is strengthened by flagship programs such as Qur’anic memorization (tahfidz), language development, and leadership training. Evaluation is conducted through observation, self-assessment, and the active involvement of teachers and parents. The implementation of the SIT curriculum contributes to the development of students’ Islamic character, particularly in the values of shidiq, amanah, tabligh, fathanah, and istiqamah. These character traits are cultivated through formal learning processes, non-formal activities, teacher role modeling, and school culture. However, several challenges were identified, including difficulties in aligning learning outcomes across multiple curricula, limited teacher readiness, misperceptions in practice, and inconsistencies in assessment. These findings present an effective model of Islamic character education at SMAIT Al Uswah Tuban. They not only reinforce theoretical perspectives on Islamic education and character formation within a tripartite curriculum integration framework but also provide practical contributions to curriculum implementation models in pesantren-based schools for similar institutions. Further research employing quantitative or comparative approaches is recommended to enhance the validity and generalizability of the findings.

Abstract

ABSTRACTBackground: Incised wounds from sharp objects disrupt skin function and risk infection. Healing involves cytokines like IL-1 and growth factors like PDGF. Celery leaf extract (Apium graveolens L.), rich in flavonoids, saponins, and tannins, shows anti-inflammatory and pro-angiogenic effects that may lower IL-1 and boost PDGF.Objective: To evaluate the effect of celery leaf extract cream on IL-1 levels and PDGF expression in male Wistar rats with incised wounds. Methods: This in vivo experimental study employed a post-test only control group design. Thirty male Wistar rats were divided into five groups: healthy control, negative control (cream base), positive control (10% povidone iodine), 2% celery extract cream, and 4% celery extract cream. Incised wounds were made on the rats’ backs, and the cream was applied once daily for 7 days. IL-1 levels were analyzed using ELISA, while PDGF expression was measured using qRT-PCR. Data were analyzed with the Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney tests (p<0.05).Results: The lowest mean IL-1 level in the treatment groups was found in the 4% celery extract cream group (5.80 ± 1.19 ng/mL), while the highest was in the povidone iodine group (6.77 ± 0.51 ng/mL). The Kruskal-Wallis test showed a significant difference among all groups (p=0.009). The highest mean PDGF expression was observed in the 2% celery extract cream group (3.10 ± 3.18), followed by povidone iodine (2.53 ± 4.37), whereas the 4% celery extract cream group had a value of 0.57 ± 0.66. However, the differences among groups were not statistically significant (p=0.279).Conclusion: Administration of celery leaf extract cream reduced IL-1 levels in the treatment groups; however, the increase in PDGF expression did not show significant differences among the Wistar rat incisional wound model groups.

Abstract

The limited understanding of prospective umrah pilgrims, particularly in Batu City, serves as the background of this community service activity. The understanding of prospective pilgrims should not only focus on technical aspects but also encompass deeper spiritual dimensions. Based on preliminary observations in Batu City, some participants were still primarily focused on procedural aspects without fully comprehending the spiritual meaning of the worship. Therefore, this activity aims to enhance participants’ understanding, improve the quality of worship, and strengthen spiritual awareness through educational mentoring in umrah rituals. The methods employed include material socialization, direct practice of manasik umrah, and intensive participatory mentoring. This activity involved partner groups of prospective umrah pilgrims from the “ESJE Group,” consisting of PT. Shahin Jaya and PT. My Hidayah. During the mentoring process, participants were not only trained in the proper procedures but were also encouraged to reflect on the spiritual values embedded in each stage of the worship. The results indicate an improvement in participants’ understanding of proper umrah practices in accordance with religious guidelines, as well as increased awareness of the importance of intention, devotion, and closeness to Allah. Participants’ enthusiasm was also evident through their active involvement in discussions and practical sessions. Thus, this mentoring activity has had a positive impact in preparing pilgrims more comprehensively, both in terms of knowledge and spiritual readiness.
