Abstract

Learning strategies and media are two essential and interrelated components within the learning system. A common problem that often arises is the mismatch between strategies and media with students’ characteristics and learning objectives. This study aims to analyze the role of learning strategies and media in supporting instruction as a unified system. The research method used is a literature study with a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected from various relevant literature sources and analyzed to describe the relationship between strategies, media, and other learning components. The results show that the appropriate and mutually supportive selection of learning strategies and media can enhance learning effectiveness, encourage active student participation, and strengthen the achievement of learning goals. Therefore, teachers need to consider strategies and media in an integrated manner in every stage of lesson planning.

Abstract

This study aimed to explore the effectiveness and challenges in integrating Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classrooms. CRT had been recognized as an effective approach to addressing the diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds of learners in EFL classrooms. However, integrating CRT strategies in language teaching remained a challenge due to curriculum constraints, teacher preparedness, and classroom dynamics. This study used a mixed-methods approach, applying both qualitative and quantitative methods with a case study design. The participants included EFL teachers and learners. Data were collected through Google Forms, semi-structured interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis related to teaching practices. This study involved 27 EFL students and 2 teachers using a mixed-methods approach, including pre- and post-tests, interviews, and observations. Quantitative results analyzed via paired-sample t-tests showed significant improvement (p = 0.001) in language proficiency after implementing CRT. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics to identify patterns regarding effectiveness and thematic analysis to explore the challenges of implementing CRT in EFL classrooms.

Abstract

The pedada fruit (Sonneratia alba), locally known as posi-posi, has potential as a raw material for herbal tea with various health benefits, such as lowering cholesterol, relieving gout, providing antioxidant effects, reducing gastric acidity, and supporting organ health. However, mangrove tea has not yet been widely marketed in North Maluku, and it is not available as a local tourism souvenir. This Community Service Program (PKM) aimed to: (i) increase partners’ knowledge of mangrove fruit as a business opportunity, (ii) apply appropriate technology in tea processing, and (iii) produce high-quality mangrove tea variants with market value. The implementation stages included: (1) knowledge delivery through presentations and discussions, (2) mangrove exploration along the Guraping tourism tracking route, and (3) demonstration of mangrove tea processing. The product was developed into five variants: TeOry, Tebal, TeGo, TTM, and PosiNaga. Each variant was packaged in tea bags and boxes, then evaluated using hedonic organoleptic testing based on color, aroma, taste, and texture. The results indicated that mangrove tea has promising potential as a distinctive tourism souvenir and as a new business opportunity for local communities.

Abstract
