Abstract

The removal of Co(II) ions using Fe-MCM-41 adsorbent was studied. Fe-MCM-41 was synthesized by the sonochemical method and then interacted with solutions containing Co(II) ions at various concentrations. The Langmuir equation indicated monolayer adsorption could be well-fitted for the adsorption isotherms. The maximum adsorption capacity of Co(II) ions on Fe-MCM-41 was 62.89 mg/g. Therefore, it could be conclude that the concentration of Co(II) ions in an aqueous solution can be reduced by using Fe-MCM-41 adsorbent.

Abstract

The development of new antibacterial agents is proposed to solve the problem of drug-resistant bacterial strains caused by antibiotic misuse. The aim of this study was to improve the antibacterial activity by modifying graphene oxide (GO) using ZnO/eugenol and analyzing the interaction computationally. The study was started with GO synthesis using the modified Hummer method, followed by the dispersion of ZnO/eugenol through the mechanochemical method to GO to form GO/ZnO/eugenol composite. The composite was characterized using XRD, FTIR, UV-vis, SEM, and TEM. Results showed that the sonochemical method successfully prepared the GO/ZnO/eugenol composite. This material has better antibacterial E. coli activity than GO, with an inhibition zone of 11.5 mm in diameter, while pure GO showed no inhibition zone. MIC test presented that GO/ZnO/eugenol composite with 25 mg/mL suspension effectively prevented bacterial colony growth, while GO could only inhibit with 50 mg/mL suspension. Additionally, computational analysis through molecular docking suggested that the GO/ZnO/eugenol mechanism of action involves interference with DNA replication by hydrogenously interacting with the active site of DNA gyrase of E. coli bacteria. These findings highlight the potential of GO/ZnO/eugenol as a promising antibacterial agent for combating drug-resistant bacterial strains.

Abstract

Recruitment is an important aspect of human resource management at a university, particularly at Makassar State University. Selection is a step in the recruitment process that determines whether prospective students who apply are a good fit for the program of study. The advancement of information systems facilitates the recruitment registration process. The decision support system is present to assist decision-makers in receiving appropriate recommendations for prospective teacher students who have been selected. This study employs the MAUT method's development, which is carried out in stages, hence the Multi-Level MAUT. Because assessment metrics are classified, we combine several MAUT methods to reach a final decision. The algorithm used produces good results, namely the ability to rank correctly based on stakeholder preferences.

Abstract

This study presents a systematic literature review (SLR) on students' scientific argumentation skills in chemistry education, focusing on practices, challenges, and potential solutions. Articles selected were sourced from the Scopus database using Publish or Perish (PoP) and published within the period of 2015-2024. Some of the notable issues identified in this review relate specifically to limited teacher preparation and low student engagement, which hinder the development of argumentation skills. Effective instructional models, strategies, and media that promote argument-driven learning are crucial according to these findings. Also, enhancing these specific skills requires targeted teacher training, curriculum integration of argumentative practices, and supportive classroom environments that cultivate inquiry-based learning and critical thinking. Generally, it sheds light on the importance of valid assessment tools to evaluate students' argumentation skills. Thus, strengthening these skills is essential for classroom members. Not only for acquiring a better understanding of chemical concepts but also for promoting scientific literacy as well as informed decision-making in broader societal contexts.
